Chapter 33: Jun Li
There was a rush of footsteps and a huge, muscular man came charging down the hallway towards me. I would have to give him points; he was definitely attractive. Robotics had come a long way from the talking greyish-blue head to this body.
Instead, the man standing in front of me was easily 6 feet tall with black hair and brown eyes. His hair was cut in a very stylish angular fringe that draped over the left side of his head, a few strands falling onto his face and covering his eye.
Dressed in a tight black t-shirt and blue skinny jeans with black combat boots, I could see his muscles flexing and shifting as he ran.
I continued to stare at the body that Jun Li had chosen when I can to a very sudden realization.
Kind of like my armor, Jun Li hadn’t been able to really put his new body through its paces before coming to rescue me. Which meant that he probably didn’t know where the breaks on the thing were.
Stepping out of the way, I watched as the body continued to rush past me before slamming into the wall at the other end of the hallway.
Walking over to him, I looked down at the man laying on his back on the floor, taking in the few details that I had missed before. Details like the blue tribal designs peeking out through the tight sleeves on his arm or the royal blue sapphire earrings that decorated his ears.
"Hi," I said with a smile on my face once I was done checking him out. "Nice body."
"It was the only one that they had completed on such short notice," said the body with a shrug of his shoulders. His movements were jerky, but that was only to be expected. It looked like both he and I would have a lot of training to do on the long space ride back. Me, trying to figure out my armor, and him, figuring out how to work his body.
"What do you mean?" I asked blinking my eyes. "Is this not the body that you ordered?" Because honestly, it suited him to a ’T’.
"No, I had it transported up from the company that I had ordered my actual body from. That one will be coming at the end of the week like planned."
"Wait, you are getting two bodies?" I asked stunned. Reaching out my hand, I helped Jun Li come to a standing position. "And take it from someone that has already learned how to walk. Go slowly and take it one step at a time."
"Now you tell me," he replied with a very human smirk on his face. "But being able to control all the functions of this body is making me very excited. Although it is not as demanding as the ship is, it does have its own challenges."
"I bet," I said with an eye roll. "But now that you have rescued me, can you take me back to the ship so I can get a change of clothes? I have no idea where that guy put mine and I can’t exactly walk into my condo looking like this."
That reminded me. I turned around and looked for a bathroom. Spotting it a few doors down, I engaged the helmet and went to go look at myself.
When I saw myself in the mirror, I had to blink a few times. Knowing I was one of the very few species to have breasts present at all times (some species only had them develop in order to feed their infant and then they went away after) I figured that this suit of armor had to have been created for my body when I first activated it.
The scale plating continued up both arms to the shoulders. On each forearm was a black rectangular-looking thing. I knew the one on my left arm was the wrist computer, but there was a much thicker plate of matte black metal that housed the triple wrist blades.
The black armor was made from what looked like a cross between Batman’s armor and Catwoman’s suit in the 2008 movie. However, I knew that it was technically Nanos, so while it was incredibly flexible, it was also as hard as metal. For some reason, it framed my breasts making them look better than any push-up bra ever had
Looking down, I appeared to be wearing thigh-high black boots with a 5-inch heel. Wondering if the Nanos were created by a man because no woman would think that armor needed to have high-heeled boots to it, I stared at the helmet in the mirror.
There was a light coming from the eye slits within the helmet that glowed a dark purple color, almost the color of an eggplant. But other than that, the helmet was completely black and formfitting with spikes coming out the back like short hair that had been gelled back.
All in all, it was a very kickass look. The problem was that it was very much a non-human look to it.
I walked back to where Jun Li was standing in the hallway, realizing that the heels were a lot more comfortable than I gave them credit for. I guess the real test would come when I was running for my life.
"You know, life you be a lot easier if you would just let me sync you to your armor. That way you would only need to think about things in order for it to work," muttered Jun Li as he looked me up and down. The funniest part was how human he looked compared to me.
I understood where he was coming from, but I really didn’t want too many things in my head at the same time. It was crowded enough with just me in there. And then there was Jun Li...
"Do you hate systems because they are, at their core, AIs?" asked Jun Li softly as he looked at me with a sad face.
"No," I replied shaking my head. "In fact, it wasn’t until you mentioned it right now that I realized that they were AIs."
"Then what is your problem with systems?"
"I have yet to read one novel where going out of a crap ton of quests and side missions worked out for anyone," I grumbled. Not that I thought the novels were always right, but it was still one of those weird thoughts in my head. And I wasn’t willing to take any chances.
Just as I was thinking about all the reasons why I didn’t want another thing in my head, my wrist computer chirped at me. "Would you like to initiate the voice activation?"
