Chapter 637: Stubborn Station Head
The next few days passed by in a blur. They managed to isolate the system that they entered to obtain materials. After only a day of taking down defenses the liberation unit was alerted and Jace was treated to the show that was the liberation unit’s counter invasion.
Suffice to say... It was underwhelming. Two warships, both of which looked hobbled together and more like massive transports rather than space crafts designed for war. They turned out to be old ships that were retrofitted in a rush to operate as part of the military’s invasion unit.
They swarmed into the system and sent out plenty of troop transports, mechs, and fighter craft to the planets on the edge of the system. He only stayed long enough to see them fire off several nukes toward the main planet. Once he saw that he knew that dozens of thousands of innocent lives would be lost.
They finished creating a few drone fighter craft and delivered a single specially designed fighter craft to Salem. She refused any more. Reminding him of the possible danger of the military and government attempting to reverse engineer his technology. But Jace was not as worried.
For some reason he knew the path they were on would be fine. He spent some of his free time with Salem. Some of his free time making plans and some of his free time catching up and talking with Gorund Velwrench. The dwarf that probably should have been in the Underworld System but apparently got caught behind enemy lines over a year ago. He was a bit out of touch but was well aware of what happened before.
Jace was only given a summary but as soon as he disappeared along with the others. A flurry of activity occurred. Starting with infighting among the nations but that quickly ceased when the dark elves and the plague nano machines took over the north part of the galaxy and the Oda Empire.
After the empire fell, the Victorium established the need for a galactic group and the other nations mostly agreed. Some of the others did not but they had already fallen in the last few years while the changed Victorium was now a galactic spanning nation. It helped that Salem and others had been able to collapse the Imperium.
With them collapsed it left a power vacuum that the Victorium willingly started to feel and other human nations started to join them and the Victorium renamed itself and changed but kept its current power structure. Which was a governing council, a military council, and MILD which had replaced the elder council back when the Vexical Empire joined them.
Now after a few years they were in a semi stable condition. Gorund had not been around for the stabilization. But Jace had learned a lot of the stabilization was due to external attacks and the reveal of high level politicians and nobles attempting to cooperate with foreign galaxies. Which the Cerberus Unit had put an end to quickly.
The effect of which turned the Cerberus Unit into folk heroes for the common people. Apparently it was spiraling so much out of control that the political sphere of the Spectre Galaxy Government could not strike back without worrying about pushback from civilians and the people. Salem had not seen it herself but there were three big ’heroes’ in the eyes of the people.
The first was the Cerberus Unit. The second was Jace’s group who disappeared after providing information about the mortella and weaknesses that have been a great help, they typically called them the Hybrid Elite. Then the third and final group was the Spectre Special Operations Unit which was just Dahlia Dakota’s unit that were made of mostly evolved humans and various alien races. Its diversity made it popular among all races that they now had in this galaxy.
Now they were arriving in the Sister System where they would be leaving all of the refugees they picked up along the way. The space morphed as they arrived inside the system. A short distance away from the space station orbiting Sister Prime.
The moment they arrived they received panicked communications because their stealth systems were currently disabled and from their point of view. A cruiser sized space craft just appeared out of nowhere. West in her position at the communications station was shocked by the amount of warnings she immediately received.
"Jace, they are saying we are in violation of the Spectre Galaxy Government’s travel laws. We did not use the correct route." West explained in confusion. The concept was foreign since her galaxy did not have nearly as much travel. So the idea of specified travel lanes was not something she understood.
"Put me on." Jace told her with a sigh as he sat in the pilot’s chair. West gave a thumbs up. "This is Agent Jace Wintry, currently captaining the classified military cruiser Lance of Thanatos. We are dropping off refugees. There should have been a notice ahead of time. You have five minutes before we land planetside and let the refugees off there." Jace informed the person on the other end.
There were a few minutes of silence before a young voice responded. "Um... standby." The voice declared after there were only two minutes left.
Jace sighed and adjusted the course of the Lance so they could land outside of a city in a large plot of uninhabited land. It would take them past the station.
"Lance of Thanatos, this is the station head. You will dock at the station, dock R9 and will submit to an inspection." The station head declared, they sounded significantly older. A human in maybe their fifties.
"We will dock at R9 but we will not submit to an inspection. Any attempt to inspect the Lance of Thanatos will be treated as insubordination and an attack." Jace announced. "Any attempt to prolong our stay beyond dropping off refugees will be treated as insubordination as well."
"You are a mere agent of MILD, I am the head of station here. On what grounds would it be insubordination? You will submit to an inspection." The station head insisted as Jace adjusted the course of the Lance to go to the station.
"We will not. The only people that can give me orders are the Director of MILD, the High Priestess, and a unanimous decision by the governing council. Any other orders by others are considered as suggestions. This is one I will not accept." Jace declared as the cruiser moved quickly into position. He made a hand motion to have West get the refugees ready and have the others be ready near the departing route in case the station head tried to do something.
There was a minute of quiet as West scoffed. "They muted themselves. I muted us as well. I am reading a long range communication coming from the station."
"He is asking his superior for a course of action." Jace explained. "They will insist he try to delay. I will remind him he cannot." Jace informed them. "Have the refugees ready. I want to be away within the next five minutes. It would take longer than that for someone to hastily set up a full governing council."
"They could try lying." Shilla reminded him.
"It doesn’t matter if they do. Unless I receive specific orders directly to me through our communication station. There is nothing they can do. It is part of the reason I am acting as the commanding officer." Jace reminded them.
"But do they realize that?" Valkyrie asked in surprise.
"I have a feeling they are about to learn about my form of politics." Jace grinned as he lined up and extended a bridge to dock with the station. "Victor and Shinobi are up. Make sure no one stays and no one else tries to board." Jace reminded her as the docking clamps showed a green so it was activated.
There was silence before the station head spoke again. "Agent Jace. I have just spoken to a representative of the governing council. You are to hold here until a ruling is made with the council." The station head declared. He stopped communicating a minute ago over the long range communication, so he was clearly told to try and delay them.
"Negative, station head." Jace chuckled once West signaled he was good to talk. "That is not how that works. Aside from a unanimous order from the governing council, I will continue my mission from before." Jace declared and then looked over as Valkyrie made some hand motions, indicating that they were moving space craft.
There was another minute of silence before the station head responded. "Very well, but we do insist you take the proper routes."
"Negative, station head." Jace shook his head. "Our form of propulsion surpasses all possible routes."
They heard a fraction of a curse before it was cut off and they looked over at West who smirked and shrugged. "They muted him as soon as he started cursing. The signal is not exactly private."
