Chapter 193: A Long Journey

No One’s POV

"Boss, are you doing okay?"

Dominic, who had just taken off his black mask and sat down on his chair, looked up at his assistant. He gave a quiet hum in response, his face completely tired. "Did you gather the personal information about that maid I asked for earlier?" he asked, his voice low.

"Yes, Boss, right here," the assistant replied, stepping forward. He gave the thin file over to the desk.

Dominic opened the folder and looked through the few pages inside. There really wasn’t much information written down in here. The records simply said she was rescued from a cruel slave market years ago and had worked for the family ever since. But as he turned the page, something specific caught his attention. It was the exact date. The date when she was first sold to the black market as a child was written in clear ink... July 19th.

The date seemed incredibly familiar to him.

Suddenly, his personal phone rang loudly on the desk, cutting through the quiet office. He looked down at the screen. The caller ID showed the person who was his only world left.

It was his grandma. He immediately picked it up, his cold expression softening just a bit.

"Oh, my little lion, how have you been?" her warm, sweet voice echoed from the speaker. "Has work been harsh on you lately? Just let me know, and I will personally take care of it for you."

Dominic let out a very small breath. "It is completely okay, Nonna. I can handle it."

"That is my good boy," she said softly. Then, she hesitated for a long moment over the line. "And... you know tomorrow is July 19th, so... I thought we should hold a small memorial service for the family members who passed away."

He hummed quietly, his heart tightening. July 19th. It was the exact, dark day he lost his entire family to this cold-blooded mafia world.

"Don’t worry, Nonna. I will definitely come," he replied.

"Okay, darling. I will be waiting for you," she said gently.

He cut the call, set the phone down, and slowly closed his eyes in the quiet room. The moment he did, those similar, freezing cold eyes from the room flashed vividly in front of him. The way she moved, the way she fought, and the way she stared right through him.

He opened his eyes, staring back down at the date on the file. He was absolutely sure now.

That dangerous assassin from the hotel lounge was the exact same girl who had followed him at the restaurant. And somehow, her past was tied to the darkest day of his life.

The drive back between Lily and Lucian was completely silent; no one spoke a single word.

The quiet atmosphere inside the vehicle was thick as the city lights passed by outside. Lucian kept his eyes fixed on the road ahead, but out of the corner of his eye, he suddenly noticed something. Lily’s hand was bleeding, dark drops slowly seeping through her skin from the intense hand-to-hand fight.

Without saying anything at first, he reached into his jacket pocket, pulled out his clean handkerchief, and handed it over to her.

She looked up at him, her dark eyes showing a rare hint of surprise under her mask.

Lucian instantly turned his head away, throwing the cloth directly onto her lap to avoid her gaze. "Don’t misunderstand me," he said quickly, his voice sharp and defensive. "I just don’t want your filthy blood to fall on the expensive leather seats of my car."

Lily nodded slowly, entirely used to his classic tsundere behavior. She picked up the handkerchief, carefully wiped the excess blood from her skin, and bound the cloth tightly around the small wound to stop the flow.

"Get it treated properly the moment we reach the mansion," Lucian muttered, clicking his tongue in irritation. "Or else father will blame me for causing an injury to his most valuable asset."

Lily didn’t say much in response. Her mind was far too busy thinking about that strange, masked man from the VIP lounge. Who exactly was he? And why did he possess the exact same mark on his hand as hers? The mystery consumed her thoughts for the rest of the ride.

No sooner had they finally reached the grand mansion than Lily was immediately summoned to the Master’s private office.

Mr. Viella looked up from his desk the moment she walked in. His cold eyes scanned her form. "Was the work successful?"

"Yes, Boss," she nodded simply, her voice steady. "The politician is dead."

The older man gave a low grunt of satisfaction. Then, he slowly slid a new set of color photos and a thick, heavy file across the wooden table toward her. "Good. Because I am sending you on a new mission immediately. You will be sent to Italy’s most dangerous, lawless territory. Your task is to infiltrate the rival syndicates, gather their innermost secrets, and dismantle them from the inside. You will stay there for nearly three years until the job is completely finished."

Lily looked at the files, then raised her gaze to look at him coldly. She did not touch the paperwork. "I do not remember ever surrendering my entire life and freedom to you, Mr. Viella," she said calmly, her voice entirely flat. "So, I refuse this mission."

"You truly think I do not have a proper deal to offer you?" Mr. Viella smirked, leaning back in his chair with a confident look. He knew exactly how to manipulate her.

"Speak," Lily commanded silently.

"Once you successfully finish this three-year mission and return," he explained, his eyes narrowing with a dark grin, "you will be completely free. Your contract with the Viella family will be destroyed. You will be free to do absolutely anything you want. Whether you want to stay by Viella’s side or work for anyone else in the world, it will be entirely up to you. And you will be paid enough wealth to last a lifetime."

Lily stared at the file. She knew the brutal reality of this assignment. No one had ever finished this specific mission, and no one had ever come back from that dangerous Italian territory alive. It was practically a death sentence.

But as she thought about the ultimate prize- being completely free to stay beside her beloved young lady forever without any chains- she knew she was willing to accept the risk.

"Fine," she said, finally reaching forward and taking the files into her hands. "But I want one more thing added to this deal."

"Name it," the Master replied.

"While I am absent for these three years, I want you to let my lady do absolutely anything she wants," Lily demanded firmly. "I do not care if she gets completely spoiled, breaks the rules, or ruins the household. I will personally handle her and fix everything the moment I am back. Do not touch her."

Mr. Viella let out a dark chuckle, thoroughly amused by her absolute devotion to his daughter. "Deal," he smirked.

The next early morning, long before the sun even came up to light the sky, Lily stood quietly by the edge of the bed. She looked down at her young lady one last time before heading out into the dark. A deep sadness washed over her.

This was either going to be the absolute last moment she would ever see her alive, or the last moment of Viella’s innocent childhood she would get to notice.

Lily was far from stupid. She knew very well that Mr. Viella had lied about the simple three-year timeline. A massive, dangerous mission like this would easily take her many more years to completely finish. But she was entirely willing to do it. By the time she finally returned to this mansion, her little lady would have already grown into a full, mature woman.

With one final, quiet breath, Lily turned around and left the room, stepping out into the cold morning air.

Reaching her destination took a few long hours. By the time the airplane landed and Lily walked out into the terminal, the sun was shining bright and hot in the sky.

As she was walking out of the busy airport, keeping her head low, something unexpected caught her eyes through the moving crowd. It was Dante Moretti. She froze instantly. What in the world was the dangerous new heir doing here at this exact time?

Lily quickly moved behind a large concrete pillar to hide her body from view. She watched him carefully and noticed an older lady who had probably come to pick him up. The lady was wearing a bright pink color outfit covered in feathers. Lily’s face stayed completely motionless as she judged the outfit.

"Questionable choices," Lily muttered quietly under her breath, turning her back to the scene. The Moretti family was not her main target for this specific mission, so she really did not care what they did.

She lifted her wrist and looked at the time on her watch. The clock was ticking. It was finally time for her official underground mission to begin. With steady steps, she soon left the airport and vanished into the city.

Meanwhile, across the city, inside the quiet, grand hall where the private memorial ceremony was being held for Dante’s dead family, the atmosphere was heavy and suffocating.

Dante and his nonna stayed calmly at the front of the room, their heads bowed low as they offered their silent prayers. Every single one of their security men stood in the back wearing pitch-black clothes, keeping an eye on the entrances. It was an intense, serious ceremony.

Everyone in this entire city knew this specific date, July 19th, and no one dared to cause trouble on this day.

Dante slowly opened his eyes and looked up at the large picture frame on the wall. He stared at the faded photograph of his dead parents, and then his eyes drifted to the image of the little girl standing right beside them in the photo. She had long, dark hair and the exact same freezing cold eyes as him.

She was his little sister. She was the one he never got to see grow up, the one he never got to love or protect, because he had been far too busy training to become the next boss of the family.

He slowly closed his eyes again, his jaw clenching tightly as a wave of cold fury washed over his chest. He made a silent promise to the shadows. He would take absolute revenge on every single person who had taken his family away from him on that bloody day years ago. He would not stop until they all bled.

And just like that, the long, brutal journey of revenge officially began.
