Chapter 250: Being disrespectful
Utter silence settled over the hall the moment the old man’s eyes locked onto Kyle.
Then,
"You!" he shouted. "It was you!"
Amanda frowned. "Gramps?"
The old man let out a pained groan. "He’s the one who got me caught on that train. I was this close to getting beaten to a pulp by the entire crowd."
The man standing beside him, dressed in a familiar black uniform, glanced at Kyle before speaking.
"You’re Kyle, right? I saw you at the arena during the rift incident two days ago."
Kyle recognized the uniform immediately. He was a CPV officer. He had seen him at the rift site as well.
"What?" The old man’s eyes nearly popped out of their sockets. "You’re a Nightwalker, and you still accused me of molesting that girl?"
Kyle parted his lips to explain, but no words came out.
How was he supposed to tell them that he could only see the Aether World while using God’s Eye?
He had no idea the old man had been trying to help that girl on the train.

He had completely misread the situation and dragged an innocent man into trouble.
To make matters even worse, the old man turned out to be the Patriarch’s father and his girlfriend’s grandfather.
Yeah... he was finished.
"Kyle?" Hades looked at him with a frown. "What exactly happened today?"
"Why are you asking him?" the old man snapped. "Do you not trust your own father anymore?"
Now that he knew Kyle was a Nightwalker, his conviction only grew stronger.
"He just wanted to play the hero in front of everyone and used me as the perfect scapegoat. That’s all."
He let out a cold snort.
"If Tyler hadn’t been at the station where they dragged me, who knows where I would have ended up spending the night."
Hades sighed. "I wouldn’t have let you spend the night in a cell, Father."
"That doesn’t change the fact that my reputation was ruined because of his foolish mistake!" the old man shot back, pointing an accusing finger at Kyle once again.
The CPV officer stepped forward.
"Please calm down, Sir Armond. I’m sure this is just a misunderstanding."
Amanda finally spoke.
"Gramps, I can guarantee this is all a misunderstanding. I know Kyle well enough to completely disagree with the conclusion you just came to."
The old man, Maylith Armond, stared at her in stunned silence.
Amanda then turned to Kyle.
"Kyle, please tell us what really happened. I don’t want Gramps to keep suspecting you."
Kyle let out a slow breath before answering calmly.
"In exchange for completely suppressing my presence, I can temporarily lose my connection to the Aether World. That’s why I couldn’t see the Nightmare at all."
He had chosen the closest explanation to the truth.
Revealing anything about God’s Eye was out of the question, but at least this explanation was believable.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough.
"Oh, really?" Armond scoffed. "Is that your skill? Making excuses out of thin air?"
Hades shook his head.
"Father, you’re too worked up right now. Come, have a seat first."
Tyler quickly chimed in.

"Please, Mister Armond. This isn’t good for your health."
Armond let out a long sigh before finally giving in with a reluctant nod.
With Hades and Tyler supporting him, he slowly walked away, passing Kyle without sparing him so much as a glance.
Amanda watched him leave before taking a deep breath and walking over to Kyle.
"Let’s go, Kyle," Amanda said. "We’ll head to your place and watch a movie or something."
Kyle blinked in surprise.
"But why?"
Amanda shook her head.
"I can’t stand there and watch someone disrespect you, even if that someone is my grandfather. The only reason I didn’t snap at him is because of the respect I have for him. But if this goes on any longer, I won’t be able to hold myself back."
Her frustration was impossible to miss.
Her gaze wandered restlessly around the room while her fists remained tightly clenched at her sides, as though she was desperately trying to contain herself.
Kyle wasn’t nearly as bothered by Armond’s words as he was concerned for Amanda.
He gently placed his hands on her shoulders.
"Babe, if I leave now, I’d only be disrespecting your family, especially your father. So please, let me at least talk to him first."
"But, Kyle..."
"I know, Amanda."
Before she could continue, he pulled her into a gentle embrace.
"I know you’re upset because of the way your grandfather spoke to me. But you can’t deny that, from his perspective, his reaction made sense. Since I’m a Nightwalker, I should’ve been the last person to accuse him."
Amanda let out an annoyed huff.
"And if you weren’t a Nightwalker? Then wouldn’t you have done exactly what any decent person should? Besides, you didn’t even lie about not being able to perceive the Nightmare."
Kyle chuckled softly.
"I know. But it’s okay. He’s angry right now. Once he calms down, he might see things differently."
Amanda still looked unconvinced.
She had every reason to.
This was the first major step in their relationship, and she knew how badly Kyle wanted to leave a good impression on her father.
Amanda had only just managed to calm herself when a voice came from inside.
"Amanda?"
It was unmistakably Armond’s.
Kyle gave her shoulder a reassuring pat.
"Go on. And please, don’t lose your temper, okay? I don’t want you fighting with your grandfather because of me."
Amanda nodded.

"I’ll try. But you’re coming with me."
Kyle smiled and nodded.
The two of them soon stepped back into the reception hall.
"Ah, Amanda, there you are." Armond gestured toward Tyler. "Have you still not recognized him, or are you just being shy?"
Kyle looked at the officer once again.
Tyler looked to be in his early twenties. He had slick black hair, sharp green eyes, and a naturally handsome face. Tall and broad-shouldered, the black CPV uniform only made his imposing physique stand out even more.
And right now, he was smiling at Amanda. That kind of irked him.
"He’s the same boy you used to play with whenever you came over," Armond added.
Tyler gave Amanda a polite nod.
"You’ve grown up beautifully, Amanda."
Amanda simply stared at him.
She honestly couldn’t remember him at all.
Armond continued proudly, "Did you know, Hades? After graduating from the academy, Tyler received an invitation from the central government. But he turned it down because he wanted to work in public safety, just like his father."
Hades nodded with genuine appreciation.
Armond sighed.
"Such an idealistic and strong-willed young man."
After a brief pause, his gaze shifted to Kyle.
"And you? What do you do?"
Amanda’s body immediately tensed.
Sensing it, Kyle discreetly squeezed her hand before answering calmly.
"I’m currently a trainee at the base. Soon, I’ll be joining the academy."
Both Armond and Tyler frowned.
"What nonsense are you talking about?" Armond said bluntly. "Have you been avoiding training all this time?"
Amanda was already on the verge of exploding, and Kyle doubted he would be able to stop her this time.
Then, a calm voice cut through the room.
"Father. That’s enough."
Everyone turned toward Hades in surprise.
Armond frowned.

"What do you mean, ’that’s enough’?"
Hades let out a quiet sigh.
"You shouldn’t jump to conclusions without giving him a chance to explain."
"What could he possibly explain?"
Hades met his father’s gaze.
"That he awakened his powers only a month ago."
He paused before adding,
"And despite that, he’s already stronger than everyone else in this room."
Silence swallowed the hall once again.
