Chapter 19: Basic Training With A Hot MILF
’That’s insane,’ David thought, still processing it even as he tried to keep his expression neutral.
Mrs. Walbury studied him, still visibly thrown, before uncrossing her arms and rising off the mat where she sat. "You’re Awakened?" she asked, keeping her voice low, pushing a loose strand of hair back from her face.
"Keep it down," David said, glancing around the empty gym floor, as he waved his palm at her, gesturing for her to lower her voice.
"But yeah. I’m trying to apply to become a Hunter. That’s honestly the real reason I started all this — the training, the gym, all of it."
"That doesn’t make sense," she said, shaking her head, arms now loose at her sides as she took a slow step closer. "You’re nineteen. Most people who Awaken this late don’t usually—"
"Yeah, I know," David cut in, taking a sip of water just to have something to do with his hands. "Late bloomer, I guess."
She huffed out something between a laugh and disbelief, tilting her head as she studied him properly now. "I can’t even feel any magical energy off you. At all. That’s genuinely surprising."
"I believe you," David said. "Still figuring it out myself, honestly."
She was quiet for a second, rolling her shoulders like she was working out some tension, before speaking again. "Well — if you’re serious about becoming a Hunter, I don’t think it’s a bad goal. Ambitious. Not bad, though."
"I actually wanted to ask you something else, too," David said, setting the water bottle down on the bench beside him. "You were a Hunter — you’d know the training side way better than I do. I’ve got the body stuff figured out, more or less. Combat’s a whole different problem, though. Would you be willing to help me with that?"
She considered him for a long moment, arms crossing again loosely, weight shifting onto one hip as she studied his face like she was trying to place something she couldn’t quite name.
[Temptation Level: 27%.]
"Alright," she said finally. "I’m not exactly elite-level anymore, but I know the basics of a few martial arts — enough to teach you something useful, if you’re actually serious."
"Sure, I don’t mind starting today," David said, already rolling his shoulders. "How do we go about it?"
"Well, today’s not exactly over," Mrs. Walbury said, checking the time. "But we should still put some space between this and the strength stuff — your body needs to be loose, not fried. You up for a basic martial arts intro?"
"Yeah, I’m down," David said.
"Alright, get up," Mrs. Walbury said, stepping back to give him room. As he stood, she reached out, gripping his arm and pulling him a step closer, guiding him fully onto the mat.
"Wait — should we just start right away?" she asked. "That work for you?"
"Yeah," David said.
"You sure? I didn’t quite catch that," she said, arching an eyebrow.
"Yeah," David repeated, louder, a little sheepish.
"Alright then. First thing we’re doing is squaring you up." She gestured for him to plant his feet, adjusting his stance with a light tap to his ankle.
"Wider. You’re not standing in line at a grocery store."
He shifted his feet apart, and she circled him once, studying the adjustment before shaking her head.
"No — still too stiff. Loosen your knees a little." She stepped in close, correcting his shoulders with both hands, angling him properly. "Even out of practice, I could still take you down standing like that."
"Comforting," David muttered.
"It’s a warning, not a compliment," she said, moving around behind him, hands settling briefly at his hips to correct his alignment.
"Straighten up. Weight centered — not leaning forward like you’re bracing to fall on your face."
David held still, trying to focus on the correction and not on how close she’d gotten in the process.
"There," she said, leaning in slightly to check the line of his shoulders. "That’s better—"
She stopped.
Neither of them moved for a second. She’d leaned in a fraction too far, close enough that David could feel the light squish of her plush breasts even through her training bra against his back, and for a moment neither of them said anything at all.
Then she breathed in, slow, and something in her expression flickered — surprised, almost, like she’d caught the edge of his cologne without meaning to and it had actually landed for once.
She lingered there a half-second longer than professional distance really allowed before catching herself.
"Right," she said, voice a little rough, stepping back quickly. "That’s, uhh.... that’s the posture. Good."
[Temptation Level: 28%.]
Mrs. Walbury took a step back, catching herself for a moment before shaking her head slightly, refocusing. "Alright," she said, moving to the front of the mat. "How’s that feel? Squared up like that."
"Uh — stiff, honestly," David said, shifting his weight from foot to foot, glancing down at his own stance like it might explain itself. "Like I’m gonna tip over if you breathe too hard near me."
"Good, at least you’re self-aware." She raised both hands loosely in front of her, settling into an easy ready position. "Come at me. Basic attack, nothing fancy."
David hesitated, feet planted, not actually closing the distance.
"You sure? Not to be misogynistic, but you’re kind of a woman. And also my trainer. Feels like a lawsuit waiting to happen if I actually connect with something."
"I’ve handled bigger guys than you," she said, unimpressed, not moving from her stance. "I’ll live."
"Just saying, if I break something, that’s on you," David said. "I did warn you."
She rolled her eyes, the corner of her mouth twitching despite herself. "David. Attack me."
"Okay, but for the record, I raised concerns."
"Just bloody attack me already."
He finally moved in, still holding back more than the moment called for, and she read the hesitation in his shoulders immediately — sidestepping smooth and easy, tapping his shoulder before he’d even fully committed to the motion.
"Too slow, and way too obvious. I saw that coming before you even moved. Slow down, think about where your weight’s actually going before you commit to it."
He reset, planting his feet again, and tried a second time. She tapped him again, just as effortlessly, then reached out and adjusted his stance with a hand at his elbow, widening his base.
"Keep your base wider when you step in. You’re overextending every time."
He adjusted, attacked a third time — and this time she caught his wrist mid-motion, redirected his momentum with a small twist, and swept his leg out from under him in one clean, practiced motion.
David hit the mat with a solid thud, the padded surface cool and slightly rough beneath his palms as he lay there a second, blinking up at the ceiling, chest rising and falling.
He rolled onto his side and found her leg planted near his shoulder, her hand already extended down toward him.
"You good?" she asked.
"Yeah," David said, grinning up at her as he reached out and grabbed her hand. "I don’t go down that easy."
She hauled him up to his feet, shaking her head slightly, though a small, amused smile lingered at the corner of her mouth.
"Alright, big talker. Let’s go again."
