As Lassim approached the village, the familiar structures began to come into view, though his surroundings blurred slightly due to the incredible speed at which he was traveling.
Slowing his pace, he carefully managed the energy surging within him, not wanting to alarm anyone with his sudden appearance or the crackling aura now surrounding him.
The villagers, going about their daily routines, noticed his arrival first. Their initial reactions ranged from curious glances to outright shock as they saw his transformed appearance.
His deep, velvety blue hair and the bright violet eyes, occasionally sparking with miniature bolts of electricity, were unlike anything they had seen before.
A group of village guards, standing by the entrance, stepped forward cautiously. "[Who goes there?]" one of them called out, his voice a mix of authority and uncertainty.
Lassim raised his hands in a calm gesture, his voice steady. "[It’s me, Lassim. I’ve returned.]" The guards exchanged confused glances but did not lower their weapons immediately.
The transformation in his appearance and the powerful aura he radiated made it hard for them to reconcile this being with the boy they had known.
One of the guards, a younger Drow named Teresa, stepped forward hesitantly. "[Lassim? Is that really you? You look... different.]"
Sanvra, alerted by the commotion, hurried to the scene. Her eyes widened in shock as she took in Lassim’s new appearance. "[Lassim! What happened to you?]" she exclaimed, her voice filled with a mix of concern and amazement.
Lassim smiled nonchalantly. "[It’s me, Sanvra. I just went through my breakthrough to the Spirit Transformation stage. These changes are a part of that.]" He gestured to his hair and eyes, the sparks of electricity emphasizing his point.
The guards, now convinced, lowered their weapons.
The tension in the air dissipated as they welcomed him back, albeit with a sense of awe. "[Welcome back, Lassim,]" Teresa said, her voice reflecting the collective relief of the villagers.
As Lassim made his way towards his cabin with Sanvra by his side, they passed by one of the village elders, an elderly woman named Maestra.
"[Child...come closer,]" Maestra called out softly, her voice trembling as she inhaled deeply as she embraced him. "[May we stay like this for a moment? The smell of the rain... it reminds me of before we came to this place. It brings back memories of my childhood, of a time before the eternal snow.]"
Lassim’s heart softened at her request. He returned the gesture by gently embracing her as well, feeling the vestiges of her nostalgia. "[Of course, Maestra. It’s good to see you too.]" He held her for a moment, letting her tears soak into the fur collar of his jacket.
Sanvra watched the scene with a smile. Despite the transformations and the challenges they faced, the bond within their community was growing stronger.
Lassim settled into his cabin, the warmth of the enchanted fireplace providing enough heat for him to take off his snow covered gear.
Sanvra joined him, her expression curious and contemplative as they sat down to discuss their next steps.
"[Lassim, after everything that happened with Faelan, how do you propose we address the underlying fears and worries he had? Have you thought about what we should do?]" Sanvra asked, her voice carrying the weight of their recent challenges.
Lassim leaned forward, his eyes thoughtful. "[I’ve been thinking about that. What if we hold a celebration to mark the connection of the roadways between our villages? We can build a special area between them where everyone can gather.]"
Sanvra’s eyes lit up with interest. "[A celebration? That could be a great idea. It would help lift spirits and reinforce our unity. What do you have in mind?]"
"[We’ll clear out the snow and ask Master Tolen to prepare enough barrier poles to set up a safe area]," Lassim explained. "[With a return of the wildlife population that’s now thriving from the cleansing, we could hunt a few beasts and give everyone some fresh, non-dried meat meals. It would be the first time in decades for many to have fresh cooked meat instead of jerky.]"
Sanvra nodded, her icy white eyes beginning to sparkle with enthusiasm. "[That sounds wonderful. It would be a welcome change for everyone. And we could also include some music and dancing to make it a proper celebration.]"
Lassim smiled, "[Exactly. But more importantly, I want to share stories about Nexaria. I want to tell everyone what I’m trying to get back to and hopefully bring them along. If we can leave this plane, I’ll take them to my home. If I share stories about what it’s like in Nexaria, it might abate some of their concerns and have something to look forward to.]"
Sanvra’s eyes softened with understanding. "[That would mean so much to them, my star. Hearing about your experiences and the world you come from could inspire them and give them something to look forward to. I have seen your memories and it should change the minds of individuals like Faelan if they too could see or hear about what it’s like.]"
Lassim nodded.
With their plan set, they spent the next few days organizing the celebration. Master Tolen and his apprentices worked tirelessly to prepare the necessary barrier poles and clear the snow from the chosen area.
The community buzzed with excitement as preparations took shape.
Finally, the day of the celebration arrived.
A central area along the protected pathways between the villages, now enclosed by the barriers, was transformed into a vibrant gathering space.
Long tables were set up, laden with freshly cooked game, and vegetables and fruits grown in the underground gardens that were not flourishing under the cleansed mana.
The aroma of roasted meat filled the air, a scent many had not experienced in years.
As the community gathered, the atmosphere was charged with anticipation and joy. Drow musicians played lively tunes on their traditional instruments, their music mingling with the laughter and chatter of the villagers.
The barriers hummed softly, providing a safe haven for the festivities.
Lassim stood before the crowd. He took a deep breath and began to speak, his voice carrying across the gathering.
"[Thank you all for coming]," he began, his gaze sweeping over the faces of the villagers. "[Today, we celebrate not just the connection of our roadways, but our resilience and unity. We’ve come a long way, and I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished together.]"
The crowd cheered, their spirits lifted by his words.
"[Recently, some of you have expressed their fears and worries about all of the changes that are being made and what I’m trying to accomplish by helping cleanse the corruption. I really just want to go home. I have friends and family that I haven’t heard from and I want them to know that I’m okay.
I also still have dreams and other goals that I wish to accomplish, but it starts first with getting back there. So, with that said, I want to share with you a bit about the world I come from, Nexaria]," Lassim continued.
"[It’s a place full of wonders and opportunities, a world where we can thrive and live without the constant threat of corruption. We do have our own existential threat, but there’s so many strong individuals like my father, my mentors and my masters that help protect everyone. I grew up in a village much like ours, surrounded by family in the Vanthar estate.]"
He spoke of his childhood, painting vivid pictures of his home, the lush forests, and the vibrant, but cozy town market.
He recounted his experiences at the academy, describing the friendships he had forged and the challenges he had overcome during the abyssal legion’s invasion.
He told them about the martial tournament, the excitement of the battles, and the joy of winning against that month’s champion.
As he shared his stories, the villagers listened with rapt attention in between bites of food and swigs of their drinks, their faces reflecting a mixture of awe and longing. Lassim’s tales brought a glimpse of hope and possibility, a vision of a future beyond their current existence.
After Lassim finished his storytelling, he joined the crowd and began answering questions individually as some approached him with curiosity.
Faelan, standing among them, felt a pang of guilt for what he had done and determination to apologize.
He stepped forward, his voice sincere. "[Lassim, I’m sorry for the trouble I caused. Your stories have shown me the bigger picture, and I want to be part of it. I want to see Nexaria, and taste that wind-fish scale candy you mentioned in that Golden Lotus River place.]"
Lassim smiled warmly at Faelan and nodded. "[Thank you, Faelan. Your actions put a lot of people in danger, so I hope you can work harder to make it right. However, your courage to speak up and apologize shows your good nature. Don’t worry too much and let’s just help each other. Together, we can achieve anything.]"
The celebration continued.
The villagers enjoyed the feast, savoring the taste of fresh cooked meat and other delicacies that had been absent from their tables for so long.
Musicians continued to play their lively tunes, and some villagers began to dance, their movements filled with joy and hope.
As the evening progressed, atmosphere and everyone’s energy grew. Lassim continued to move through the crowd, sharing other anecdotes and answering more questions about Nexaria.
The villagers’ curiosity and excitement were palpable, their imaginations ignited by the possibilities that lay ahead.
As the celebration drew to a close, the villagers gathered around a large bonfire.
The flames of a bonfire they had lit in the middle of the clearing danced in the night, casting a warm glow across their faces.
Lassim stood with Sanvra, watching the scene with a sense of fulfillment.

"[I believe we’ve taken a big step forward today and inspired many among us]," Sanvra said, her voice filled with pride. "[This was a wonderful idea, my star. The community needed this. They needed to see what we are working towards and to believe in a better future like I was able to through your memories. I praise Khaalseru and your gods for sending you to us.]"
Lassim nodded, feeling the same sense of accomplishment. "[Yes, and this is just the beginning. We have a long journey ahead, but together, we will get out of here.]"
