Chapter 1006: Chapter 289: Poison

After tossing Zhen’s corpse away, An Wuping suddenly fell to his knees and slowly collapsed to the ground.

He kept making sounds of blood being stuck in his throat unable to be spat out, and sounds of trying to breathe.

However, under Zhen’s final attack, An Wuping’s lungs were clearly torn apart, and breathing became a luxury.

It seemed like life was about to leave An Wuping.

From quite a distance away, Thousand Faces coldly watched An Wuping; the sincere smile he often wore on his face had completely disappeared.

Because the blood and flesh scattered from Zhen’s corpse were merely products of dimensional infection influence.

They were still alive, but Zhen was indeed dead.

Thousand Faces and Zhen had known each other for many years.

Seeing a known person’s death nearby, even he found it hard not to be emotionally affected.

Even if An Wuping beside him seemed ready to accompany Zhen in death, he couldn’t ease the anger in his heart.

Moreover, he didn’t feel at all that An Wuping was truly going to die.

He was well aware of An Wuping’s powerful recovery ability and his ruthlessness towards Zuo Jing.

And until now, An Wuping still hadn’t used the ability that could burn a large chunk of planetary land into glass.

If he were An Wuping, he would at least use that ability before dying.

Of course, Chen Ming was actively controlling An Wuping as he fell to the ground, even purposely suppressing the recovery ability granted by the Insect Queen’s spiritual energy, to avoid recovering too quickly to make the faking look unconvincing.

But to be fair, the immediate massive damage caused by Zhen’s face-to-face release of that internal vibration on An Wuping was indeed frightening.

At least, most of An Wuping’s internal organs were truly shattered.

But with the Insect Race core intact, An Wuping wouldn’t die.

The reason he spat out some blood and organ fragments before kneeling in place pretending to be dead.

One reason was to lure Thousand Faces, so when he approached to confirm the death, he could suddenly attack.

The other was, just as An Wuping was knocked down, the president who had gone to handle matters suddenly returned, and even made a call to Chen Ming.

In the phone call, the president briefly mentioned Cai Mo’s situation.

He said the Empire had thoroughly understood Cai Mo’s situation, and classified all behaviors causing chaos and attacking the Fifth Legion as rebellion.

Moreover, they were aware of the Beinu Star Realm issue and had ordered the emergency deployment of the Fourteenth Legion’s main ship to confront it.

But while saying these seemingly unproblematic words, the president’s tone was indeed problematic.

Clearly, this should be good news.

Yet after hearing Chen Ming’s question, the president appeared disappointed and said:

Whether it’s good depends on what follows.

Then he asked Chen Ming’s fleet to maintain distance from the few star systems where incidents occurred before hanging up the phone.

Judging from the president’s words, Chen Ming estimated that the president might have gone to a meeting with the Imperial Government and the Fifth Legion.

Perhaps some unfavorable decisions were passed in the meeting, hence the president’s demeanor.

Just thinking about the possibility of such situations happening, Chen Ming also felt a sense of foreboding.

Thus, he allocated a bit more attention to his fleet.

However, primarily, he still needed to resolve the matter with Thousand Faces.

Unfortunately, Thousand Faces wasn’t falling for it, even though Chen Ming controlled An Wuping to remain still on the ground, Thousand Faces kept a considerably safe distance.

At the same time, three ice cones with strength enough to penetrate An Wuping’s shell appeared behind Thousand Faces, aimed at An Wuping.

In the blink of an eye, three ice spears pierced An Wuping’s left chest, brain, and neck spine.

During this process, An Wuping did not move at all.

Even the fluctuation of spiritual energy dissipated, appearing no different from death.

But Thousand Faces still didn’t give up probing, a large number of ice spears gathering around him, seemingly insisting on shattering An Wuping.

Chen Ming wouldn’t accommodate him, nor was he willing to waste time.

He had just faked death to answer a phone call meanwhile attempting to lure a fish.

If Thousand Faces didn’t take the bait, he’d continue heading underground.

For a while now, the danger sensed from underground had been escalating, and the Host was likely soon to accomplish his tasks.

Suddenly, An Wuping stood up briskly with three ice cones lodged in his forehead, heart, and neck, pulling them out one by one and crushing them.

The spiritual energy fluctuation entwined around him, and all his injuries were rapidly healing.

"You are indeed still alive."

Thousand Faces’ voice caught Chen Ming’s attention briefly, but Chen Ming merely glanced over before turning to condense plasma in his fist.

An Wuping’s indifference caused Thousand Faces’ heart to feel pierced.

Like desperately wanting to attract someone’s attention, but that person only focused every attention on their affairs.

Thousand Faces was now utterly helpless.

Previously half-dead from Chen Ming’s blows and losing the chance to collaborate with Zhen, his tactics genuinely couldn’t threaten An Wuping anymore.

He suddenly sighed, retrieved a handful of Heart-Gathering Spirit Pearls from his clothes pocket.

One hand couldn’t entirely hold them, and many spilled onto the ground.
