Chapter 1929: Chapter 1924: Childhood Sweethearts?
"Are you trying to stuff me to death?!"
Glancing at that clay pot bigger than a rice bowl, she shot Hu Xiaobei a huge eye-roll.
In his opinion, finishing the whole thing was really way over the top.
Knowing he really was forcing her a bit, Hu Xiaobei took a step back and gave an awkward chuckle. "Then you don’t have to finish it, but at least drink until you can’t drink anymore. That’s fine, right?"
"No problem!"
She agreed very straightforwardly and took the small bowl Hu Xiaobei handed over.
Hu Xiaobei glanced at her soft pink slender fingers and gently reminded her, "It’s hot, be careful."
Hearing the concern in his voice, a trace of warmth flowed through her heart.
She knew Hu Xiaobei was doing it for her sake, so she was especially moved inside, but out of her mouth she still stayed stubborn. "I’m not a little kid!"
Laughing, Hu Xiaobei spoke solemnly, every word firm, "In my heart, you’ll always be that ponytailed girl who pouted all day and threw little tantrums."
"I did not!"
She shot back quickly, picked up the spoon, lowered her head, and started drinking the fish soup.
Knowing she was embarrassed, Hu Xiaobei didn’t continue that topic, just quietly watched her.
Hu Xiaobei saw her lips part slightly...
"She’s definitely going to be blown away by how this fish soup tastes."
As her lips parted, Hu Xiaobei whispered to himself with absolute confidence.
The next second, he saw her eyes suddenly light up completely.
Knowing she was probably amazed right now, Hu Xiaobei asked in a slightly smug tone, "Well? How’s the fish soup?"
She gave him a glance, then said with great enthusiasm, "More than just okay, it’s absolutely amazing, amazing!"
"If you like it, then drink a bit more. If it’s not enough, I’ll have the kitchen make some more."
She glanced at the clay pot and quickly said, "It’s enough, it’s enough! I can’t drink that much. You should have some too."
"I already ate earlier. You keep drinking, I’m going to step out for a bit. I’ll come back in a while."
Biting her lower lip nervously, she spoke with a hint of panic, "Will you come back?"
Seeing the panic in her eyes, Hu Xiaobei immediately teased, "Duh. If I don’t come back, where else would I go! You think I’m like you? Just up and running off."
"I wanted to talk to you back then, but something urgent came up, so I couldn’t wait for you."
Hearing him bring up the past, she looked at him and spoke seriously.
Back then, she had quietly waited for him under that willow tree, its branches swaying in the wind.
But Hu Xiaobei never showed up.
Helpless, she could only slip away under her family’s repeated urging.
Hearing her anxious explanation, Hu Xiaobei knew she really had her difficulties back then.
Smiling lightly, he said, "I believe you, so I definitely won’t just disappear on you. For now, I’ll step out first."
"Mm, I’ll wait for you to come back!"
"Okay!"
After leaving, Hu Xiaobei went over to Song Yaling’s side.
Pushing open the door to Song Yaling’s office, he saw her in sheer black stockings, lounging lazily on a black leather sofa, flipping through a magazine.
"Every move you make is pure temptation."
Looking at her graceful, seductive figure, Hu Xiaobei couldn’t help but praise from the heart.
"Well now, what a rare guest."
Hearing her tease, Hu Xiaobei dragged his gaze back from her silky long legs and said in surprise, "What rare guest? Didn’t we just chat not too long ago?"
"But now that some people have a new sweetheart, I thought you’d already forgotten all about me."
Feeling a bit guilty, he gave her a quick look, his face puzzled. "What new sweetheart? What are you talking about? I don’t quite get it."
"Don’t get it? Then where are you coming from right now?"
Hearing that slightly annoyed counter, Hu Xiaobei knew she was jealous.
He smiled lightly, walked over to stand in front of Song Yaling, and carefully explained the whole story between him and her.
"Ohhh, so she’s your childhood sweetheart."
The corner of his eye twitched and he quickly clarified, "What are you saying! We just reunited after a long time. The clothes she’s wearing are kind of worn out, so I wanted you to help find her a set to change into."
"No problem. How’s her figure? Her height?"
Thinking for a moment, Hu Xiaobei answered seriously, "She’s about the same height as you, and her figure’s about the same too."
"Wow, you looked that closely?"
"No, I’m just guessing."
"Only a ghost would believe you."
She rolled her eyes at him, then stood up and lazily walked toward the lounge.
Very soon, she came back hugging a brand-new uniform and a black box.
"I had this made before and never got around to wearing it. Have her try it on, see if it fits. If it does, she can just wear it. If not, I’ll go buy her something else."
"I think it should be about right."
After he answered quickly, Hu Xiaobei glanced at the black box she passed him and asked, "What’s in here?"
"Open it and see for yourself."
At her mysterious tone, Hu Xiaobei slowly opened it.
Very soon, his eyes heated up, because he saw a pair of deep purple nylon stockings inside.
Besides that, there were other things as well.
Just as he was about to look a bit more closely, he heard her slightly exasperated teasing.
"You little bastard, let you take a look and you really look, huh!"
He gave a dry laugh and quickly snapped the box shut.
Very quickly, he left.
Watching his figure disappear, she narrowed her eyes. "This little bastard, he really is sentimental."
With that, she lazily sank back onto the sofa and went on flipping through her fashion magazine.
As for who Hu Xiaobei got involved with, she actually didn’t care that much.
She just hoped he wouldn’t forget her.
She knew she’d never be able to get away from that little bastard in this lifetime.
...
When Hu Xiaobei returned to the room again, he found that more than half the fish soup in the clay pot was gone.
"Looks like she really does listen to me."
Chuckling to himself, he heard her ask curiously, "What’s that you’re holding?"
He shook the things in his arms slightly and explained softly, "I went to get you a set of clothes. The ones you’re wearing are too old, hurry up and change out of them."
She shook her head hard. "No need, what I’m wearing is fine."
Already knowing she’d say that, Hu Xiaobei smiled lightly. "But if you want to work here in the future, you’ll have to wear this kind of uniform. You might as well get used to it now."
"Then... fine."
She knew he was right, so she didn’t insist.
"Mm, I’ll leave them here. Once you’re done changing, come find me in the room next door so we can have a proper talk."
"Okay!"
Hearing her agree so readily, Hu Xiaobei carefully set everything down.
After putting them away, he quietly walked out.
When he reached the door, it suddenly occurred to him that he seemed to have forgotten something.
He thought for a moment, then lightly patted his forehead.
"Right, with a full set of uniform like that, you need to match it with high heels. I forgot to grab a pair from Sister Song just now."
Muttering to himself, he was about to call Song Yaling when he suddenly heard the sound of heels—"da-da"—and when he turned his head, he saw Huahua, who had left earlier, come back again...
