Chapter 18 - Female Dorm

'Fuck... this headache is still killing me...'

'Now that I'm alone... hopefully I don't get a roommate...'

I sat down on my dorm room's bed, recalling the events of the third wave while staring blankly at the white ceiling.

'Right before the third wave, I got another notification of 'the story breaking' right before the cadet counter went down one, meaning the person who got eliminated was a major character. Using the process of elimination of the people I saw during the third wave, the person who was eliminated was Damien Gray, Arthur Corvin's biggest rival and ally.'

"I got up to change into the black and yellow pajamas with moon phases for the design that the female dorms gave cadet as a welcome gift. They fit perfectly and were surprisingly comfortable. As I changed, my thoughts kept drifting back to the third wave.

'Even then, why the fuck was the Nightmare Guardian there? A calamity that was supposed to show up in Arthur Corvin's second year at Eden... It should have been the Baby Wyvern.'

'The only reason I even passed the entrance exam was out of sheer luck... I have to get stronger as soon as possible...'

I sighed to myself, then headed back to my bed after changing. The moment I lay down, I sank deep into the softness of the bed.

'I couldn't even use 'Story of the World' on them because the system was 'fixing the story.' Even worse, the Nightmare Guardian was targeting me or areas I was close to; I could barely dodge its attacks because my vision was blurred.'

'Those black sparks that appeared on the Nightmare Guardian and Eldrin are not from the original story yet seemed to be involved with the plot, always appearing before or after the 'the story is fixing itself' notification...'

'Something clearly doesn't want the story to change, but what? That bastard who said I should go give up and die, or someone else entirely...'

*click.*

My thoughts were suddenly disrupted by someone unlocking my dorm room door.

'Well, I probably jinxed myself...'

I sighed again as I looked in the direction of the door and saw a familiar dark gray-haired woman enter the room. I remembered seeing her at the third wave, where she had helped Arthur kill the Nightmare Guardian.

I quickly checked the V2 system to see if I was able to use it again. Noticing it was working, I rapidly scanned the woman.

'Kwon Nara?...'

My mind was suddenly filled with information about what had happened to her in the story.

'She's a minor character who is going to be killed by 'The Red Witch' and her hounds... during the first year.'

'Should I try saving her?'

'Her skills are pretty useful from what the story talks about her skills...'

Kwon Nara took off her shoes, placing them neatly next to mine. Then, she smiled at me before introducing herself, "Hey, so you must be my roommate, right? I'm Kwon Nara, and you are?... "

"Yoon Harin..."

'Well... I will have enough time to get to know her and decide whether to save her or not...'

Kwon Nara looked at me with curiosity, "Well then, Yoon Harin, I hope we become great friends later on." She stretched before yawning, "Anyways, I'll be right back, I wanna change out of this stuffy uniform—"

"Alright-"

Kwon Nara ran into the bathroom and came out in more casual clothing, a purple hoodie and black shorts.

*Poof!*

The moment she exited, she ran and jumped into the other bed in the room, which was closer to the balcony and windows on the right side.

She rolled over on the bed to face me. "So, Yoon Harin, are you dating anyone?"

'Eh-'

'What-'

I paused for a moment while looking at her. Kwon Nara stared at me awkwardly while scratching her cheek. "Sorry for the random question, I guess. I didn't know what to say, so I blurted something random out."

"Gotcha..."

Kwon Nara wrapped the blankets around herself. "Yoon Harin, I'm really curious about you because I've never had a roommate before in my entire life. So, wanna just chat until we fall asleep?"

'I mean... I don't have anything else to do-'

"Sure, why not? There's not much to do right now besides that anyway—"

Kwon Nara got comfortable in the bed as she looked at me. "What to talk about... Ah! How about family?"

'Well... I guess I could talk about my real family outside this story?'

"Uh... Sure, you start with yours, Kwon Nara..."

She nodded. "Let's see... My parents are divorced. I have a deadbeat father I don't even know. My mom is remarried and is a kind and gentle person who runs a pretty famous flower shop in Elysium. My younger stepsister is annoying sometimes, but I still love her. She just started high school and wants to become a doctor!"

'How can she say that with a big grin on her face?'

Kwon Nara looked back at me. "Yoon Harin, what about you? What's your family like?"

'What should I do?... Lie?... I think I'm going to tell her some things about my real family but keep out other things... yeah, that's good enough.'

I paused for a moment while thinking, then spoke up once I was ready. "My mom passed away when my brother and I were really young. I don't really remember her at all, but my dad says she was the best wife he could ever ask for..."

"Meanwhile, my brother was obsessed with stories when we were little and wanted to write stories when we grew up, and my dad..."

"I could say that they always cherished my brother and me equally. He tried his best to raise us by himself..."

A childhood memory surfaced in my mind as I spoke: '"Harin... Jiho... Don't worry about your papa, alright? Your old man is gonna give you everything, so don't worry about money, okay?"' I remembered that day that felt like a distant dream when my father spent every last bit of his cash on us, grinning like nothing else mattered.

Kwon Nara grinned even more after hearing me talk about my family. "I can tell you really care for your family, Yoon Harin!"

"Yeah... You're right."

I smiled gently at her, and we continued to chat with each other as the night went on until we both fell asleep at one point.
