Chapter 1094: Chapter 1093: Traces

Even if the Mermaids have special intelligence, different from the other types of Mermaids they know, and can talk, but what’s more unbelievable is that they are speaking the universal language.

This, ah, is something from a long time ago," the Mermaid Leader laughed, "I remember the former leader mentioning it, that was when I was very young.

The Mermaid Leader recalled, "She said back then, this planet had lots of land, and it was only later that most areas were submerged by the sea. Occasionally, spaceships would pass by us.

The Mermaid Leader looked at Yanran and said, "Are you sure you want to continue listening? It’s a long story.

Yanran smiled and said, "There’s nothing else to do now, listening to a story sounds great.

Alright, then I’ll tell you." The Mermaid Leader said.

When the previous generation of Mermaid Leader was still a child, back then, there were still a lot of lands on the planet, and because it had a different scenery compared to other planets, it attracted many travelers here.

The Mermaids were very lucky; the travelers they met were quite kind, and none ever harmed them.

Instead, one or two travelers were enamored by their beauty and lived there permanently.

Those travelers loved them, and although nothing substantial could happen between them, it was pleasant to spend time together every day, exploring the sea.

In their interactions, those travelers discovered that although the Mermaids looked different from them, as the universe is gradually explored by humans, it is found that various planets are inhabited by creatures with varying physique but similarly high intelligence.

Though these bizarre and strange creatures seem like outsiders to humans, they stand atop the food chain on their home planets. Some of them may look fearsome but are not aggressive; instead, they are rather amiable.

As time goes on, intelligent creatures across planets reached a consensus, recognizing each other’s status, rather than using appearance to judge, treating each other as outsiders or even enemies.

In fact, from the viewpoint of those creatures, aren’t humans also the outsiders?

That’s one of the reasons why those travelers fell in love with the Mermaids.

During their interactions, the travelers discovered the Mermaids possessed intelligence on par with humans. According to the consensus among planets, they began to treat the Mermaids as equals.

Thus, they taught the Mermaids the universal language to facilitate communication.

This explains why the Mermaids can now communicate with Yanran using the universal language.

Yanran and Ba Lv could accept the Mermaid Leader’s explanation; after all, they lived in modern society and received a certain degree of education.

They understood, if beings were treated differently due to appearance, the universe wouldn’t be as peaceful and lively as it is today.

Through the conversation with the Mermaid Leader, Yanran, and the others finally understood why they spoke the universal language. Indeed, other humans had passed through here.

However, they were more interested in the love stories between those travelers and the Mermaids.

But, according to the Mermaid Leader, it was a love affair that ended without a resolution, leaving Yanran and Lvluo feeling somewhat regretful.

If only such love had a happy ending.

Shaowen always loved hearing moving love stories, and Yanran and Ba Lvluo were no exception.

This left the Mermaid Leader, who didn’t know what love was, slightly envious.

Time slipped away unnoticed amidst their conversations.

Lv gave the short sword in her hand to the Mermaid Leader. Although she liked the sword, she uses two knives, and this short sword was unsuitable.

The Mermaid Leader was quite surprised; she didn’t expect that Yanran and her friends wouldn’t like the gifts she gave them.

Noticing the disappointment on the Mermaid Leader’s face, Ba Lv quickly explained that it wasn’t that she didn’t like it, but it was wasteful for them to have such a short sword.

The Mermaid Leader was unmoved by their words and told them that the short sword was even more of a waste here, as none of them knew how to use such a weapon.

If worse comes to worst, the Mermaid Leader suggested to just treat it as a memento.

Since the conversation had reached such a point, to refuse further would make Yanran and the others seem petty, so they accepted the gift.

The Mermaid Leader was very pleased, and she said to Yanran and the others, "You have helped us Mermaids so selflessly, I don’t know how to thank you; it’s really unfair that we’ve not been able to repay you." Yanran and Ba Lvluo were also very happy to hear such heartfelt words from the Mermaid Leader.

Jiang Cheng slowly approached the island where the Sea Wolves resided. He suppressed his entire presence to avoid being noticed by the Sea Wolves. He knew these creatures had sharp senses, and although he wasn’t worried about their attacks, startling them into fleeing would thwart the purpose of his visit.

Based on Jiang Cheng’s observations, the number of Sea Wolves wasn’t that many, which matched his judgment. As large creatures, their numbers couldn’t be too many.

When Jiang Cheng neared the largest island with the most Sea Wolves, he discovered traces of human habitation.

Outside a cave, there were signs of fire having been burned. Although the marks were faint due to the wind and rain, they couldn’t escape Jiang Cheng’s keen eyes, making him curious if there was any relationship between these Sea Wolves and humans.

Jiang Cheng ventured into the cave, suspecting there might be secrets hidden within.

The cave was vast and deep, its blackness obscuring the interior situation.

This certainly posed no challenge to Jiang Cheng, who quickly discovered more traces of human life within. Deep within the cave, he even found a tattered item.

Jiang Cheng approached the spot, and not far from the tattered bag, he spotted a decaying body, which he immediately recognized as belonging to a human.

Near the decaying remains, Jiang Cheng found an equally damaged notebook.

Carefully, Jiang Cheng flipped through it, hoping to uncover some secrets from its contents.

The notebook’s contents recorded the events of a traveler, in universal language. To Jiang Cheng’s slight surprise, this traveler was a smuggler.

"We’re rich! We robbed a wealthy merchant group; who knew they had so much loot? Serves them right for being so greedy. We started running and finally escaped... it’s safe here. No sign of any humans..."
