Chapter 373: Police Station (2)
"I need you to do something for me, Gray."
"What is it?" Gray’s expression remained unchanged even with that. He raised a brow slightly, signaling for Alistair to continue speaking.
Alistair leaned forward. "There’s someone you need to meet," he said in a low voice that only he and the attorney could hear.
"..." Gray couldn’t say anything after that. His chest tightened, and he could only watch Alistair carefully.
Alistair’s eyes held his despite everything.
"He’s... my last straw in this matter," he continued. "The only one left who can still turn this around."
Gray’s gaze sharpened almost imperceptibly at that. He swallowed the lump on his throat, and asked, "Is that so?" he said calmly.
Alistair nodded at it.
"Yes. I can’t reach him anymore from here..." he added before lifting his cuffed hands slightly to show his current state to Gray. He lifted it for a moment before letting it fall back onto the table. "But you can."
Gray leaned back at that. He looked completely relaxed from the outside but his mind was already going in circles. "Who is he?" he asked.
Alistair hesitated for a brief second, but then he sighed.
"His name is Carrence Salcedo."
’Carrence...’ Gray muttered the name again on his mind.
"He doesn’t involve himself unless it’s absolutely necessary," Alistair continued. "And he doesn’t trust easily." A faint and almost bitter smile crossed his lips.
"But if you mention me... he’ll listen, and he’d definitely follow you."
"Where do I find him?" Gray tilted his head slightly and asked.
Alistair glanced down for a moment, as if organizing his thoughts. He looked to be in deep thought.
"There’s a private lounge that I gave him. He should be currently at that. It’s in a far place, and it’s heavily guarded." Alistair paused for a moment while Gray just looked at him.
"Just tell them you’re looking for him and say that it’s from me. They will let you in if you did that."
Gray slowly nodded at that.
"I understand," he muttered before letting out a deep sigh. "You’re putting a lot of faith in me, huh?"
"I don’t have a choice." Alistair let out a humorless chuckle. His gaze lifted again, locking onto Gray’s. "You know that you’re the only one I can trust right now."
Gray smiled and nodded at that.
"Of course, Alistair."
’Trust, huh?’ A faint and cold amusement flickered through his mind.
Despite the desperation of Alistair, Gray really had no intention of helping him. But still, that person must have been very important if he was his last straw.
Gray didn’t want to miss knowing someone important like that.
"Alright," The corner of Gray’s lips rose to an enthusiastic smile, "I’ll try to meet him."
Alistair’s shoulders relaxed slightly at that, as if a big weight on his side had been lifted.
"Good," he muttered. "I’m very thankful to you, Gray."
"But be careful," Alistair added quickly. "He’s not someone you can approach carelessly."
"I’ll handle it, okay?" Gray gave a small nod. "I’ll see what I can do," he said.
"Thank you," Alistair said, looking completely in debt to Gray now.
True to what he said, Gray was the only person Alistair could trust right now. He could only put his hopes on him. Gray was his only friend left.
For all the things they had done, Alistair believed he could still count on him.
Alistair’s expression shifted slightly as if he had just remembered something important. His eyes flickered toward the side, landing on his lawyer, who was quietly standing a few steps away the entire time.
"Right, Gray, there’s one more thing," he said.
Gray’s gaze returned to Alistair. However, Alistair didn’t look at him immediately. Instead, he gave a small nod toward his lawyer.
The lawyer understood the signal without needing more words.
He stepped forward, and from the inner pocket of his coat, he carefully pulled out a small object. It was a small key. He placed it gently on the table and slid it toward Gray.
Gray’s eyes dropped to the item. His forehead creased out of confusion.
"What is this?" he asked, the tone of his voice was laced with curiosity.
"That’s the key to a safe," Alistair quickly answered.
Gray’s fingers move at that. He is slowly picking the kwy up. The metal was cool against his skin.
"It’s a private safe," Alistair continued.
’What do you want me to do with it?" Gray turned the key slightly between his fingers, studying it.
"Go there," Alistair muttered. "The safe is one of the private things that I kept all these years. No one knows about it. Only you and my lawyer."
Gray lifted his gaze back to him.
"All my accounts have already been frozen," Alistair sighed. There was a faint tension slipping into his voice despite his attempt to stay composed. "I can’t move anything anymore."
"Good thing I’ve moved out most of my money. They are in that safe."
Gray slowly nodded at that. But inside, he was filled with amusement over the matter. Alistair was really smart to even think about this. He had to applaud him for it.
"Take 1 million and give it to Carrence when you meet him."
"Alright..." Gay nodded as if he would really do it.
"You can take another million for yourself."
Gray’s eyes widened. ’This man is really just giving me money?’
"For what?"
But Alistair shook his head as if he didn’t want to talk about it further.
"Its for you. While the rest, give it to Attorney Velasco. He’ll know what to do with it."
Velasco gave a small nod, confirming it without saying a word.
"You really prepared for everything, huh?" Gray said in amusement as he looked down at the key in his hand.
The safe must have a lot of money if Alistair was already talking about millions by now. That just put on a big curiosity for Gray. He wanted to see how much money Alistair had saved up.
Aside from that, he can’t let that money be used in a despicable manner. He had to take care of it.
"I’ll take care of it, then." Gray smiled sweetly at both Alistair and his lawyer.
"Thank you... Gray," he said quietly.
Gray only gave a small nod in response.
"Save your thank you for next time, Alistair.

A/N: Sorry for the lack of updates these past few days. I had to undergo surgery, and I couldn’t write with all the IV fluids inserted on my hand and stuff.
Now that I’m out of the hospital, normal updates will come back hopefully.
