Chapter 253: Son?

Maybe it was because they had talked for so long that, when Hades took it upon himself to see him off, Kyle didn’t feel particularly nervous.

Naturally, he knew the older man had accompanied him because there was something he wanted to say. Hades didn’t keep him waiting for long.

"Kyle," he began, "there’s a reason we only had one child, even though people from named clans usually prefer to have several, so they have more than one option when it comes to passing down authority."

"And that reason is my wife’s fear." He let out a quiet sigh before continuing. "She was the target of favoritism her entire life. Her younger sister was always ignored while Martha received all the praise. It created friction between them. That’s why Martha never wanted the same thing to happen to her own children. From her mother’s perspective, she hadn’t done anything wrong."

Kyle nodded in understanding.

He knew that feeling all too well.

Being constantly compared to his older brother had made him resent Blake for a long time. But as he grew older, he realized something. While he had always viewed Blake as a rival, Blake had only been searching for his younger brother.

Sibling rivalry, especially within prestigious families, was neither unusual nor rare.

"That’s why we always intended to have just one child." Hades glanced at Kyle before continuing. "While I’m proud of how responsibly Amanda has grown up, I sometimes worry that, as our only princess, we’ve spoiled her far more than we should have. And when she told me how many things you gave up just to make her feel more comfortable around you... I started worrying that one day, you might come to resent Amanda."

Kyle blinked in surprise.

"Amanda told you that?" His voice carried genuine disbelief. He had never looked at it that way. "Sir, I think you’ve misunderstood something. Amanda never forced me to give up anything. The few changes I made in my life were choices I made so we could be more compatible."

"But that doesn’t change the fact that Amanda has always been the one making demands in this relationship, does it?" Hades asked.

Kyle let out a small sigh.

"Sir, I won’t deny that Amanda can be quite stubborn at times. But not once have I found her annoying or thought she was asking for too much. She’s never made me regret falling in love with her."

His words carried unwavering conviction. He wanted the man standing before him to understand exactly how he felt.

It seemed Amanda had confided her regrets to her father, and those regrets had become the source of Hades’ worries about what the future held for the two of them.

The two men stopped just before the main gate.

Hades broke the silence first.

"You mean a great deal to her, Kyle. That’s why I don’t want anything to become the reason you two drift apart. That’s why I told you all this." A faint, apologetic smile appeared on his face. "I hope you don’t mind."

Kyle shook his head.

"Not at all, sir. It only shows how much you care about her happiness." He lowered his head slightly before continuing, "If anything, I’m the one who should apologize for introducing myself so late."

Hades chuckled and patted him on the shoulder.

"It’s alright, young man. I understand how difficult things must have been for you."

His hand gave Kyle’s shoulder a reassuring squeeze.

"Just take care of her. That’s all I need to know, Kyle."

Without a moment’s hesitation, Kyle met his gaze.

"I promise you that, sir."

...

[7.38 PM]

Kyle returned home after spending some time wandering through the city.

He was in such a good mood that he completely lost track of time, missing his train in the process. Forced to take a bus instead, he had to make a long detour, stretching what should have been a one-hour trip into nearly two and a half.

Well, it wasn’t a big deal.

The moment he stepped off the bus, a familiar tingling sensation spread across his forehead.

Only then did he realize he hadn’t used his Blessing since that day.

After settling onto his bed, he raised a hand to his forehead.

The intricate golden pattern was still there.

He had been too busy yesterday to think about it, but now his curiosity had gotten the better of him.

He opened his status.

[Items:

Aquila of Achilles

Red Elixir ×1

Lantern of Life

Birch of Greywing]

As he looked through the list of items available in his Blessed state, something immediately caught his attention.

A new item.

"Is it an armament?" he wondered aloud.

The system answered almost immediately.

[Stand under the moonlight to materialize it, Host.]

Kyle nodded before heading toward the small balcony connected to the main hall.

The moment he slid open the glass door and stepped outside, silver moonlight poured over his body.

The transformation was instantaneous.

"Haah..."

A contented sigh escaped his lips.

"I could never get tired of this."

It felt as though he had submerged himself in a perfectly warm bath, one that soothed not only his aching muscles but his very soul.

The sensation was indescribably comforting.

He remained there for a while, silently basking beneath the moon, before finally opening his eyes.

His gaze drifted to his empty left hand.

Tiny motes of golden light gathered in his palm.

They rapidly condensed, weaving themselves into the shape of a weapon.

First came a long shaft, extending nearly a meter in both directions from his grip.

Then, razor-sharp blades emerged from each end.

Within seconds, the armament was complete.

Kyle lifted it closer for inspection.

Intricate engravings flowed across the metal, each line so precise that it looked as though the weapon had been forged by the greatest blacksmith to ever exist.

The twin blades resembled oversized throwing knives, each edge honed to frightening perfection.

At the center was a thick, well-balanced grip that fit naturally in his hand.

The moment he wrapped his fingers around it, an odd sense of familiarity washed over him.

It didn’t feel like a newly summoned weapon.

It felt like something that had always belonged in his hands.

And if it wasn’t enough,

[Greetings, father.]

It talked.

The heavy masculine voice resonated inside his head.

The armament regarded him respectfully, causing Kyle to smile wryly.

After Aquilla, he now has a son too?
