Chapter 319: Chapter 319: Instructions
Cheng Beilin cried for a good while before finally stopping her tears. She whispered to Du Haoran, "This isn’t a good place, and the experiments they’re doing aren’t any good either. You can’t be trapped here. If you get a chance, just run. Don’t worry about me for now."
"No." Du Haoran’s rejection was instinctual. ’How could I possibly leave Cheng Beilin here all alone?’
Hearing Du Haoran’s refusal, Cheng Beilin grew anxious. Not daring to speak loudly, she hurriedly whispered, "I don’t have the stamina. If you take me with you, I’ll only drag you down. If that happens, neither of us will get out. Only if you escape, find my parents and my big brother, and have them report this to the police can I be truly safe. They can have the police bust this place. Besides, everything here is meant to harm people. If these guys actually succeed with their experiments, who knows how many people they’ll end up hurting."
"But..." Du Haoran was still worried. ’If I really find a chance and run, those people will fly into a rage and definitely take it out on Cheng Beilin. What if I can’t get back in time to save her...’
Remembering how those men in the small fishing village had eyed Cheng Beilin like tigers stalking their prey, Du Haoran couldn’t feel at ease no matter what.
"Stop hesitating. Remember what I said. Run if you get the chance," Cheng Beilin said anxiously.
"I can’t. I..."
Just as Du Haoran was about to speak, the door to their room suddenly made a soft CLICK.
Instantly, Cheng Beilin and Du Haoran were on high alert, neither daring to say another word. They stared warily at the door, and Du Haoran moved to shield Cheng Beilin behind him.
’Are they back again?’
’Are they here to take Du Haoran to the lab?’ Cheng Beilin clutched Du Haoran’s arm, her heart pounding violently. THUMP-THUMP-THUMP.
The door was pushed open just a crack. Someone slipped into the room and gently closed the door securely behind them before making a hushing gesture toward Cheng Beilin and Du Haoran.
Seeing who it was, both Cheng Beilin and Du Haoran were stunned!
It was Su Qing!
Cheng Beilin’s mouth fell open in astonishment. She never imagined that Su Qing would be here too!
’How did Su Qing get here? Could she have been captured by those people too? But no, that’s not right. From what I saw on the way here, I know how tight the security is. If she was captured, how did she escape their watch to find us?’
’And how did Su Qing know we were captured?’
A series of questions popped into Cheng Beilin’s mind, but she didn’t dare speak. She and Du Haoran were some distance from the door, and she worried that talking might attract the attention of the guards outside.
It wasn’t just Cheng Beilin; Du Haoran was also incredibly surprised. However, he knew from his master that there was more to Su Qing than met the eye. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have been able to venture deep into the mountains alone and gather so many precious medicinal herbs.
Su Qing quietly approached Cheng Beilin and Du Haoran and whispered, "Don’t worry, I’ll get you out. Don’t be scared, and don’t try to fight the people here."
Su Qing’s words brought a small measure of relief to both Cheng Beilin and Du Haoran. To be honest, although they had just been discussing escape, seeing how heavily guarded this place was, they hadn’t held out much hope. It was just wishful thinking, and they had even been preparing themselves for the worst.
But Su Qing’s arrival gave them hope.
Cheng Beilin, worried for Su Qing’s safety, quickly grabbed her hand and whispered, "Qingqing, how did you get here? You weren’t discovered, were you? You should leave quickly, this place is dangerous. Go find the police to rescue us. You definitely can’t handle so many people by yourself. You don’t know—these people are lunatics. They have no humanity at all."
Du Haoran added hurriedly, "That’s right, Beilin is correct. You should leave quickly."
Su Qing smiled and quickly whispered, "Don’t worry. I’m very good at hiding; they won’t find me. Time is tight, so I’ll be brief."
With that, Su Qing turned to Cheng Beilin. "Beilin, you’re not addicted to that... stuff yet, are you?"
Cheng Beilin knew what Su Qing was talking about and quickly nodded. "Not yet."
But deep down, Cheng Beilin was terrified. For the past few days, those people had been constantly injecting her with that stuff, and she knew what it was. Though she wasn’t addicted yet, she could already feel her body changing. She was so scared; she’d heard that once you get addicted, it’s impossible to quit.
Su Qing nodded and said, "The reason they captured you is because someone paid them to get you addicted to that stuff. Don’t worry. As long as you aren’t addicted, you won’t be in any immediate danger."
Then, Su Qing handed Cheng Beilin a small porcelain vial. "If you feel like you’re developing signs of addiction, secretly take some of this powder. It will help alleviate it."
"Okay." Cheng Beilin didn’t ask what powder was in the vial. She trusted Su Qing completely. She immediately took the vial and hid it on her person. "Qingqing, thank you."
Su Qing gave Cheng Beilin a reassuring look, then turned to Du Haoran. "When they tell you to go to the lab, just go. Don’t resist. Don’t worry, I’ll get you both out of here soon."
"Thank you." Du Haoran nodded at Su Qing. "I know what to do. You be careful too."
"Okay, don’t worry."
After exchanging a few more brief words with Cheng Beilin and Du Haoran, Su Qing secretly slipped away again.
The compound was vast, containing not only a plantation but also rows of bamboo buildings and wooden cabins. And there were a lot of people. Some were responsible for farming, others for security, and Su Qing even saw quite a few people in white lab coats.
Su Qing hid in a place with dense vegetation. Using the plants’ perspective, she kept a close eye on the people in white lab coats. She discovered that a cluster of wooden cabins arranged in several rows was the main area where the lab-coated personnel were active.
Soon, Su Qing saw Du Chaoran being led out and taken into that same cluster of wooden cabins.
’I know I could take care of all these people on my own,’ she thought, ’but if I did that, it would seem completely inconceivable to everyone else. Ultimately, these people need to be handed over to the police, and they might even need special forces. If I really handled this all by myself, how would I explain it later?’
’So, it’s best to leave the professional work to the professionals.’
However, Su Qing wasn’t in a hurry to leave. When evening fell, she controlled a climbing vine, making it creep silently up to the window of one of the wooden cabins. A thin tendril snaked through a crack, and when Su Qing saw the scene inside the room, her eyes suddenly widened, and her fists clenched unconsciously.
’This bunch of animals!’
