Chapter 898: Chapter 878: Only Married to Share One Room

Zaizai was still a little disappointed, but he seemed to understand something. He stayed silent.

Gan Xinxin hugged her teddy bear, curious: "Why can’t boys and girls live in the same room?"

Gan Xinxin was even younger than Zaizai. As the Gan Family’s little Princess, she was always closely protected and utterly naive, knowing very little about the world. Jiayi smiled and explained: "Only when boys and girls grow up and get married can they live in the same room."

Gan Xinxin, quick to connect the dots, turned her head and said to Zaizai: "That’s easy. In the future, I’ll marry Brother Ting, and then we can live in the same room."

Jiayi felt a bit awkward and quickly asked the servants to take Gan Xinxin to her room to sleep. Once the two Little Baozi were each tucked away into bed, she let out a breath of relief.

The two little troublemakers were at an age where they were endlessly curious and energetic. It was clear that her busy days at Disheng were just beginning.

After seeing the lights in the kids’ room dim, she was about to head back to her bedroom when she noticed Huo Zhenyang had somehow returned without her realizing. He was currently at the bend in the staircase, having just come upstairs.

"What’s wrong? Tired?" He walked over and lightly lifted her face, frowning. "You’ve only had one more child to manage, and you’re already this worn out. What would you do if there were more?"

"Yeah, having Xinxin here really multiplies the chaos with Zaizai. You have no idea how noisy they are, endlessly curious about everything and full of questions. I’m starting to regret agreeing to let Zaizai bring Xinxin here to play." She yawned.

He teased: "Letting the old General Gan’s little granddaughter stay for a bit isn’t a bad idea. It gives you a chance to practice how to handle a daughter in advance." 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺

She understood the meaning behind his words and felt her face flush.

This man’s mindset was entirely opposite to Little Baozi. Zaizai was always going on about wanting a little brother, while Huo Zhenyang was dead set on wanting a baby girl this time. He even said the ideal scenario was for her to look like Jiayi, and he could spoil their little Princess like crazy.

But wasn’t *she* the one who would actually have to give birth?

The two of them were like a tug-of-war—one wanting a little brother, the other wanting a little sister—completely ignoring her feelings.

Early morning, at the Cantonese Restaurant near the hospital.

Qiao Yongyong carried a basket of salted egg yolk custard buns and soybean milk, leaving the restaurant and heading back to the hospital.

Jiayi had mentioned before that Brother Yixiao loved salted egg yolk custard buns.

Yesterday, she overheard the hospital nurses saying the nearby Cantonese Restaurant made particularly good ones, which sold out at the takeaway window before eight every morning.

She had gotten up while it was still dark, making sure to line up while Nie Yixiao was still asleep. After waiting laboriously until her back ached and her feet were sore, she finally managed to buy some.

Looking down at the custard buns in her hands, a smile tugged at the corner of her lips. Brother Yixiao had been eating hospital meals for days now; he was probably completely fed up with them. When he saw this, he would have to be happy, wouldn’t he?

She’d been taking care of Nie Yixiao in the hospital for five days now.

During these five days, Nie Yixiao’s attitude toward her had grown icier by the day.

Even colder than before.

Her smile froze slightly at the thought. She took a deep breath to compose herself, then walked to the ward door and pushed it open.

The bed was empty. No one was there.

Thinking Nie Yixiao was already awake, she didn’t find it odd. "Brother Yixiao, I brought your favorite salted egg yolk custard buns..."

Her voice trailed off. The bathroom door was wide open, but there was no one inside.

Her heart sank. She quickly walked over to the cabinet, yanked it open, and saw that the clothes and luggage bag were gone.

She froze for several seconds, still holding the custard buns and soybean milk, then suddenly darted out of the ward and went toward the nurses’ station. "Where did the patient from Room 306 go?"

"Oh, he was discharged... just left a short while ago. Hey, weren’t you the one accompanying him these past few days? Didn’t he tell you?" The nurse seemed perplexed.

Qiao Yongyong bit her lip. He had checked out of the hospital without even telling her.

But then again, he didn’t necessarily need to inform her.

Her staying to take care of him in the first place had been entirely her own choice.

After a moment of silence, Qiao Yongyong darted out of the hospital.

On the roadside outside the hospital, she spotted a familiar tall figure carrying a luggage bag, standing next to an SUV.

The driver was one of his bodyguards, probably having come to pick him up after discharge.

Seeing him just about to get in the car, Qiao Yongyong quickly ran over. "Brother Yixiao!"

Nie Yixiao turned his head to look at her indifferently. His gaze landed briefly on the custard buns and soybean milk she was holding.

The girl’s stunned expression had lost all its usual fiery confidence, leaving her looking at a loss.

His eyes flickered, then cooled immediately. Without saying a word, he bent down and stepped into the car.

"Brother Yixiao—" She tugged at Nie Yixiao’s sleeve, holding back the sting in her nose. "What did I do wrong?"

She didn’t understand why he was treating her this way.

He didn’t mind that she was a Mafia Gang girl, didn’t he? Was he not always worried about her safety, even saving her life at times? Why, then, did he want to keep her at arm’s length now?

Nie Yixiao pried her hand off, his tone distant: "I’m already fully recovered. I’ve completed my discharge; you should head back soon as well."

"Why didn’t you at least say something..."

"I never asked you to stay in the hospital and take care of me. It was all your own decision. I don’t think I need to report every little detail to you." He tossed his luggage onto the back seat, climbed in himself, shut the door, and ordered coldly, "Drive."

"Wait!" She knew she couldn’t stop him, but forced a smile onto her face despite it all.

He didn’t look at her, instead keeping his eyes locked straight ahead. His handsome profile, sharply defined as if carved from stone, was tinged with impatience. "What now?"

She handed the custard buns and soybean milk through the car window. "You haven’t had breakfast yet. Your injury is just recovering; you can’t go hungry."

Nie Yixiao glanced at the steaming breakfast she carefully placed on the seat. His brow furrowed slightly. "Drive!"

The car pulled away.

As the vehicle suddenly moved forward, Qiao Yongyong staggered back, nearly falling, before steadied herself. She took a deep breath and watched the car ahead.

It wasn’t but a few moments later that a hand extended out from the car window, throwing her soybean milk and custard buns onto the asphalt!

The soybean milk spilled everywhere, and the custard buns rolled across the ground, shining under the rising sun.

She froze, standing there a moment too long, before turning around and retreating back inside the hospital with a heavy heart.

Two days later.

Night had fallen, and the weather had suddenly turned, with torrential rain pouring down.

After arranging for the two Little Baozi to eat dinner and head back to their rooms to play with toys, Jiayi finally got a moment to herself.

Sitting comfortably on the living room sofa, she was just about to pull out her laptop to work on her design sketches when her phone buzzed.

Huo Zhenyang had finished his work in the study and was wandering the house looking for her when he came downstairs and saw her hugging her phone absentmindedly, as if she’d just finished a call. He frowned: "Who was on the phone?"

Jiayi snapped out of her daze. "It was Brother Yixiao."
