Chapter 122: A Farmer???

When Mira Veil stepped onto the arena platform, the atmosphere in the central coliseum did not immediately grow heated. Instead, there was a strange pause.

Many players were still loudly discussing Helen, Jaden, and Zich, but when they saw a girl wearing a farmer’s hat and plain light-colored clothes step onto the stage, their expressions all turned strange. The cloth bundle in her arms had already been untied, revealing a long-handled weapon shaped like a scythe. It did not look like a weapon for battle, but more like a farm tool taken straight from a field.

"Who is that?"

"Maybe she is a hidden expert?"

"Dressed like that?"

Laughter quickly spread through the stands.

But Mira showed no reaction. She simply took off the wide farmer’s hat, placed it gently at the edge of the platform, then gripped the scythe’s handle with both hands and stood quietly in the center of the arena.

Her expression was very calm, so calm it did not seem like she was being watched by thousands of people.

Her opponent was a young swordsman, dressed in light armor, holding a slender and sharp battle sword. He looked at Mira with an obviously easy smile, as if the outcome of the match had already been decided from the start.

The host’s voice rang out quickly.

"Next match, Mira Veil versus Kahn Reis."

Their information appeared on the light screen.

[Mira Veil]

[Class: Farmer]

The moment those two words appeared, the arena fell silent for a breath.

The next second, an even louder burst of laughter erupted.

"A farmer?"

"She really is a farmer?"

"They let a farmer participate in the Chosen Ones preliminaries? Has the Association lost its mind?"

"Where did she even come from? I’ve never heard this name before."

Even as waves of mockery rolled through the audience, Mira’s shoulders did not move at all. She did not look like someone being treated this way for the first time. She looked more like someone already used to being looked down on.

On the arena platform, Kahn raised his battle sword and smiled. "I’ll try to end this quickly. If you surrender now, at least you won’t embarrass yourself too badly."

Mira looked up at him, her gaze bored.

"Can we start?"

Kahn’s smile froze. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

The host immediately announced the beginning of the match.

"Begin!"

Kahn almost instantly rushed forward as soon as the voice fell.

He was not slow, and his footing was steady. His battle sword came slashing down diagonally from the right, clearly intending to suppress Mira as fast as possible. In his view, dealing with a farmer class did not require much testing.

Mira did not retreat far. She only shifted half a step to the left, causing Kahn’s sword to miss.

His eyes changed slightly, and he immediately twisted his wrist to slash horizontally, trying to force Mira back into place. Yet Mira pressed down on the shaft of her scythe, hooking the edge of his blade perfectly and pulling at the same time.

Kahn’s balance tilted at once. He did not fall, but his footing was thrown off.

Mira seized that instant to close in, and the end of the scythe’s handle tapped lightly against his wrist.

Pa!

The sound was very soft.

But Kahn’s fingers visibly trembled, and the battle sword almost flew out of his hand.

The laughter in the stands began to die down.

Kahn’s expression darkened. He forcibly pulled his sword back and stabbed three times in a row, much faster than before. But Mira still did not use any flashy skill. She simply blocked, hooked, pressed, and pulled with the scythe.

Every movement was absurdly simple, and yet every one landed at exactly the right moment before Kahn could fully apply his force.

In just over ten seconds, Kahn’s attack rhythm had already become disordered.

Watching from the stands, Zich’s interest grew even stronger.

"It’s not orthodox martial skill," he murmured. "It looks like movements adapted from manual labor."

Mira’s every swing did not resemble a combat technique taught in an academy. Her actions looked more like cutting grass, turning soil, pulling rope, harvesting, rough but very practical.

Kahn clearly noticed that he was being led out of rhythm.

"That’s enough!"

He shouted angrily, a faint white glow erupting around him. His battle sword’s speed suddenly increased, and he charged straight at Mira, clearly intending to rely on combat skill to overpower her.

This time, Mira finally used her class ability.

Her heel lightly touched the arena floor.

A few tiny seeds dropped from her shoe into the cracks in the stone.

In the next instant, thin roots sprouted from the ground. They did not directly attack Kahn. They only wrapped around his ankle for a single moment.

Only a single moment.

But for someone charging at high speed, that was already fatal.

Kahn’s body lurched forward.

Mira’s scythe handle was already across the back of his legs. She pulled.

BOOM!

Kahn was slammed to the ground again, his chest hitting the arena floor with a heavy thud.

The stands finally grew much quieter. Kahn gritted his teeth and got up, his face no longer carrying any smile.

"What did you do?"

"Farming," Mira answered calmly.

That answer made the entire arena fall silent again. Zich almost laughed.

Kahn was thoroughly enraged now, his face red like an apple. He no longer underestimated Mira and began moving around her, trying to find an opening from the side. But soon he realized that certain places in the arena were no longer safe to step on.

Whenever he tried to accelerate, tiny roots would emerge from the ground beneath his feet.

Each time they delayed him by only half a beat.

Each time they shifted his step just a little.

After enough repetitions, his offense was completely distorted.

Seeing this peculiar scene, new discussions started in the stands.

"A farmer class can be used like that?"

"She’s not attacking. She’s disrupting his footwork."

"That control is ridiculous."

"Where did she come from? Why has nobody heard of her before?"

"I heard a rumor. In the outer city’s resource fields, there’s a girl who often keeps watch alone. When monsters attacked the grain area, she held off an entire pack of beasts by herself."

"The resource fields? So she’s always been outside the shelter?"

These words reached Zich’s ears.

His gaze toward Mira became even more serious.

The farmer class was not weak.

At the very least, Mira’s farmer class was not weak.

Her strength was not burst power, nor direct head on exchanges, but terrain control and rhythm disruption. On an arena platform, that was already troublesome. On a real battlefield, any forest, grassland, mud, or farmland, any place where seeds could be planted, would become her battlefield.

Kahn was already getting anxious. The white glow around him intensified again, and a current of wind swirled around his battle sword.

It was time to use his strongest attack and end this fight.
