Chapter 27: Abyssal Bear
Deep in the night, inside his tent, Ryven was just about to wake from his deep sleep when he suddenly heard Samminah’s voice echo in his mind.
"Stay calm... And don’t move."
Hearing her serious tone, Ryven subconsciously looked around.
Before he could even understand what was happening, something suddenly wrapped around his body.
With a closer look, his face instantly turned pale.
A gigantic centipede had coiled itself around him.
Its enormous body was covered in a dark crimson exoskeleton. Sharp spikes could be seen in every segment, while countless twitching legs crawled across his body relentlessly.
Near its head were two curved white horns, and inside its grotesque mouth were rows upon rows of incredibly sharp teeth that could tear a person apart in seconds.
The creature’s sharp legs slowly tightened around him.
Strangely it didn’t harm the skin in his body.
A chilling sense of dread washed over Ryven, making it difficult for him to process what’s happening.
However, remembering Samminah’s earlier warning, he forced himself to remain still.
A few seconds later—
Swoosh!
The entire tent was suddenly sliced apart.
A moonlight blade shot forward and instantly severing the centipede’s head perfectly.
[??? Had slain a Second-Stage, Spirit Centipede!]
[Would you like to transfer the experience points to ??? Or take it all to yourself?]
Seeing the system notification, Ryven thought that he was finally safe.
However, he still felt something amiss.
The creature’s legs were still moving around his body. Upon sensing that, he didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
The centipede hadn’t even realized its head had already been cut off. The strike had been too fast and perfectly precise.
For now, all he wanted to do was to get out of fhe centipede’s grasp. But at the same time, the risk of it was too high.
Ryven couldn’t help but imagined the outcome if he made even the slightest movement.
Before he could even activate Iron Body, the centipede would most likely crush him to death instantly.
"Don’t move yet," Samminah calmly warned him. "Wait until the body completely loses its consciousness."
Samminah’s soothing voice reverberated against his ears.
Ryven could only do as she said.
For who knew how long, the legs that are coiling around him soon fell one by one each segment.
After regaining his freedom, Ryven immediately demanded an explanation.
"What the hell is that?!"
Samminah glance at him with pity.
"It’s not my fault, it just by chance you encountered a creature that specialized in sensing its surroundings."
"I didn’t noticed it just by now, since it was hiding underground."
"It’s extremely dangerous. Without my help earlier, you would have fallen into a deep slumber and never woken up again."
Upon hearing that Ryven felt chills.
"I really have to be cautious, and not be too reliant on your concealment ability."
Samminah let out a cold scoff, clearly feeling that her abilities had been criticized.
"Once I reach Level Twenty and my abilities evolve, I doubt something like that will happen again."
Ryven gave an unsurprised nod before turning his attention to their surroundings.
It’s already morning and the fog is much more thinner.
With the fog now thinner, his visibility had improved considerably. It didn’t take long for him to spot a pond in the distance.
Before continuing their expedition at hunting the Abyssal Bear, he decided to take a look at the system notifications.
[Would you like to transfer the experience points to ??? Or take it all to yourself?]
To make it more fair, Ryven splitted most of the experience points to Samminah. While him and Ryven was equal.
[+1025 Experience Points]
[??? Level increased +1]
[+450 Experience Points]
[Host, Level increased +1]
[+450 Experience Points]
[Fred’s Level increased +1]
Ryven nodded in satisfaction.
"Hm. From now on, put my Arcane Points into Reflex."
Samminah inquired casually from the side.
Ryven looked slightly surprised but still nodded.
He immediately assigned her two Arcane Points into Reflex, while once again placing his own points into Mana.
Fred received the same allocation as Ryven.
After storing away the tent Samminah had used, the group quickly resumed their journey eastward.
Looking at the map, Ryven noticed they were already getting close to their destination.
As they continued running through the dense fog, Ryven suddenly asked, "Do you know anything about this type of abomination?"
Hearing his question, she couldn’t help but shake her head in disappointment.
"If you’re going to get a mission, at least research the target beforehand."
"The Abyssal Bear possesses extremely powerful regeneration. And camouflage abilities."
"Though that Abyssal Bear has a lot of weaknesses, it possesses an extremely irrational mind and the lowest intelligence among Fourth-Stage abominations."
While explaining, she suddenly paused, seemingly realizing something. She shifted her gaze toward him and spoke expressionlessly once again.
"Though honestly, telling you its weaknesses doesn’t really matter."
Ryven frowned slightly.
"Why?"
Samminah couldn’t help but rub her forehead, seemingly annoyed by how slow he was.
"Because I won’t allow you to fight it alongside me."
"You’d only become a burden."
Ryven felt slightly offended upon hearing that.
However, he could only silently agree with her words. A Fourth-Stage abomination was vastly stronger than a Third-Stage one.
Although he had managed to fight one before, that was only because of special circumstances, such as the support from the guards and hunters.
Eventually, they arrived at a swampy area.
Samminah carefully inspected the swamp, as though she had vaguely sensed something.
Inspecting the swamp, a foul stench immediately assaulted their noses. Thick mud was scattered everywhere, as though some enormous creature had recently moved through the area.
Before Ryven could even say anything, she suddenly flicked her finger. A moonlight blade instantly shot toward a certain area.
Ackkk!!!
Suddenly, an abomination revealed itself.
Ryven blink, clearly not expecting that the Abyssal Bear would be so close to them.
It was only a few meters away from them.
Looking at the abomination, it was almost the size of the Green Troll, though slightly smaller.
However, the most terrifying part about it were its massive claws, sharp enough to seemingly tear apart anything in the claw’s path.
The creature had originally been lying quietly within the mud, resting comfortably.
But the moment Samminah’s moonlight blade struck its stomach, a deep wound spread across its abdomen as blood violently gushed out.
Clearly, it had never expected someone to notice its presence.
Taking advantage of its confusion, Samminah immediately launched three more moonlight blades.
The moment the Abyssal Bear stood up, several more wounds exploded across its body, causing blood to gush out even more violently.
ROARRR!!!
The Abyssal Bear suddenly let out a ear piercing roar, causing the tremors in the bodies of the surrounding abominations.
At the same time, its wounds rapidly began regenerating before their eyes.
After regenerating completely within just few second, it suddenly completely went berserk.
Mud and shattered trees flew everywhere as it wildly swung its gigantic claws, destroying everything in sight.
"Creatures without brains are always the most troublesome to deal with..."
Samminah sighed softly while calmly evading the mud splattering toward her, clearly unwilling to dirty herself.
"Stay back. This isn’t something we can interfere with."
Ryven calmly commanded Fred.
However, as he said that. The two reacted a little too late to the rampaging Abyssal Bear.
Mud splattered directly across their faces.
Ryven tried wiping the mud off his face.
However, the moment he did, he suddenly felt several black maggots wriggling across his hand and skin, producing sticky black slime.
Ryven’s face immediately twisted in disgust.
Without hesitation, he pulled out a handkerchief from his inventory and hurriedly wiped them off.
This is not a good experience at all... He thought silently.
Soon, Ryven quickly organized his thoughts. After witnessing countless corpses, exposed organs, and unbearable stenches, he had gradually grown accustomed to such scenes.
Because of that, he barely managed to
suppress the urge to vomit.
After wiping the filthy mud off his face, he turned his attention back toward the battle between Samminah and the Fourth-Stage Abyssal Bear.
At the moment, she still hadn’t launched her attack.
Instead, six moonlight blades silently hovered around her.
Each blade was over a meter long, and all of them were enveloped in Moon Luminsce, greatly amplifying their power.
With six Moonlight Blades enhanced by Moon Luminsce, Samminah was very confident, that she could eliminate the Abyssal Bear in one fell swoop.
The wounds from her earlier attacks had already fully regenerated.
For nearly ten minutes, the Abyssal Bear rampaged endlessly before it finally slowed down, taking several heavy breaths from exhaustion.
It seemingly believed its enemy had already disappeared.
Suddenly, the Abyssal Bear’s instincts screamed in warning.
It abruptly turned toward a distant tree branch, sensing an overwhelming threat lurking there.
However, it was already too late.
After rampaging for nearly ten minutes, its stamina had been greatly depleted.
The moonlight blades shot toward its neck.
All six blades aligned in a perfect sequence, streaking through the air one after another.
The first Moonlight Blade barely grazed its neck, leaving only a shallow cut.
The second sliced deeper, causing blood to seep from the wound.
The creature’s regenerative ability immediately began repairing the damage.
But before the wound could fully close, the third, fourth, Moonlight Blades struck consecutively.
Swoosh! Swoosh! Swoosh! Swoosh!
The relentless barrage carved through its neck, nearly severing its head from its body.
But, when the fifth and sixth moonlight blades shot forward, the remaining flesh of its neck was completely severed.
