Chapter 1087: Chapter 1086: Something Unusual

The mermaid hoped that Jiang Cheng and his companions could eliminate their enemies, those sea wolves, but in Jiang Cheng’s view, this was an unrealistic idea, and they simply couldn’t fulfill the mermaid’s wish.

"Well then, we will go back now," the mermaid said to them, "Thank you for teaching us just now. If there is anything you need us to do, please let us know, and we will repay you."

The mermaid said, her once beautiful face now restored to calmness.

Jiang Cheng knew that this was a sign of extreme numbness in their hearts after losing hope, rather than true calmness.

Although feeling regretful, he knew this was something they were incapable of doing.

The atmosphere suddenly became frozen.

"Where do you live?" Yanran couldn’t stand the silence and asked the mermaids.

"We live in a bay," answered the mermaid, "The bay is sufficient for the remaining members of our tribe to live in."

"Then why were you chased by those sea wolves today? Wouldn’t it be better to stay in the bay?" Ba Lv asked.

The mermaid smiled wryly, "The bay is too small for us, while outside is the vast ocean, which we long for."

"How about we protect you on your way home, okay?" Yanran offered, "At least, we can ensure your safe return home, which might be the only thing we can do for you."

Xuran felt very sad; though she didn’t belong to the same race as these mermaids, she deeply understood the pain of losing her people.

Actually, wasn’t she the only one who had such thoughts? Consider the master of creation who lived lonely for a long time in Delmar Town; when he discovered Yanran and realized he was not the only one existing in this world—along with Rory Busby, Fergus, and others—his mood must have been very excited as well.

The mermaid looked at them gratefully; the three people in front of them still wanted to help them, although they couldn’t fulfill her secret longing.

They accepted their goodwill.

The mermaids swam leisurely on the sea surface, while Jiang Cheng followed beside them for protection.

At that moment, Jiang Cheng was encased in a circular aura resembling a bubble, which was condensed from his powerful spiritual power.

This aura allowed him to walk freely on the water surface, while Yanran and Ba Lvluo piloted a ship flying overhead, as they didn’t possess such abilities.

Only the Flaming Firebird could accompany them freely.

This beautiful bird didn’t understand the plight of the mermaids; she only knew she didn’t have to return to that small ship, and even if she had to, she was still very happy. Jiang Cheng didn’t speak, looking at the vast ocean, lost in thought.

Suddenly, the Flaming Firebird flying ahead let out an angry cry, and along with it, a long flame spewed from her mouth towards a sea wolf creature below. It had never encountered such an enemy, and such an attack left it defenseless. Its fur was ignited by the flames, turning instantly into a fireball. Even submerged in water, it couldn’t escape the fate of being burned to death.

Fire that defies water, though Jiang Cheng had encountered such flames in the past, he saw for the first time a biological entity spewing such flames.

It seemed he might need to capture the Flaming Firebird for some research next time.

Watching the Flaming Firebird dancing proudly in the air having killed the enemy, Jiang Cheng thought to himself.

And further ahead, "Yanran and Ba Lvti" suddenly swooped down; Jiang Cheng personally saw an attack-type missile launched from their ship into the sea.

A loud explosion—smoke erupted, creating a massive water pillar.

Jiang Cheng knew they attacked because they detected sea wolves there.

As Jiang Cheng and his group gradually approached the mermaids’ habitat, they encountered more and more sea wolves along the way.

Although these mermaids had significant deterrence over sea wolves, under Yanran’s attacks, the sea wolves no longer surfaced but attacked the mermaids from underwater.

Their stealthy attack was no challenge to Jiang Cheng’s senses.

-

Although physically on the sea surface, his senses had penetrated the water. Whenever sea wolves surfaced from the ocean’s depths, preparing to attack the mermaids, Jiang Cheng could always detect them in advance.

Despite having a certain level of intelligence, it was obvious they couldn’t compare to human wisdom, making it easy for Jiang Cheng to handle.

Whenever he detected sea wolves, he initiated attacks against them.

His fingers constantly flicked, shooting spiritual energy-formed spikes at the sea wolves.

The nearly transparent spikes were hard to spot even with focused attention, much less in the water, especially since those sea wolves only possessed low intelligence.

Several sea wolves’ bodies floated up from beneath them; the blood they shed dyed the surrounding water bright red.

Finally sensing danger, the remaining sea wolves no longer clung to the mermaids, which were a significant deterrent to them, abandoning their targets and diving deep into the ocean, choosing to flee.

Not far ahead was the mermaids’ home.

The mermaids halted, ready to bid farewell to the kind extraterrestrial people who escorted them.

On the way home, they personally witnessed this person effortlessly killing sea wolves, enemies they couldn’t defeat, and the sheer number of sea wolves he killed left them astounded.

"Thank you, kind alien. We are safe now," the mermaid said, "Thank you for escorting us throughout the journey."

Jiang Cheng nodded; he wasn’t fond of pleasantries.

"Kind person, would you like to come to our habitat as a guest?" the mermaid invited him.

Jiang Cheng hesitated; at that moment, a voice echoed from nearby.

"Teacher."

Jiang Cheng looked up and saw Yanran and Ba Lvti waving to him from not far away.

Their ship was docked on an island nearby them.

Jiang Cheng realized his two female disciples hadn’t given up on helping the mermaids; they wanted to visit the site personally to see if they could find a solution.

Jiang Cheng and his group escorted the mermaids back to their habitat, while Yanran and Ba Lvti hadn’t completely abandoned the idea of helping them; they parked their ship to explore the mermaids’ habitat in person.

Strolling on the rocky island, Jiang Cheng observed the surroundings.

This bay wasn’t exactly small; given the number of mermaids, living here posed no issue. However, the mermaid was right—the vast ocean beyond beckoned, and who would want to live their whole life in such a small bay?
