Chapter 273: Plan for today

Amanda couldn’t help but worry about Kyle. Never before had he slept this long. When she called Adam to check on him, he told her Kyle had still been asleep when he left.

The way Adam described him only deepened her concern. Kyle had been sleeping so deeply that he hadn’t stirred at all. Thankfully, even in his sleep, he had mumbled that he was fine, which was the only reason Adam had decided to leave.

She figured he must have stayed up late the previous night. Under normal circumstances, she would have let him rest as much as he needed.

But tomorrow, he would be leaving for the academy.

They had promised to spend today together.

And so, despite knowing he might still be asleep, Amanda shamelessly decided to invite herself over.

Ting

After passing through the checkpoint, she steered her car into the underground parking garage and drove toward her usual spot.

"Ah," Her brows elevated at the sight.

A familiar figure was already standing there, casually waving at her.

Amanda quickly parked the car.

Before she could even unbuckle her seatbelt, the door was pulled open from the outside.

A warm smile blossomed across her face as she looked up at him.

"You saw my message?" she asked, her voice bright with surprise. "How long have you been waiting for me?"

Kyle offered her a faint, apologetic smile.

"Yeah. And I’m sorry for forgetting about our date today. Something came up last night, and I ended up staying awake until pretty late."

He took her handbag from her shoulder, intertwined his fingers with hers, and led her toward the elevator.

"So you felt guilty, and that’s why you were waiting for me down there?"

Kyle let out an exaggerated groan.

"How rude of you to interpret it like that. Haven’t I waited for you before? Besides, you’re not the only one who was looking forward to today."

There wasn’t the slightest hint of exaggeration in his voice. He simply stated what he genuinely felt as he pressed the elevator button.

"I’m sorry about that," Amanda replied with a cheerful smile that carried not a shred of guilt.

She naturally leaned against his shoulder.

"Did you eat anything? I was thinking of bringing you some porridge, but I wanted to check on you first."

"Yeah, I made something." Kyle nodded. "And...sorry again for making you worry."

The elevator soon reached his floor.

As the doors slid open, Kyle let Amanda unlock the apartment while he quietly watched her from behind.

"Hmm?" His gaze lingered on her for a moment. "Did you cut your hair?"

Amanda immediately turned around, her eyes sparkling.

"Wah... you noticed?" she asked happily. "It’s only a few inches. I was thinking of changing the style completely, but I decided against it."

"Hmm? Why?" Kyle asked as he stepped inside after her. "If you want short hair, you should go for it." He smiled gently. "I’m sure it’d suit you too."

"Hmm... but you said you liked my long hair," Amanda whined, curling a lock of her hair around her finger as she looked genuinely conflicted.

Kyle smiled.

"And I know my preference would change with whatever style you choose. So don’t hesitate to try something different. I’ll love Amanda all the same."

A soft giggle escaped her lips.

The faint blush spreading across her cheeks made it obvious just how happy those words had made her.

"Actually..." she admitted shyly, "I noticed you liked that female agent from the zombie movie we watched last time. So I thought I’d get a hairstyle similar to hers."

Kyle simply shrugged.

"It wasn’t her. It was her gun that caught my attention." He walked into the kitchen and opened the refrigerator before pouring her a glass of water. "It was pretty funny. They gave her an assault rifle that doesn’t even exist in real life. It’s from a game that’s become really popular recently."

"Is that so?" Amanda blinked. Then a teasing smile slowly spread across her face.

"Then... I guess I should cancel my plan to cosplay that woman for you."

Kyle froze.

He slowly looked up from behind the refrigerator door.

"Wait... you were actually planning to?"

"Mm-hmm." Amanda nodded, her eyes narrowing into playful crescents. "I already ordered the outfit and everything."

Kyle scratched the back of his head, trying to hide the sudden embarrassment creeping onto his face.

"Well..." he admitted after a brief pause, "I honestly wouldn’t mind seeing you in that short red dress."

His gaze drifted toward her for a moment before he added with complete sincerity,

"I think you’d look really good in it."

Amanda couldn’t hold back a chuckle.

"I knew you liked that woman."

Kyle grumbled under his breath.

"Not like that. But yeah... she was attractive," he admitted honestly.

"Hmm~" Amanda hummed mischievously. "Well, unlike that character, you get to see what’s beneath the dress with me."

As she spoke, she deliberately leaned over the table, casting him a playful glance and deliberately flashing him her deep valley.

Kyle stared at her for a second before letting out a helpless sigh.

"Careful, babe. I’ve had plenty of sleep and I’m full of energy. If you keep provoking me, you’ll end up sleeping until tomorrow afternoon."

Amanda’s face instantly turned a deeper shade of crimson.

"You’re so easy to tease..." she mumbled with an amused smile. "Hmm~ but I already have something planned for us today. So no naughty thoughts. At least until the evening."

Kyle raised an eyebrow.

"And what exactly is this mysterious plan?"

Amanda only smiled and shook her head.

"Be patient."

Just then, her phone vibrated.

She glanced at the screen, and her eyes lit up.

"Ah! It’s downstairs."

Curious, Kyle pulled out his own phone and opened the building’s security camera feed.

A delivery man was standing at the entrance, struggling to balance a large cardboard box.

Kyle zoomed in.

The familiar logo printed across the side immediately caught his eye.

He blinked.

"A gaming console?"

Amanda nodded enthusiastically.

"Yup!" she beamed. "Today’s going to be an all-out gaming marathon."

She pointed at him with a confident grin.

"So you’d better prepare yourself to lose, baby. Because I’m absolutely not going easy on you today."

....

At that very moment, far away from the city, a decision that would alter countless lives was finally made.

"Are you certain?" one voice asked cautiously. "Won’t this upset quite a few people?"

"A few people whose opinions carry the least significance compared to what he can offer."

The authoritative reply shattered every trace of hesitation.

"The evidence is before us. We no longer need anyone’s permission."

A brief silence followed.

"Proceed as planned."

The other person lowered his head, offering no further objections.

The debate that had dragged on for so long had finally reached its conclusion.

It was hardly surprising.

After all, the Defense Chief of the Paranormal Suppression Corps had personally stepped in.

"Very well," the other person said at last, straightening his posture.

"We’ll move forward with the plan... and hope for the best."
