Chapter 375: Chapter 183: This Is Her Man, The Man She Likes
Bi Yang was staring at her with a sinister smirk.
She ignored him completely, her expression placid as she said, "Director Wang, you were looking for me?"
"That’s right."
Director Wang smiled. "The main reason I called you in today is to discuss a work-related matter."
Normally, he wouldn’t go out of his way to target anyone. He even made it a point to build good relationships with promising interns.
What if one of them had a powerful backer who happened to be one of his own superiors?
These were all about cultivating hidden connections.
After all, just getting an internship here was a feat in itself. Who could get a foot in the door without some kind of connection?
That was why he usually stayed out of the permanent position reviews. Decisions were based on the evaluations from the direct supervisors in the interns’ respective departments.
Even if something went wrong, he wouldn’t be the one to take the fall.
This was a fundamental principle of personnel selection at the station.
Thus, whenever a large batch of interns was up for review, it was a free-for-all where everyone used their unique talents and connections to get ahead.
As Song Xiaowei’s direct supervisor, if her performance was genuinely poor and he didn’t approve of her, he could have simply vetoed her promotion on the evaluation form at the end of her internship.
Even if she had some minor connections, they wouldn’t have much ground to complain.
After all, for most interns—barring a select few—their connections were only good enough to get them in the door.
Whether they could stay on for good depended entirely on their performance during the internship period.
But Bi Yang had come to him for help in private time and time again, which meant there had to be another reason.
It meant that, on the matter of performance evaluation, he could no longer reject her. The data was solid; it couldn’t be faked.
Based on the rumors he’d heard about Bi Yang’s private conduct, Director Wang guessed he’d probably taken a fancy to the girl, made a move, got rejected, and was now throwing a fit.
Director Wang had some impressions of the young woman, Song Xiaowei, standing before him, and he had his own calculations.
First, she had been a late addition, getting in through some unknown connection after the initial recruitment.
Second, she was undeniably beautiful, a fact well known to many at the station.
Third, her connections couldn’t be that strong. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have been assigned to the poorly performing radio department.
So, after Bi Yang had come to him three consecutive times, Director Wang began to waver.
Between the intern and Bi Yang, he chose the more advantageous option for himself: Bi Yang, a tenured employee. He was willing to have Bi Yang owe him a favor.
They worked at the same station, after all. Who knew when he might need a favor from the man?
As for Bi Yang’s personal morals, Director Wang couldn’t care less. That was his private life and had nothing to do with work.
He had called Song Xiaowei in today to take care of this very matter.
To fire her before her internship was up.
Song Xiaowei smiled and asked, "So, Director Wang, what is this about?"
"Ah, Xiaosong, you’ve been interning with us for a while now."
Director Wang said in a fatherly tone, "Your performance has been excellent, but as you know, when we hire, we don’t just look at capability. We also consider personal character and integrity."
"Director Wang, just get straight to the point."
Song Xiaowei shot a glance at Bi Yang and said sarcastically, "Did my dear director here tell you some stories about me?"
"Song Xiaowei, as your direct supervisor, I have a responsibility to you, and I also have a responsibility to the station,"
Bi Yang sighed. "Your work was indeed excellent at first, and I had high hopes for you. But you’re arrogant, disrespectful to your superiors, and you frequently disobey orders. You don’t get along with your colleagues, either. That’s why I had no choice but to bring this to Director Wang’s attention ahead of time.
"After all, the radio department can no longer function properly because of you, and our ratings have plummeted."
"Director Bi, you’re a master at twisting the truth."
Song Xiaowei retorted, "After I joined, the ratings for the midnight music program literally doubled.
"For the past two days, you took me off my duties, the ratings dropped, and now you’re turning around and saying it’s my responsibility? You’re a truly wonderful leader."
"Director Wang, you see?"
Bi Yang said, "Look at her. Does she act like my subordinate? She acts more like she’s my boss."
"Xiaosong."
Director Wang’s expression soured. "Regardless of the circumstances, Director Bi is your superior. You need to watch your attitude. This kind of behavior is detrimental to teamwork."
"Director Wang."
Song Xiaowei shot back, "If you knew he was trying to use his authority to extort sexual favors from me—to sleep with me—do you think I’d have a good attitude toward him?"
Director Wang was speechless.
At her words, Bi Yang exploded, "Song Xiaowei, don’t you dare make false accusations! Watch what you say. You can’t just go around spouting nonsense like that.
"I have a spotless reputation! Everyone at the station knows that!"
...
Hearing this, the corner of Director Wang’s mouth twitched involuntarily.
But he still said, "Director Bi has been with the station for many years. We all know what kind of person he is, and it’s not what you’re describing. Perhaps there’s been some kind of misunderstanding.
"Furthermore, I didn’t call you here today to negotiate. I called you here to inform you of a decision.
"Based on the feedback from your direct supervisor, and after careful and thorough consideration, the station has decided to terminate..."
Director Wang hadn’t even gotten the word "you" out before his phone rang, interrupting him.
He glanced at the caller ID. It was Chief Editor Qin, who was also the Deputy Party Secretary.
Director Wang answered immediately. He walked off to the side, turning his back to the other two, and said with a laugh, "Chief Editor Qin."
"Director Wang, are you busy?"
"Not at all."
Director Wang replied, "Chief Editor Qin, is there something I can do for you?"
"It’s nothing major."
