Chapter 126: A Phone Call Home
The Elder, realizing the same thing as Silver, looked at the other wolf. "She is going to be one of the most hunted beings in the known universe once her presence is known. He is going to have to learn to share or be willing to kill himself. Killing the Ethawainian is not even a remote possibility. She is the only one of her species left alive until she has a daughter. If she even has a daughter."
The Elder stopped for a moment, trying to think if he was missing something, but for the life of him, he couldn’t remember it. Must not be that important.
"That’s all," he said with a definite head nod.
"Thank you, Elder," said Silver, bowing his head. He now had a lot of plans to make in order to ensure that his Alpha could stay close enough to the female.
"Not a problem. But anyone who remembers the old ways will know what happened as soon as they see your Alpha," cautioned the hermit as he opened the door back out into the swamp. "Now, fuck off."
-------
"So, what now?" asked Silver as he and Midnight sat down in Midnight’s personal runner.
"Now we go hunt down a very special arms dealer and worm my way onto her ship," replied Midnight. He might sound lighthearted without a care in the world, but the thoughts in his head were anything but.
He had a target on his back as long as the Alpha remained alive, but if he returned to his planet, he would either be killed or become the next Alpha. And as the Alpha, he would not be able to leave his planet ever again.
No, neither situation was beneficial to him. He needed to create a new plan. He dialed a number that he never thought he would call in his life and let the link ring.
"If it isn’t the prodigal son," sneered The One Chosen to Lead, not bothering to look at his son. Instead, he concentrated on the female on his knee, nuzzling his muzzle into her neck and reveling in her change of scent.
"I have a deal for you, Father," said Midnight, ignoring the show being put on. He thought he recognized one of the females around his father’s feet as a friend he used to play with, but that was years ago.
"Ha, you are done hiding and are going to come home to face the punishment you deserve?" asked the Alpha, still ignoring the video link.
"Nope. I am relinquishing all rights and ties to the Njeriuujk and Nuzora. From now on, I won’t be your son or have anything to do with you. What do you think?" smirked Midnight. He knew how tempting that offer would be to his Father. If he relinquished all his rights and ties, then he could never challenge him for the Alpha position.
It would also free up his father to raise one of his other 74 sons as the future heir.
The Alpha stood up, dropping the female in his lap onto the floor on top of the other females at his feet. "What?!" he demanded, spinning around towards the view screen and saw his son for the first time in 125 years.
"Hello, Father," smiled Midnight, puffing up his chest to display his new transformation.
"What the fuck happened to you?" demanded the Alpha as the scent of fear started to drift through the room.
"Not much," replied Midnight. "But I think we can both agree that you will not want me planet side... or completing for your title."
"Fine. I, The One Chosen To Lead, officially strip you, Midnight Along The Vast Fields, of your position and authority as my heir. You are no longer welcome here, nor can you call yourself my son," said the Alpha, spinning things to suit his narrative.
"Sure, Alpha, whatever helps you sleep better at night," smirked Midnight. "And just to let you know, I have recorded this conversation just in case you decide you want me as your son again one day."
The Alpha snorted, "Do you really think that I want an abomination such as yourself as my son? Blah, good riddance."
"I will send anyone back to the planet that wants to go back to their home. Otherwise, this will be the last time I will be in communication with you," said Midnight. At one point, there was nothing he wanted more than to take over the position as the Alpha of all Nuzora; however, finding his one true mate was much more important than that.
"Begone," snapped the Alpha, cutting off all communications.
Silver waited a moment before turning to look at his friend. "Are you sure you want to do that? What happens if that female doesn’t accept you?"
Midnight turned to look at his friend. "Would I be a worthy mate if I brought down the wrath of the Alpha onto my mate, knowing that she had her own enemies?" He shook his head. No, her enemies would become his, but never the other way around. He would eradicate anyone that proved a threat.
Silver remained silent, taking in Midnight’s words. "I follow you wherever you go," he replied after a moment with a shrug.
"Thanks, but I was thinking of making you captain of our ship," chuckled Midnight as he imputed the coordinates of the Wrath into the ship’s computer. "After all, I am going to be living on her ship from now on."
Silver glared at his chosen Alpha. Whether or not he relinquished all rights to their species, he would always be his Alpha. "You just don’t want to be captain anymore, do you?" he growled, not at all impressed.
"Meh, you were doing a much better job at it than I was anyways," smirked Midnight.
"Do you even know where to find this female of yours?" asked Silver, ignoring the other male.
"I do. It is just a matter of if I have enough furs," laughed Midnight, feeling light and free for the first time in his life. Cutting off all connections to his past was clearly a decision he should have made sooner. Then again, if he wasn’t preparing for war, he never would have bought the weapons from a certain small species that just happened to be his fated mate.
The universe definitely worked in mysterious ways.
