Chapter 2477: Chapter 2541: Xu Zhenguo Is in Trouble

"Yingying, what happened?" As soon as Li Yifei saw Xu Yingying’s expression, he knew something was off.

"Mom just called saying Dad was hit by someone on the street and is now being taken to the hospital. She’s rushing over!" Xu Yingying said anxiously. With her practiced inner calm, she wouldn’t usually panic like this over just anything.

"Dad got hit?" Li Yifei’s heart jolted. He hurriedly said, "I’ll go back with you."

Xu Yingying had bought a house for her parents in Mile City, but the two elders still preferred going back to their own home. When they did come to Mile City, they stayed at Li Yifei’s house. During the few months Li Yifei had been practicing, the elders had visited twice, both times to see their grandson.

The child wasn’t Xu by name only; he was no different from their other grandson. The two elders genuinely loved this child. Moreover, because of the child’s birth, they weren’t in such a hurry about Xu Shanshan’s marriage anymore. Actually, the two weren’t fools; they’d noticed some clues long ago. But since things were already like this, and Li Yifei had proved himself somewhat, the elders didn’t point it out, choosing instead not to think about it.

It’s not about who hit him but how serious it is. Xu Yingying didn’t know the severity, so the two rushed to the Xu Family. Xu Zhenguo had been in fair health these past two years, not having to worry about his daughters anymore, he had more time for leisure activities — like strolling in the park or fishing. Or he’d travel with his wife for enjoyment.

Among Li Yifei’s many wives, Xu Zhenguo and his wife were the most comfortable. Li Yifei and Xu Yingying received news halfway there: Xu Zhenguo’s right leg was broken, but apart from that, he was okay. Of course, this was a significant incident, especially since the driver had fled after the accident.

Xu Yingying breathed a sigh of relief. With Li Yifei around, a broken leg wasn’t a worry, but fleeing the scene after causing an accident was quite terrible.

However, she didn’t say anything threatening. With Li Yifei around, these matters would naturally be handled well.

They arrived at the hospital, where initial treatment for Xu Zhenguo had been completed. Seeing his daughter and son-in-law return, Xu Zhenguo laughed brightly from his hospital bed. "Such a small matter, and you two came back? Hurry, sit down."

"Dad, why... how did you get hit?" Xu Yingying, eyes turning red, was heartbroken. Her father’s leg was broken, which was already bad enough. If... other accidents had happened, she might have cried her heart out.

Li Yifei walked over and said, "Dad, let me ease your pain first and see how we can treat it."

"It’s nothing, really. Back in my younger days, this would’ve been nothing." Xu Zhenguo said casually.

"Mom, what actually happened to Dad? Did you report it to the police?" Xu Yingying glared at her father and turned to her mother.

Mother Xu relaxed a bit, seeing them arrive. "Your dad was helping an old friend these past few days. Today, he went to buy something for him and got hit by a car on the way there!"

"It’s nothing serious. It should’ve been the green light, but this car suddenly darted out from the side. Seeing that it was going to hit a woman in front, I quickly pulled her away, but I couldn’t dodge and got hit myself." Seeing his daughter’s stern expression, Xu Zhenguo explained.

"Did the car run away?" Xu Yingying asked.

"The car didn’t run, but the driver did." Mother Xu said, "We reported it to the police. They should be investigating now. The car ended up hitting a tree by the road, but the people in the car ran away!"

"Dad, leave this to me. You just rest and heal. I’ll treat you a bit, and you’ll be good in a few days." After checking, Li Yifei realized that Xu Zhenguo’s leg was indeed broken, but it wasn’t too serious. The doctors had set the bone, and True Qi could mend it. However, he frowned at discovering problematic areas in Xu Zhenguo’s body.

They’d developed to a notable degree. While he hadn’t encountered it before, during his inspection, he immediately identified them as cancerous, and it had already spread to several areas.

"Dad, when did you and Mom last have a health checkup?"

"What’s wrong? Yifei, does your dad have a health issue?" Mother Xu asked sensitively.

Xu Yingying also looked over, knowing Li Yifei wouldn’t say this without reason. But Xu Zhenguo just shook his head and said, "Nothing’s wrong with my health. Don’t worry unnecessarily."

Li Yifei thought for a moment and decided to say it, "Dad has a few tumors inside. There’s a possibility it could be cancer, but it’s uncertain. It’s best to let the doctor check it out."

"What?" As soon as he said this, the faces of Mother and daughter turned pale. Although medicine has advanced, cancer remains a terminal illness, almost impossible to cure. Li Yifei mentioning potential cancer in Xu Zhenguo could only terrify them.

Xu Zhenguo was also stunned. It wasn’t that he doubted Li Yifei’s judgment but rather found it hard to believe he had cancer, so he shook his head and said, "Yifei, this is no joking matter."

"Dad, Mom, don’t worry now. I’m just diagnosing it myself. As for treatment, I believe I can handle it, so it’s not a big issue. But it’s best if you had checked it earlier; treatment is easier that way." Li Yifei quickly reassured them.

"Yifei, can you really treat it?" Mother Xu anxiously asked. Xu Yingying, realizing the numerous top experts in their family were virtually immune to diseases, and knowing True Qi’s many uses, felt more at ease.

"Yes, I can, although it’s a bit troublesome since there are many sites. But Mom, you guys really need to take care of your health in the future. We don’t have to worry about anything else now; just protect yourselves."

"We understand...sigh, it’s years of lifestyle habits, really. A hospital checkup doesn’t cost much; it was just neglected." Mother Xu sighed upon hearing this.

This was a shock indeed, but it also served as a reminder for Li Yifei. There are many relatives in the Li family, and quite a few direct ones. If anything happens, it would be a significant blow to the women. While birth, aging, sickness, and death are natural, it’s better to live longer. So, he would have the women encourage their families to get checkups. If something is found, Li Yifei can help with treatment. If nothing, they’ll feel relieved.

Only the Li family, with Li Yifei, Xu Shanshan, Jiang Ningxiang, and Su Lio, who recently became an Innate Expert, could handle such terminal illnesses. For ordinary people, no matter how much power or money they have, it’s all the same when facing a terminal illness.

Having received Li Yifei’s confirmation, Mother Xu still felt uneasy. She trusted him completely but still worried, intending to ask when the treatment would start when several police officers entered from outside.

"It was just you who got hit, right?" The leading officer approached directly.

"He’s my dad!" Xu Yingying stepped forward and asked, "Have you caught the perpetrator yet?"

"Perpetrator?" The officer frowned, glanced at his partner, shook his head, and said, "The case just started. We’re here to check things. Witnesses said you suddenly ran out while crossing the street, nearly taking a woman with you. Is this true?"

"You!" Hearing the officer’s version, Xu Zhenguo’s face changed. "How could it be me rushing out? It was that car suddenly coming out about to hit the woman. I rushed over to pull her away. Otherwise, it would’ve been her getting hit!"

The officer remained indifferent. "Don’t get agitated. We’re just gathering information. This is what a witness said. Of course, we need your account too."

Li Yifei noticed slight changes in the officer’s breathing and heartbeat as he spoke, and facial micro-expressions showed some inner tension, along with his obvious misrepresentation. So Li Yifei stepped forward, shielding Xu Yingying, and asked him coldly, "Did you check the scene?"

"Of course, we went as soon as we got the report," the officer replied.

"And what you just said is your investigation result?"

"That’s right," the officer said as his colleagues seemed reluctant to meet Li Yifei’s eyes.

Li Yifei smiled faintly and then added, "So you questioned the surrounding people, checked the cameras, and asked the perpetrator too?"

"You better stay out of this, we’re questioning the involved party. It’s best if you step aside," the officer impatiently said, reaching to push Li Yifei aside.

The push didn’t move Li Yifei. The officer’s face turned cold, "If you keep this up, I’ll charge you with obstructing justice."

"Are you really a policeman?" Li Yifei asked.

"Wearing the uniform means we don’t need to show ID," the officer retorted confidently.

Li Yifei shook his head, "I just asked if you verified with witnesses, cameras, and the perpetrator?"

"No, the surveillance had broken, the perpetrator... there’s no conclusion yet. As for the crowd, didn’t I tell you? Kid, I’m telling you for the last time, step back, or I’ll cuff you and take you in!"

"Heh." Li Yifei chuckled and nodded, turned back to Xu Zhenguo, and said, "Dad, rest well here. I’ll go sort this out."

Xu Yingying nodded, "Alright, be careful, dear."

"Don’t worry," Li Yifei gave her a reassuring glance, then grabbed the officer’s shirt, swiftly lifting him and walking out.
