Chapter 838: Chapter 708: Just Kill Them
Seeing the three City Guards swiftly run out of the mud-brick house, Xiao Moshan and Flower Scorpion were both bewildered.
After a few seconds, Flower Scorpion spoke in disbelief, "At this time, someone still dares to attack the City Guard?"
The Celestial District’s public order is among the best, yet there have been plenty in the past who dared to challenge the City Guard.
But not long ago, a large number of Awakened ones and massive amounts of weaponry arrived, and those who dared to resist were all subdued.
The Wastelanders are indeed brave and combative, but they’re not foolish; those without some awareness don’t survive long.
Lately, while the order in the Celestial District hasn’t visibly improved, no one would dare provoke the City Guard.
"I find it strange too," Xiao Moshan softly murmured, then his eyes suddenly brightened, "The Awakened have left!"
Without the Awakened to hold the ground, those City Guards are nothing in their eyes.
"Seems like an opportunity," Flower Scorpion murmured softly.
She felt a flash of inspiration flicker through her mind but couldn’t quite grasp it, "What can we do?"
"The town’s exit is blocked by the City Guard," Xiao Moshan returned to his usual lifeless state, "Do nothing for now."
"But..." Flower Scorpion hesitated before speaking, "What if it’s him?"
Xiao Moshan was silent, only speaking after a long time, "I’ll go out through the tunnel and check, be back soon!"
While the two of them conspired, fifty-plus kilometers away, a figure brandished a blade like lightning, pursuing a group of elite soldiers.
This figure was, of course, Qu Jianlei. He sensed around, found no trace of Bentley and the others, and didn’t bother to keep searching.
He had considerable faith in his comrades’ ability to hide, especially Bentley and Xiao Moshan.
The fact that the enemy was conducting a massive search also indicated someone was on the run.
This was no big deal; if he couldn’t find them, he might as well create a bloody scene and let his comrades find him.
He sensed briefly, found the area near Beijing was being combed, and headed straight there.
Qu Jianlei didn’t necessarily believe his comrades would hide in Beijing proper, but under the circumstances, it was an opportunity to escalate things.
About twenty kilometers from the outskirts of Beijing, he landed, put away his Space Mecha, and drew a Long Blade.
This blade was also crafted by his own hands, and not even an A-level Gold Attribute armor could withstand a strike from it.
With the Long Blade in hand, he sped along, rushing towards Beijing as fast as the wind.
About seven or eight kilometers from the outskirts, a wary City Guard spotted the figure.
The figure was unimaginably fast, almost impossible to see clearly; the City Guard hesitated to fire, afraid of offending a significant figure.
They fired a warning shot into the air first, "Halt! Identify yourself!"
The figure flashed and headed directly towards them.
At a critical moment, a B-level Warrior stationed there shouted, "Shoot! The incoming is an Ultimate Warrior, an enemy not a friend!"
With this command, disaster ensued. Qu Jianlei originally hadn’t decided whether to kill these City Guards.
He never had a great impression of the City Guard, but these were locals from the Wasteland, after all.
Out of camaraderie, if he could extract some information, he didn’t mind letting them go.
Yet, when the gunfire erupted, he couldn’t be blamed for being ruthless.
In the eyes of the City Guard, the foe’s movement was ghostly quick and elusive, nearly impossible to aim at.
Bullets were sprayed wildly, with few coming close to hitting; even if one did, it had no effect.
The B-level Warrior’s face changed, "Trouble, the incoming is at least A-level and armored, report this up quickly, and hold him off!"
By the time he spoke, the figure had already reached the City Guard.
The gray Long Blade in his hand flickered swiftly, creating waves of blood rain.
The ten-member squad responsible for guarding was wiped out in the blink of an eye.
"Mecha up!" the B-level Warrior shouted, charging in himself.
He knew he wasn’t a match, but as an elite of the Divine Text Association, he was confident in his tactics.
He didn’t need to defeat the enemy, just needed to employ techniques to entangle him, as two Mecha units assisted.
Unfortunately, in the next instant, he saw his own headless body, with blood gushing skyward from his neck.
"How could it be so fast?"
One Mecha was agility-type, and Qu Jianlei sliced it in half with one strike; the other was impact-type.
This type was the bulkiest and strongest model of Mecha, without exception.
Qu Jianlei, fearing for his Long Blade, grabbed the Mecha and tossed it into the sky.
The fifty to sixty-ton Mecha was flung over a hundred meters high before crashing down heavily.
With a loud thud, the ground shook twice, exactly the tremor Xiao Moshan and the others felt.
Qu Jianlei wasn’t sure whether the Mecha was damaged, but he was certain the pilot inside was dead.
At this moment, other Awakened ones got the news and hurried over, witnessing the terrifying scene from afar.
"Is that...a mecha? Who can throw a mecha that high?"
A B-level warrior perceived more clearly, "Oh my, it’s not just a mecha, it’s an impact type mecha!"
Many of them were awakeners from the Divine Text Association and had various relations with the military.
Although compared to the Imperial mechas, the Garbage Star’s mechas are monkey versions, they’re still the heaviest model.
Someone immediately made a decision, "It seems we can’t win...remote fire suppression!"
However, the moment they opened fire, they were dumbfounded. The opponent was not only incredibly strong but his movements were also exceptionally bizarre and agile.
The perplexing thing was, despite being an awakener, he never used techniques, merely injuring others with a blade.
What was even more frustrating was that the blade was incredibly fast, even slicing through mechas.
After seven or eight reinforcements were killed, the rest couldn’t hold it anymore. With a shout, they turned around and fled.
In that moment, they cast aside words like "suppression" and "entanglement."
The members of the Divine Text Association were not afraid of death, but being sent to die is another matter.
As military warriors, fearlessness in the face of death is expected, but sacrifices should have value; worthless martyrdom is foolish!
"Run northeast, there are Lords Qi Ming and Qi Qiang there."
Qi Ming and Qi Qiang were internal code names within the Divine Text Association, both A-level overseeing the front capital.
The members of the Divine Text Association were after all well-trained; even during their retreat, they showed considerable organization, occasionally resisting.
But generally, the cost of resistance was death. The opponent really was in a killing frenzy, each move decisive with no hesitation.
Seeing this, the awakeners quickly ordered the city guard arriving to hold back.
The city guard wasn’t foolish either; seeing the big figures from above retreat in defeat, unable to block even a single move, who wants to invite disaster upon themselves?
Discovering they couldn’t command these lowly natives, the noble awakeners were enraged.
"Under the name of Central City, I order you to hold back the enemy! Otherwise, post-war extermination of your clans is certain!"
This wasn’t just a scare tactic; these people genuinely did not regard the locals as humans.
The city guard, helpless, was forced to pick up weapons, shooting at Qu Jianlei.
Qu Jianlei was enraged at the sight, "You coward! You’re afraid of them, but you’re not afraid of me?"
As he cursed, he casually slaughtered the city guard. His ghost-like figure caused heads to roll, scattering gun components everywhere.
"Fire again, and I’ll exterminate all high-levels of the front capital, along with you cowardly garbage awakeners."
Upon hearing this, the city guard realized he wasn’t to be trifled with either, and extermination later was less concerning than immediate death.
One clever-minded guard fired aimlessly into the air—whether it hit or not, he was still shooting.
Numerous withdrawing awakeners were infuriated at hearing this, a B-level shouted, "Filthy scum of Garbage Star, do you know who you’re talking to?"
Qu Jianlei sensed the killing intent of the city guard was decreasing significantly, so he didn’t bother targeting individual ones.
His figure flickered, arriving before the insulting B-level, a gray blade flashed, and a head soared.
"You mongrel dog, really think being from the Empire makes you superior?"
The term "Empire" was taboo, even in Central City, let alone in the Celestial District.
The awakeners were horrified at the sight, harsh words spewing forth, just as other awakeners from different directions came to support.
Indeed, they were retreating, but also hindering the pursuit speed of the figure.
Every so often someone was cut clean in two, yet there were still those bold enough to counterattack, usually timing their moves well.
It was evident that these awakeners possessed a certain degree of fanaticism, not only disregarding others’ lives but also devaluing their own.
Were they truly fearless? Perhaps not, but coordinating tactics before dying while keeping clarity indicated courage.
Thus, the scene unfolded where one figure was relentlessly chasing a group of elite warriors.
These warriors never scattered in flight but resisted step by step, their direction clear.
But Qu Jianlei didn’t care, pursuing until two figures flew overhead.
The A-level with the Gold Attribute spoke first, "You’ve got a real nerve; kneel now and beg for mercy, and I may spare your life!"
The other A-level with the Wood Attribute had started the finger technique, "Madman, I won’t spare you...Vine Technique!"
The Gold Attribute A-level being Qi Ming, and the Wood Attribute being Qi Qiang, both were in charge of overseeing the searches in the front capital area.
"Two larger mongrels," Qu Jianlei sneered coldly, his body flickering, suddenly soaring into the air, slashing at Qi Qiang.
Qi Qiang’s Vine Technique had already unfolded, but the key issue was—he couldn’t lock onto the opponent’s bizarre figure!
The opponent’s instant flash speed left him barely able to react.
Seeing the swiftly approaching figure, an indistinguishable gray blade light, he only had time to shout once.
"Electromagnetic self-h..."
Qi Qiang, just clad in Second Layer Golden Armor, saw his companion’s head fly off, blood raining down, and was instantly horrified.
"Stop! Do you know where we come from?"
