Chapter 126: Salvo
The sounds of explosion ensued in the valley.
Thunderous and deafening, at the same time full of rhythm and intensity. The sound of the revolver echoed across the valley like the heartbeat of a slumbering beast.
Ravenous Lizards after the other fell at every beat and tempo of the revolver.
Like a death sonata was being played, the revolver erupted into a salvo of death and madness.
Desther sauntered forward, his steps measured and immaculate. With each step, triggers would be pulled. Each pull of the revolver’s trigger claims a Ravenous Lizard’s life.
The feast became chaotic. The Ravenous Lizards hissed in anger and denial as their comrades fell at every echo of the bullet.
Akin to the song of death, the Ravenous Lizards moved and dashed toward Desther with maddening resolve.
Their purpose clear and deliberate. For the life that was harvested, a life shall be claimed in return.
Unfortunately, what they were facing was no ordinary creature.
The revolver in his hand was a handicap, not a powerful tool at his disposal.
Merely a toy to satisfy his thoughts and cravings, and the fallen Ravenous Lizards were just a byproduct of what he truly wanted.
The Skill Fragments count rose at a steady rate.
Desther reloaded the revolver in a calm and practiced manner. Evading the attacks of the monsters that rushed toward him with natural ease.
As the chamber once again got emptied, the number of Ravenous Lizards had already dwindled into single digits.
Satisfied with his own marksmanship, Desther hoisted the two revolvers back and swiftly ended the life of the remaining Ravenous Lizars with his mini Magic Bullet.
Much more lethal compared to the .357 mm round, the Ravenous Lizards could not even twitch before their consciousness failed them.
Having cleaned up the Ravenous Lizards, he did not forget to take a picture of each of them as he took a glance at his Skill Fragments counter.
[Skill Fragments: Blastoad (47.8), Demon Bunny (59.5), Ravenous Lizard (98), Hideous Frog (6)
Unsurprisingly, the Blastoad remained unmoving and steady. The Demon Bunny rose to a few points on their way here, as well as the Hideous Frog that often appears near the valley’s stream.
The one with the biggest increase was, of course, the Ravenous Lizards that he had just killed.
With the previous increase from the farm yesterday, the Ravenous Lizard grew infinitely closer to the goal of 100 Skill Fragments.
With 50 Skill Fragments at his disposal, Desther came to realize that he would actually be able to get two new skills today if he so wished.
The Ravenous Lizards only lack 2 fragments, while the Demon Bunny still needs 40.5. All in all, the two would only consume a total of 42.5 Skill Fragments.
Unfortunately, Desther was not planning to use them in these two.
These were low-level creatures that surely had just low-level skills.
The 50 Skill Fragment awarded by the title were precious. An item that could not be easily obtained. Using them on Tier 0 monsters seemed a bit wasteful in his opinion.
The valley was full of Ravenous Lizards and Demon Bunny as well. Sooner or later, Desther would be able to reach the goal of 100.
Aside from this, Desther also earned a staggering amount of 1% experience points from killing all those Ravenous Lizards.
For now, though, they must continue forward and try to search for the missing shadow monster.
Lexie walked side by side with Desther as they moved deeper to the valley as planned.
Her thoughts wandered to the battle she witnessed earlier.
Although faint and hidden beneath the salvo of bangs, she could still tell how powerful Desther had become in the short period that they had not seen each other.
Her brows were furrowed as she felt a turmoil boil within her heart.
’I need to get stronger...’
The gap she had thought had already dwindled after reaching Tier 1, seemed to have widened even further.
"A few monsters ahead; do you want to fight them?"
Desther suddenly stated as he turned to look at Lexie walking beside him.
He had sensed her battle intent rising since he killed those Ravenous Lizards earlier.
The monsters he detected were not blocking their way, yet he decided to tell her about it, allowing her to decide what their next course of action will be.
The shadow monster was not present. They could spend their whole day searching for it without doing anything either.
To get stronger, they must kill.
The more they killed, the stronger they became.
This was the fundamental law for Combat Professionals. A day without a battle was considered unproductive and a waste of time, especially for those who just entered the ranks of the awakened like the two of them.
Hearing his question, Lexie did not hesitate and immediately nodded her head eagerly.
She was aware that Desther was strong. However, she was not willing to get left behind either.
An S-Grade Awakener, now who obtained her class, was not to be underestimated.
"Follow me then."
Desther took a step forward, and his body shot like an arrow toward the distant location.
Not wanting to get outdone, Lexie used her skill and bolted forward like a raging comet. Her speed was beyond measure, and in no time, she caught up to Desther with ease.
Her speed was undeniable. She was indeed extremely fast.
Even Desther himself had been surprised at her speed every now and then.
With an overwhelming difference in raw attributes, though, his current speed had been no more than just a normal jog.
Not wanting any trouble, he kept his mouth shut.
And in no time, the two arrived at the location of where Desther detected the monster.
Ahead, a monster the size of a sedan car before the apocalypse lay motionless and unmoving amidst the cacophony of rustling leaves.
The two stopped in their tracks as they observed the monster ahead.
One glance, and the two knew it was not a simple monster.
Now that they were deeper in the valley, it was highly possible that the creature before them was no mere Tier 0 monster, but was instead already at Tier 1, much like the two of them.
"A Crimson Tyrant."
