Chapter 267: Reactions
"That was oddly satisfying," said Jun Li as the eight of us watched the destruction of Stargazer from the safety of the command bridge.
Just the way he had said it made me burst out laughing. He said it in the way that someone might have said, ’The sky is blue,’ and for some reason, it was absolutely hilarious.
GA had to adjust his grip on me so that I didn’t fall out of his lap, and even Night was clinging onto me, a disgruntled look on his face.
"Sorry," I said, waving away their look of concern. A part of my brain realized that it wasn’t nearly as funny as I was making it out to be, but I don’t think that I was laughing because it was funny.
It was like a huge pressure was released, and I could finally breathe. It was euphoric.
"What is next on the list of things to do?" asked Da’kea as he walked over to me and plucked me out of GA’s arms. Night let out a chirp of protest before giving up on me completely. Jumping out of my lap, I watched as he disappeared.
"We need to go to the Alliance’s headquarters and deal with them," I said, snuggling into his arms next. I had never noticed that he smelt like a bonfire before. All warm and smoky. It made me crave toasted marshmallows.
I buried my nose into his neck like I had with GA and licked him. He even tasted like marshmallows. Sweet and a bit bitter from the fire. It was heaven.
"Has your scent changed?" he demanded as he pulled away from me just enough that he could look down at me.
"Probably," I answered with a shrug. I was also pretty sure that I knew why, too. But I wouldn’t admit it out loud until the Alliance was under control. I wouldn’t be able to deny it forever, but right now, the guys didn’t need the extra stress.
My biggest concern was what would happen next. I had created a huge power void in the universe, and I needed to plug it up as fast as possible before a new enemy managed to crawl out of the woodwork.
If I was in high demand before, it would be nothing like what it would be if I were—
Nope, not even thinking the word.
I took in a deep breath and collected myself. "Jun Li?"
"We have already left. It should only take a few hours before getting to the headquarters. Stargazer and the rest of the L-series ships were at the borders of the Alliance’s home planet, so it won’t take any time at all to get the building itself. The hardest part is trying to find a way to get planet side. They don’t let just anyone into their space," said Jun Li. He sounded like he was back to normal, and I was taking that as a good sign.
But I already knew how I was going to spend the next few hours, and it wasn’t trying to figure out how to get planet side.
"When you get close enough, I will deal with it," said Da’kea as he spun around and walked out of the command bridge. "As the Saalistaja diplomate, I have uncontested access to the Alliance headquarters whenever I want."
Whelp that solved that problem.
I nodded my head that I had heard him, but the only thing on my mind was to take a nap right now. Something told me that dealing with the Alliance wasn’t going to be as easy as it was to deal with Pippa. They might be a headless snake right now, but that didn’t mean they weren’t dangerous.
"Need a bigger nest," I grumbled for what seemed like the 100th time. I wanted everyone around, but there just wasn’t enough room.
"I’ll slip back to my ship and get all the furs I have," interrupted Raguk. He gave me a soft look that seemed to melt me.
Da’kea grunted his agreement, but then GA just had to speak up. "Make sure to keep that female far away from you at all times," he instructed the other male. "Don’t give her any furs that might have touched another male or female, and make sure that you are fast."
Raguk simply nodded his head. I was much too tired to deal with other women drama, but I was also the first one to admit that if I smelled so much as another female on something that went inside my nest, I wasn’t sure how I was going to react.
That’s a lie. I knew exactly how I was going to react.
I would hunt down that female and skin her alive until she bled out on the floor beneath my feet. Then, making sure she was still alive because I am a good person like that, I would send her over to Sha Shou and let Princess eat what was left.
I took in a deep breath and fell asleep in Da’kea’s arms, dreaming about how I was going to kill the nameless Uugazt female.
----
Raguk took a shuttle from Jun Li and flew over to his command ship. His mind was a mess of everything that he had learned. It seemed like he had been there for years when, in all honestly, it was less than a full revolution.
He had met his mate. And she was phenomenal, everything that he had ever dreamed of when he was alone at night. On her ship, he had finally felt like he could be himself. He didn’t have to pretend.
Cracking his neck back and forth, he put on the mask he wore when he was the head of the Uugazt’s first horde. He would not dishonor his ancestors by being weak in front of his men.
The hatch on the shuttle opened, and he stepped out right into a crowd of his men.
Nodding to them, he didn’t bother to speak. He strolled out of the landing bay and went to the upper level, where his room was located.
He could feel his second trailing behind him, ready to take any order he gave.
"My lord," he said, bowing his head as Raguk came to a stop outside of his quarters.
"You may enter," grunted Raguk. "But I am telling you now, I am not going to be here for long."
His second nodded, and the hatch opened.
