Chapter 145: Not Normal
The Saalistaja grunted as he took out a knife and started carving thin slices from the meat skewer in his hand. "I would like to point out that I was the first mate called to you, even if I didn’t know what was going on at the time."
"So where have you been all this time then?" I asked curiously as I watched him put the meat carefully on a plate before handing it to me.
"Around," he said, and I could hear the clicking of mandibles beside me. Turning to Ye’tab, I saw the male shaking his head.
"And by around, he means on your ship," said the other male.
Turning back to my Guardian Angel, I looked at him, my head cocked to the side. "Is that true? Were you on my ship ever since we left that jungle planet?"
GA simply shrugged his shoulders as if it wasn’t that big of a deal as he maneuvered his way around my fighter craft as if he already knew where everything was. I watched as he carefully wrapped up the rest of the meat before putting it away. He didn’t even take a bite for himself or offer a plate to any of the other males.
Nor did Midnight or Ye’tab ask for any. Huh, I appeared that food would only be served to me, and the rest of the guys would have to fend for themselves.
I think I liked that.
"I am surprised you haven’t mentioned how you gained that particular bit of insight," said GA as he found a fork and handed it to me. Pushing Ye’tab out of the way, he crouched down beside me and waited.
When I took too long to do whatever it was that he wanted me to do, he let out an annoyed click, took the fork from my hand, and stabbed it into the perfectly cut meat. He then held the offering up to my lips and waited for me to take a bite.
"I cooked it to the correct temperature," he grumbled when I didn’t immediately put it into my mouth. "Or is it because it is not konjin? I saw you eat other meats on the ship, but if you prefer konjin, I can go out and try to find some."
Instead of answering, I opened my mouth and let him feed me. Yeah, a girl could really get used to this level of devotion.
"And how did he find out that you were in my ship the whole time?" I asked, turning to Ye’tab once I had finished all the meat on my plate.
GA stood up and walked to the hatch. "Get under the covers," he commanded, not giving the other male time to answer my question. I pulled my furs up higher and watched as he opened the hatch and disappeared into the snowy landscape.
Shivering in the cold, I let Midnight pull me into his arms to warm me up. It took GA a few minutes to once again appear inside the ship. Closing the hatch behind him, I saw that he had a whole bucket filled with ice. Not sure what was going on, I watched him take a few of the water packets I had on board and put them in the snow.
"I wasn’t able to pack the hot beverages that you prefer, but at least your water should be at an acceptable temperature," he explained as he waited for a few minutes before scanning the packets with his wrist unit before wiping the snow off and handing it to me.
"I do not agree with giving you cold beverages when you are suffering from cold, but based on my observations, you only drink water that is zero degrees. Any warmer, and you require it to be heated to 100 degrees," he continued as he stared at me.
Being the quick learner that I was, I took a drink of the water, looking down for a moment so that he couldn’t see the smile on my face and think I was laughing at him.
"Thank you," I said, enjoying the cold water. He was right; I really hated to drink anything that was lukewarm or room temperature. "But you still haven’t answered my question," I continued, looking at Ye’tab. "How did you know that he was in my ship if you weren’t in it at the same time?"
"Who said I wasn’t?" shrugged Ye’tab. "But if you are going to get mad at me for being on your ship without permission, you need to be upset with him, too, for the same reason," he reasoned.
"You need to do a better job at head counts," interjected GA as if just remembering something. "It was too easy to hide amongst the voragyvis’ on your shuttle. Then you erased my presence just so you wouldn’t have to inform your ship about the creatures. Don’t do that again. I don’t want any more males being able to hide onboard."
I understood that if I was a normal human female, I should be able to see these red flags popping up all over the place. Luckily for me, I was not a normal human female, and I really liked the idea that I had two stalkers hiding somewhere on my ship.
I paused my drinking for a moment as I thought about all the fun and exciting ways that we could add their ability to disappear to any playtime.
Yeah, I wasn’t normal, but then again, neither were they.
Feeling more like myself after some breakfast and water, I stretched my arms over my head and rotated my wrists, letting all the creeks and cracks out.
"Is that normal?" asked Midnight, looking at my wrists with a very concerned look on his face.
"Probably," I replied as I brought my right wrist right beside his ear and slowly rotated it so he could hear the sounds even better. "But believe it or not, after I get all the snap, crackle, and pops out, it feels a lot better."
"We need to fix that; that’s not normal," said Midnight as he looked at the other two males in panic.
