Chapter 43: Come Back Home
After Alex left the graveyard, he didn’t go back home immediately.
He decided to take a walk around the streets — One of the reasons was to find any information about Elizabeth, any that could be helpful to him.
As he strolled around, he saw fliers with an images on them, and while he looked at them, one flew his way and fell at his feet.
As he bent down to look at it, he was shocked to see Elizabeth face on it and a huge amount of money under her picture.
Realizing the realizing the situation, Alex quickly picked up the flier and scanned its contents.
It was a wanted poster.
Elizabeth’s face was printed in clear detail, her cold eyes staring back at him. Below her image, large bold letters announced a reward—an amount so high that it would attract hunters, mercenaries, and even ordinary people desperate for money.
Alex’s grip tightened on the paper. Who put this out? The hero organization? Or perhaps someone who wants to reap benefits?
His mind raced. This changed things. If people were actively looking for Elizabeth, then moving around carelessly was no longer an option. He needed to find her before someone else did.
Tucking the flier inside his pocket, Alex turned away from the bustling street and slipped into the shadows, his next destination set in his mind.
As he walked, his mind raced with possibilities — the possible places she could be. He knew a little about her private life — things such as her favorite places, food, likes, and dislikes... He knew nothing about them at all.
So it was difficult to find her.
He exhaled as he stopped by a shop — A tattoo store.
’I remember her uncle owns a tattoo store,’ he thought and immediately headed inside.
Opening the door, he saw a man tattooing someone.
"Hello," he greeted, walking towards them.
The man raised his head and the moment he saw Alex, he recognized him immediately.
"It’s you? Alex I suppose."
Alex was taken aback because other than his friends, no one really knows him.
"How do you know me?" He asked the man.
"Have a seat," the man replied. "I’ll soon finish with him and then we can talk."
Alex nodded and sat down on one of the chairs there, he silently watched as the young man did his job while inwardly hoping that his coming here would not be in vain.
After the man was done, they began their discussion...
"So how do you know my name?" Alex asked again.
"Elizabeth has told me about you," the man replied and instantly frowned his face. "It’s so sad that her father, my brother is dead. Adding to his death, his daughter has become a monster."
"She’s not a monster," Alex replied calmly, earning a glance from the man. "I came here because I wanted to know if you by any chance know where she loves to visit."
The man was silent for a while — possibly thinking for answers.
"I guess I do know one place but if I may ask, why are you so interested in her? She’s no longer a human but a monster who mindlessly kills people and feed on their flesh," he said. "I wonder why she hasn’t been caught yet," he mumbled under his breath but Alex heard him loud and clear.
He clenched his fists, digging his nails into his skin — look at who calls himself an uncle... Calling his niece a monster, would he be able to say all these in her face?
"It’s not business what I want to do with her," he said to the man. "Give me the location."
The man fell silent for a while before shrugging his shoulders. "Well, she always loves the sea. That’s the only possible place I can think of."
Alex rose to his feet without saying anything and turned towards the door. As he opened the door, he halted without turning around.
"From today henceforth, you seize to be her uncle. You are not worthy to be called her family."
With that, Alex left, leaving the door to close by itself.
"Tsk, who wants to be related to a monster?" The man mumbled in disdain.
Outside the store, Alex gazed into the dark sky — it was decorated with beautiful bright stars that lightened the night.
His mind wandered off to Elizabeth, where could she be? What could she be doing at the moment?
He needed to bring her back, he needed to get to her first before anyone does.
There was only one place with river in the city but to get there will take him like three hours — he had to go no matter what.
He headed to the road and immediately stopped cab. He opened the door and went in without a word.
"Where are you going, young man?" The driver asked.
"The head-bridge," Alex replied and the man drove off immediately.
While they were moving, the man turned on the radio.
The radio crackled to life, filling the car with the voice of a news reporter.
"Authorities have officially issued a bounty on a dangerous individual. Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the young woman identified as Elizabeth Kain is urged to report immediately. The suspect is considered highly dangerous. Witnesses claim she—"
Alex reached forward and turned the volume down. His grip tightened on his knee as he stared out the window.
Dangerous. Monster. Mindless killer.
Those were the words people used to describe Elizabeth now.
Why exactly? What did she do?
His mind was filled with questions, but none of them changed his decision—he was going to find her.
The cab continued down the quiet streets, the streetlights casting passing shadows inside the car. The driver glanced at Alex through the mirror but didn’t say anything, sensing the tense atmosphere.
Three hours felt like an eternity.
When they finally reached the head-bridge, Alex paid the driver and stepped out, the cool night breeze immediately hitting his face. The sound of waves crashing against the rocks reached his ears, along with the faint scent of saltwater.
His eyes scanned the area. The sea stretched endlessly, shimmering under the moonlight. There weren’t many people around—just a few distant figures enjoying the peaceful night.
If Elizabeth was here, she wouldn’t be out in the open.
He took a deep breath and started walking toward the shore, his footsteps quiet against the sand.
"Elizabeth..." he muttered under breath, eyes narrowing as he searched for any sign of her.
Then, just as he was about to move further, he noticed something, faint footprints leading away from the water, heading toward a cluster of large rocks.
His heart pounded.
He followed them without hesitation, he couldn’t wait to see her.
He wanted to see things for himself, to know exactly why she’s been tagged a dangerous monster.
