Chapter 356: Chapter 356: Let’s Broaden Our Horizons—It’s No Big Deal
"Juliana, I’ll recover from my amnesia on my own. You don’t need to get a psychologist for me."
Juliana turned her head to look at him, her eyebrow slightly raised.
"You’ve misunderstood. I invited Dr. Monroe not to treat you. You have Iris Paxton, and I see you’re enjoying it, not even wanting to recover your memory."
Her gaze carried an almost cruel calmness.
"My husband was taken from me, and I’m deeply upset. I’m afraid of becoming depressed, so I need someone to help me move on sooner. Don’t you agree?"
Elias Langley was completely stunned.
He had considered that she would forcefully insist on him accepting treatment.
She might even have someone tie him down and force him to undergo psychological hypnosis.
But he never expected such an answer.
Juliana no longer looked at him, turning back to Miles Monroe, her face returning to its previous lightness.
"You’ll need to change your habit of being slick-tongued. Let’s go and talk in the side hall."
Then she instructed Raine Kane, "Tell Steward Fay that Dr. Monroe and I are discussing in the side hall, and not to let anyone disturb us."
"Yes!"
Raine Kane immediately went to find Steward Fay.
Miles Monroe turned around, lifting his arm, "Honored to serve Mrs. Langley."
Juliana laughed and took his arm, as they headed to the side hall together.
After a few steps, Juliana remembered something and asked, "Aren’t you going to greet your brother?"
Miles Monroe chuckled, "He doesn’t even remember me. What’s the point in saying hello? You know, my expertise isn’t really in psychology, but rather in undermining."
"Especially undermining... a brother’s choices," he added.
Juliana laughed happily again at his words.
Elias stood where he was, feeling a tightness in his chest that caused pain.
A vague irritability and deeper anxiety spread within his chest, making it hard for him to breathe.
Side hall.
Miles Monroe placed his hand on Juliana’s shoulder.
"If you want to win him back, you’ll need to follow my approach. Moreover, there’s a benefit for you. You’ll be positioned with full control over choices. If someday you truly feel utterly disappointed in this relationship, the choices before you will be real and attainable. At that point, whether to stay or leave, the decision is entirely yours. Regardless of the outcome, you won’t be the one losing."
Juliana used two fingers to remove his hand from her shoulder.
Miles Monroe deliberately furrowed his brow, "Don’t be like that. You need to let go. Like just now, I simply acted a bit familiar, and you saw his reaction. People’s instincts and possessiveness often only activate when they feel a threat. You need to continuously make him ’feel’ this threat, which will help him regain his memory."
Juliana felt that everything he said made a lot of sense, but her gaze bore a touch of scrutiny.
"Miles Monroe, you’re going in circles... Don’t tell me you have a personal agenda?"
She hadn’t forgotten, a long time ago, when her relationship with Elias Langley was still uncertain, Miles Monroe had once jokingly half-seriously said: "Elias Langley is too stiff, and you’re too straightforward. You two together have no fun, why not try with me."
At that time, Juliana felt she wasn’t familiar enough with him to joke like that, so she hadn’t responded to his words.
And now, faced with her interrogation, Miles Monroe not only wasn’t angry, but instead gave a sly smile.
"Of course, I’m one of your choices too, and..."
He looked at her with a very open gaze.
"With your charm, there should never be only one option. Since he’s playing around with that woman, you should show him what truly advanced ’choices’ are. If he’s being ambiguous, you should openly ’socialize’, with the men around you being top tier, making him furious. Of course..."
He ran a hand through his hair.
"There’s no man better than me. Really, in every aspect. Even if you want to ’turn fiction into reality’, I could reluctantly play along. Let’s expand the scope, it’s not a big deal."
Juliana was drinking jujube longan tea, and his words almost made her choke.
She glared at him fiercely, yet couldn’t suppress her lips from curling upward.
"You’re so full of yourself!"
Miles Monroe laughed heartily, stepping back to maintain the proper distance between friends.
Juliana’s initially suppressed emotions became much lighter because of this conversation.
This was exactly what she and her unborn baby needed.
Miles Monroe had an appointment with a client, so he took his leave shortly after.
Juliana walked out of the side hall with him.
As soon as she opened the door, she saw Elias Langley standing a few steps away by the railing, just withdrawing from his eavesdropping pose.
Suddenly, the gazes of the three collided, and the air froze for a moment.
Elias quickly tightened his face, returning to his customary stern demeanor.
Miles Monroe frowned; lost Elias Langley was behaving like a jealous wife?
Retracting his scrutinizing gaze, he turned it towards her, and a playful look swiftly appeared, his tone dripping with alluring charm.
"Juliana, if you’re ever unhappy, call me anytime. I’m on standby 24/7 for you."
By now, Juliana’s mood had brightened considerably, and she nodded with a smile.
"Got it. Be careful on the road."
"I’ll definitely keep your advice in mind."
Elias couldn’t listen any longer, so he stepped forward, interrupting their conversation, and looked at Miles Monroe.
"How much?"
Miles Monroe was stunned for a moment, "What?"
Elias spoke in a cold, hard tone, "How much do you charge for thirty-six minutes of psychological consultation with her?"
Heh, weren’t you planning to marry someone else?
What’s with the minute-to-minute intensity?
Miles Monroe, wearing a look of sudden realization, replied with righteousness, "Providing emotional value to your wife – no charge. Even if she were to sleep with me, I’d consider it volunteer work."
Elias was caught off guard by his shameless words, his typically stern face almost turning red in the moment.
He couldn’t understand why he was reacting this way, but Miles Monroe made him extremely uncomfortable.
Juliana lightly pushed Miles Monroe, "Stop being cheeky here, just go."
The two descended the stone steps in front of the side hall together.
Juliana’s foot slipped and she suddenly lurched forward.
Seeing her about to fall down the steps, Miles Monroe’s hand had just raised when an arm swiftly supported her waist, restoring her balance.
The motion was so fluid it was as if practiced countless times, even Elias himself was momentarily taken aback.
In his embrace, Juliana lifted her eyes to meet his for two straight seconds.
The fleeting sense of bewilderment and tenderness quickly faded as she lowered her head, subtly withdrawing from the circle of his arm and politely said, "Thank you."
His palm felt suddenly empty and the comforting fragrance around his nose quickly dissipated.
Elias withdrew his hand and stiffly replied, "...You’re welcome."
Miles Monroe shot a glance at the two, a slight smile on his lips, and then turned to leave.
Juliana looked at Elias, her expression candid.
"Your sudden amnesia indeed caught me off guard. Honestly speaking, I don’t really want to let go of your hand to fulfill your promise to Iris Paxton. But the current situation is that you need time to clear your thoughts, within the void, to discern who’s truly worth choosing. Similarly, I need to reassess and evaluate whether the post-amnesia you are still worthy of trusting my lifelong commitment to."
As she spoke, a slight heaviness came from her lower abdomen.
Upon leaving the hospital room, the doctor advised her to rest in bed for these days.
Yet only a few hours out, it seemed she hadn’t even had the time to sit quietly for a while.
Juliana instinctively placed a hand over her lower abdomen, as if silently communicating to the child within her: hang in there a little longer.
"So," she emphasized, "I suggest we give each other three months. If after three months, we both feel it’s not right to be together, we’ll divorce, and I’ll completely withdraw from your world."
