Chapter 155: All the Candidates In One Place [1]
Gritting his teeth, Zich raised his hand and screamed at the top of his voice.
"Dieeeeee!"
A final Blood Arc erupted at close range.
BOOOOM!
The crimson slash exploded outward from inside the wound. The Marsh Tyrant’s body stiffened violently, then sank heavily into the black water.
The water’s surface churned for a long moment before finally, slowly growing still and silent.
[Field Monster Defeated]
Zich crawled out of the mud, completely drenched, his clothes covered in black filth, waves of pain radiating from his arms and shoulders.
Iron stood behind him, the damage to its pauldron clearly visible.
Slimy lay sprawled beside him, its body limp like a puddle of blue jelly.
This victory had not come easily in the slightest.
But before Zich could even catch his breath, the marsh’s water level suddenly began to drop.
Not far away, a stone platform covered in black mud slowly rose up. Placed upon the platform was a sealed crate.
Zich glanced at it, and his eyes brightened slightly.
But in the next second, he heard footsteps from more than one direction.
At the edges of the fog, several figures appeared one after another.
They had all clearly been drawn over by the red danger marker from earlier and the commotion of the battle.
They saw the injured Zich. They also saw the damaged Iron, the exhausted Slimy, and the crate that had just risen from the mud.
For a moment, no one made a move immediately. But the atmosphere had already grown tense.
Zich slowly straightened up, black water dripping from the hem of his clothes. He looked first at the candidates who had surrounded him, then at the crate behind him, which he was certain contained something useful, and his expression gradually turned cold.
He stood at the edge of the muddy water. Behind him, the supply crate had just fully risen from the stone platform, its surface still stained with black mud. Several faint blue runes were slowly lighting up, as if warning everyone that this item was no ordinary reward.
A total of six candidates had surrounded him.
Two humans, one Velhari, one Sorath, and two who looked like candidates from the Keth races. The commotion from the earlier battle had been too loud, and the red danger marker too conspicuous. As long as one wasn’t too far away, it was hard not to be drawn over.
One of the human candidates looked at the remains of the Blackwater Marsh Tyrant sprawled in the black water, then looked at Zich, his eyes filled with clear wariness.
"You killed a field monster alone?"
Zich shook the black water off his sleeve, his tone calm.
"Also a slime and a knight who nearly sank into the mud."
Slimy lay sprawled beside him, its body limp like a blob of exhausted blue jelly, but upon hearing itself mentioned, it still made an effort to lift its body slightly.
The Velhari candidate sneered coldly, but his gaze fell on the supply crate.
"No matter how you killed it, you don’t look like you have much strength left now."
Zich looked toward him. The Velhari was indeed right. This simulated body of his didn’t truly have much strength left, but he wouldn’t let them know that. Of course, he simply said,
"You can try."
The moment those words left his mouth, the atmosphere instantly tensed.
The Sorath candidate did not speak, merely standing a bit farther away, faint cold energy spreading around him. Clearly, he had already prepared a skill. The other human candidate quietly shifted to the side, intending to cut off Zich’s retreat route.
Zich took in all these movements.
Iron stood behind him, shoulder armor damaged, but its black greatsword was still held steadily. Slimy, though exhausted, still had venom slowly churning within its body. As long as Zich gave the word, it would continue to move.
The Velhari candidate raised the bone blade in his hand, his voice low.
"Leave the crate, and you can go."
Zich glanced at the crate, then at the other party.
"Why should I?"
"Right now, it doesn’t necessarily belong to you."
Zich nodded lightly, as if finding some sense in those words.
"So you intend to rob me?"
The human candidate finally spoke, his tone carrying a hint of probing.
"The first phase doesn’t prohibit competing for supplies. Besides, you’ve already eliminated two people and killed a field monster. If this crate goes to you too, the scores will look terrible."
"So it’s for the sake of fairness."
Zich’s tone held no discernible sarcasm, but precisely because it was so calm, it made the man’s expression stiffen somewhat.
He didn’t rush to act because his current state truly wasn’t good. Iron and Slimy had also expended a great deal of energy. And the six people surrounding him clearly had no intention of giving him time to slowly recover.
However, that didn’t mean he was afraid.
He simply found it troublesome.
He slowly raised his hand, and an inconspicuous black orb appeared.
Though it didn’t emit any aura, the fact that it looked so plain was enough to make the surrounding candidates tense up simultaneously.
The Velhari candidate’s eyes turned cold, shaking off any trace of fear.
"Strike!"
In the next instant, six figures charged toward Zich simultaneously.
Inside the observation hall, the feed that had been about to switch away suddenly halted. Many representatives’ gazes returned to the Blackwater Marsh area. Zich, who had just killed a field monster, had not even had time to open the supply crate before being besieged simultaneously by six candidates.
A representative said in a low voice,
"Now this is more like the elimination phase."
Arthur looked at the feed and said nothing, only his gaze growing slightly heavier.
