Chapter 278: Voice Of Reason

Da’kea’s head snapped toward me at the sound of my voice. He froze, not moving a muscle like I was an Istar queen that had him in my eyesight.

"We will be leaving as soon as we have our stuff together," he said slowly as he started to back away toward the doors. "Just give us time to leave. Please, only a few clicks, and we will be gone."

That did it.

I tilted my head back and burst out crying in the most dramatic way possible. Seriously, I didn’t think I had it in me to act like this. But my six mates who just promised me the world just dropped me the second I told them I was pregnant. Oh... and someone was cutting onions.

My body was practically convulsing with my tears, but I couldn’t stop them. No matter how hard I tried to pull the back in and pretend that everything would be okay. I just needed this cry right now.

But once I was done, I would put on my big girl underwear and move on. My baby didn’t need six dads. I would be more than enough for him or her. Plus, we had Jun Li, so it wasn’t like we would be alone.

It might just take me a bit to get to a planet and make it home. I would need help the first little while after I give birth.

Fuck.

A new rush of panic hit me as I realized that I would be alone for the birth.

It was not like I could just go back to Earth and give birth in a hospital surrounded by professionals. The dad could be any of the guys, but I am pretty sure I could already guess the reaction of any doctors in a human hospital once a Saalistaja or werewolf came out of me.

Yeah, I would be locked up in a government facility faster than I could sneeze.

"My hearts," said Da’kea, slowly approaching me as if I was about to attack him. Well, joke’s on him. I was ready to rip both of his heads off. He could just as easily be one of the fathers as the other guys.

But oh no, they got their rocks off, and now it was up to me to deal with the consequences.

Then again, it is also my fault. I wasn’t exactly insisting that they put on a condom, nor was I on the pill.

"My hearts," said Da’kea again. "You need to calm down. It is not good for the offspring if you are like this."

"Fuck you!" I screamed. He did not just say that. "It’s not like you fucking care about me or the kid. You and the others can’t wait to get out of here. So, fuck off! I never want to see you again."

Look at me experiencing a whole range of emotions.

"Jun Li, I need everyone back here now; tell them to drop what they are doing and move," said Da’kea. His words were harsh, but his tone was like he was trying to soothe a wounded animal.

Ha, he probably thinks that I was the wounded animal.

There was silence as he waited for the other guys, my sobs calming down to sniffles as I was utterly wrung out. Now, all I wanted to do was sleep.

But the nest was where we all slept together. I couldn’t sleep there without them.

With a huff, I got out from under the furs and walked toward the bed. I guess it was a good thing I had kept it.

Crawling under the blankets, I shivered at how cold they were.

"My hearts, you need to go back to your nest," said Da’kea, holding out a hand for me to take.

"Fuck you. I’ll burn it before I go back there."

Midnight had shown me that you could buy furs at almost any space station. I would get Jun Li to grab me some next time we were close enough to one.

The door to my room opened, and the five guys rushed back in.

"What does she need?"

"Is the offspring okay?"

"Why isn’t she in her nest? Do they leave the nest in the early days?"

"I don’t know, it wasn’t like I was ever around a female that was with offspring." The voices of my guys tumbled over each other to the point that I didn’t know who was saying what, but I recognized my guardian angel’s voice.

"I think there is a miscommunication that needs to be addressed," said Da’kea as he cautiously walked toward the bed and sat down at the edge of it. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚

I moved my body so that he could have more room, and he smiled at me.

"Now, my hearts, you seem to be upset. Could you please explain why?" he asked, his diplomatic voice out in full force.

You know how when you are in an argument with someone or are overly emotional, the calmer and more composed the other person just sets you off? As if they are talking down to you?

No? Just me?

Fuck.

Well, I wanted to dive across the bed and rake my nails over Da’kea’s face to see if he could still be so calm and rational afterward.

"I seem to be upset?" I asked, my eyes widened at his words. And this was the mate I had always counted on for his intelligence. But to him, I only seemed to be upset.

Da’kea nodded his head, not understanding my tone.

"Okay," came Jun Li from the overhead speakers. "I normally don’t interfere with your personal relationship, but this is just absurd. I have sent information on the childbearing practices of humans. Study it and then come back to have a discussion. As Da’kea said, this isn’t good for Mei Xing. And all six of you are bordering on ’too stupid to live’."

I felt myself relax with Jun Li’s words. He was definitely the voice of reason right now. He would make a great godfather to the baby. I would have to ask him. But he was right. There was probably some sort of cultural thing that I was missing, and I was too emotional to recognize it right now.
