Chapter 1197: Chapter 1196: Scientific Seminar
Jiang Cheng didn’t know what the director was thinking, but if he knew the director was secretly disparaging him like this, he would probably laugh at himself too. When he first became famous, there were countless benefits before him; he had stayed in rooms much better than this many times, but he wasn’t particularly concerned about living in such luxury.
Jiang Cheng lay comfortably on the bed in the room, wondering if tomorrow’s symposium would bring a surprise. He couldn’t shake the matter of Li Country from his mind and hadn’t figured out how to handle it yet.
Knock knock knock, "The sound of knocking rang out, "Scientist Lin, I forgot to give you your invitation." The director’s voice sounded.
Jiang Cheng got out of bed and opened the door. He saw the director holding a black-covered invitation, "Where did this come from?" Jiang Cheng asked.
Oh, this invitation? Every research institute has them. You must keep it well, or you won’t be able to attend tomorrow’s symposium." The director said.
I got it, thank you.
Jiang Cheng took the invitation and expressed his thanks.
No problem, no problem, it’s my duty. You rest well, and if you need anything, come find me next door." The director said and then walked to the room next door.
Jiang Cheng looked at the invitation in his hand. The cover was pure black, with no patterns. After opening it, he saw inside it read "The 10th Imperial Capital Science Symposium," "Cordially Inviting Mr. Jiang Cheng to the Symposium." Jiang Cheng hadn’t expected it to have his name on it; it seemed this symposium was highly valued by Kai Ao Country. But with his name on it, wouldn’t he have to prove his identity before entering? Jiang Cheng recalled he didn’t have an ID card. He could forge one, but to be safe, he decided to ask Zhao Shuai. Just as he was about to call Zhao Shuai to also ask how he was doing...
He heard a ringtone, and Jiang Cheng saw his newly bought phone was ringing. Taking a glance, he found it was a call from Zhao Shuai, and he immediately answered it.
Hello? Lin, how are you doing at the hotel? If you’re uncomfortable, I can come pick you up." Zhao Shuai said.
Pretty good, do you have an invitation?" Jiang Cheng asked.
Of course, who am I? Those kinds of things are easy to get." Zhao Shuai said boastfully.
Okay, I want to ask you how to get an ID card?" Jiang Cheng asked.
ID card? You don’t have one?" Zhao Shuai asked, confused.
Yeah, I don’t have one." Jiang Cheng said frankly, thinking that even if Zhao Shuai asked about his true identity now, he would honestly reveal it, as he recognized Zhao Shuai as a friend.
Oh, okay, I don’t think I’ve ever asked where you’re from. Let’s meet up; I’ll take you to a place where you can get an ID card." Zhao Shuai said.
Alright, let’s go now." Jiang Cheng replied.
Okay, I’ll drive over to pick you up. Which hotel are you at?" Zhao Shuai asked.
Jiang Cheng thought for a moment, recalling the hotel’s name seemed to be "Donnie Grand Hotel," "Donnie," Jiang Cheng said.
Donnie? Oh, I know, I’ll be there soon." Zhao Shuai said.
After hanging up, Jiang Cheng remembered he hadn’t showered or changed clothes for two days, so he went to take a shower and changed into a fresh set of clothes.
When Jiang Cheng arrived at the hotel entrance, he first saw a flashy red sports car, then Zhao Shuai in a red suit getting out of the car. Jiang Cheng suddenly felt like pretending not to know Zhao Shuai, "Lin, how’s my car? Pretty good, right? It’s new." Zhao Shuai raised his eyebrows, pointing at the car, talking to Jiang Cheng.
Jiang Cheng glanced at Zhao Shuai, not wanting to respond, and got into Zhao Shuai’s car instead. Zhao Shuai scratched his head, unsure what was wrong, and also got in, "Why aren’t you talking, Lin?" Zhao Shuai asked Jiang Cheng as he started the car.
Nothing, I just thought the car was too good and wanted to get in quickly to try it out." Jiang Cheng said, feeling if he commented on the car being gaudy, Zhao Shuai would definitely be relentless.
Well, aren’t you? How does it feel? Comfortable?" Zhao Shuai asked proudly, raising his eyebrows.
Yes, comfortable, but where are we going now?" Jiang Cheng asked.
To find a friend of mine, a very skilled friend, but I’m quite curious about where you’re from. Sometimes, if you didn’t look similar to us, speak our language, understand our culture, I’d really think you’re from outer space." Zhao Shuai said deeply, staring at Jiang Cheng.
You’re not serious, are you? I just never met someone as skilled as you, and it always feels like you’re so far away." Zhao Shuai said, looking at Jiang Cheng.
Then just consider me an outsider; anyway, I won’t harm Kai Ao Country. I’ll tell you my origins when the chance comes in the future." Jiang Cheng felt it wasn’t quite the right time to disclose his identity.
Okay, I definitely trust you; you’re definitely not a bad person. Let’s go." Zhao Shuai laughed, started the car, and drove ahead.
Jiang Cheng didn’t know whether to say Zhao Shuai was too genuine or naive, but he felt grateful for Zhao Shuai’s trust.
Jiang Cheng noticed Zhao Shuai maneuvering the car through several alleys, stopping in front of a tattoo shop called "Transform." "Let’s go in," Zhao Shuai led Jiang Cheng inside. As they pushed open the door, Jiang Cheng saw a woman sitting by the entrance. She looked like she was at most twenty years old, with a letter tattooed near her eye, adding some wildness to her delicate face. She dressed casually in a T-shirt and jeans, holding a carving knife while sculpting a piece of wood. Jiang Cheng glanced around the small shop, which had only two tattoo stations and a wall covered with tattoo designs.
The setup was rather unique.
Cloud, are you busy now?" Zhao Shuai walked over to the woman and asked. I’ve been quite idle, you know there’s not much business here." The woman’s voice, unexpectedly cute and pleasant, carried a languid tone.
Haha, alright, I brought a friend," Zhao Shuai pulled Jiang Cheng by his side, introducing him to Cloud.
Cloud raised her eyebrows, glanced at Jiang Cheng, "Him? Here for a tattoo?" Her tone was clearly skeptical,
No, help him get an ID card," Zhao Shuai said, adding we need it for something tomorrow.
Sure, it’s a minor task. What are you doing tomorrow?" Cloud put down the piece of wood and asked.
Science symposium, are you going?" Zhao Shuai asked.
I’m not interested in that, besides I’ve been at odds with my dad, I’d rather not see him," Cloud shrugged.
At this point, Jiang Cheng thought Zhao Shuai was quite reliable; even the forgery of IDs could be easily managed.
I think your dad would like to see you there," Zhao Shuai went over to pick up Cloud’s half-carved wood, "Is this a tank? You’re not making another model, are you?" Zhao Shuai asked.
No, I’m just casually carving," Cloud said, pulling out a small white device. "Here, input your name, age, and such." Cloud noted Jiang Cheng.
Jiang Cheng went over to examine the device, noticing its simple internal structure comprised mainly of a template, yet it had an incongruous-looking antenna. Jiang Cheng entered his basic information on the touchscreen next to the device. "All done?" Cloud asked.
