Chapter 239: What’s The Point if They Are Dead?

Night stared at the newest male to enter his space and cocked his head to the side. It was unlike anything that he had ever seen before and seemed to blend into the shadows just as well as he did.

Tilting his head to the other side, he watched the male studying him back. Approving his lack of a challenge, Night walked closer to the thing that only had four legs. Letting out an inquisitive chirp, he heard a low rumble in reply.

Pumpkin. The male’s name was Pumpkin.

Night nodded his head as he had seen his female do several times. Turning around, he started to walk away. As expected, the creature followed him but seemed to be unable to walk properly. It seemed to hop on its two back legs, using the front two more of a means of balance than anything else.

Was it injured? It was useless to protect the female if it was damaged.

Letting out a long, frustrated sigh at the number of males his female seemed to bring home, Night made a very slow demonstration on how to walk properly, putting one foot in front of another. Looking over his shoulder, he picked up his back legs higher than normal before placing them back down in a complete step.

The creature hopped.

Night closed his eyes and prayed to the Goddess for patience. This thing clearly didn’t know how to walk. Where in the universe did the female find this thing?!?

Once again, Night, King of all Nightmares, slowly stepped forward, his eight legs working in perfect sync with each other.

And once again, the stupid creature bounced forward on his two hind legs.

Night was about to put both of them out of misery when one of the medium-sized bots shot out of the wall and raced down the corridor. While it had startled Night the first few times it had happened, he had now learned to simply ignore the non-living creatures as they went about their day.

The only time they posed a problem was for the smaller members of his guard when they went around sucking up everything. It was almost impossible to build a proper home, but they had learned to build them high up above everyone’s head. It was the only way the sucker couldn’t get to them.

The new creature, not expecting the bot, shot up into the ceiling and simply disappeared into the darkness.

Night stared up at the ceiling, trying to find the male, but it was like he never existed at all. Huh. Guess he was good for something. Even if he didn’t know how to properly walk.

----

I would never admit this in a hundred million years, but that jolt to my brain had definitely woken me up. No caffeine needed.

Scratching my ear, which was still buzzing a bit, I walked onto the command bridge and went to sit down in my chair. Midnight came in behind me and took up his regular position while GA went to go stand beside him.

Da’kea, Tha’juen, and Ye’tab had opted to go to the living room and sort through all of the information that Jun Li had found on the ten girls from Earth. And it was a lot. Pippa alone was on every single popular social media platform that she could have, including some dating apps.

The three males were going to get a crash course on Earth behaviors, and I didn’t envy them at all.

But they wanted to do it, insisted on it, actually. They claimed that if Pippa was the threat that I thought she was, then it would be necessary to know how she thought.

What they didn’t seem to realize was that they weren’t dealing with their usual prey. They were dealing with an 18-year-old girl in her first year of university.

Oh well, better them than me.

"Raguk is hailing us," said Jun Li, his voice cutting through my thoughts.

"Put him through," I said. I had dressed for comfort today: a black sweater, a pair of comfortable jeans, and my fuzzy slippers. I had thrown up my hair into its standard messy bun and didn’t bother with any makeup, not like I ever did.

GA had tucked a black fur over my lap, and I curled my legs under me, thankful for the hundredth time that the Sisalik were so much bigger than me. It made getting comfortable in the oversized chair that much easier.

"Merciless," said Raguk as soon as the link was connected. He bowed his head, the waves of his hair covering his face and eyes.

"Raguk," I answered, nodding my head in return.

"Merciless’ mates," he continued, giving GA and Midnight a brief nod of acknowledgment.

I raised my eyebrow, impressed. He was the first one to recognize the other guys. I had to say, I definitely approved.

"Is everything okay?" I asked, quickly changing my statement for the original, ’What the fuck do you want this early in the morning?’ He was being nice. I could afford to be nice back.

"It is," said Raguk in an assuring manner. He attempted a smile, but it was clear that happy was not his default expression. "Is everything okay with you? I had expected to be able to meet, but your second informed me that it would take longer than expected."

"I’m fine," I answered with a wave. The conversation was getting awkward with every second that passed.

He let out a huff of air before straightening up to his full height. I am sure that it would be a lot more intimidating in person, but over the video conference feed, it was just cute.

"If you are willing to provide your location, me and my horde will be more than happy to meet at your convenience," he said in a rush.

Once again, I raised my eyebrow to look at the male. "Is this going to be another Alliance trap? Because I will have to admit, I am really tired and more than likely to kill first and ask questions later, if you get my drift." 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮

Raguk cocked his head to the side; an almost puppy dog look on the face of the normally terrifying male. "What is the point of asking questions if they are already dead?"

"Exactly," I replied with a nod.
