Chapter 109: Let’s Drive Off the Attackers at the Church
I ended my conversation with Krelia and Elincia and was heading out of the guard station when an urgent telepathic message came through.
"Boss, emergency!"
An urgent message came from Cromwell, third in rank among the Ten Chick Generals.
"What’s wrong?"
"Six ruffians have appeared at Sister Anri’s church in the southern district. They’re currently intimidating everyone there. They’ve brought weapons like hammers, so there’s a high chance they intend to carry out destruction. Once they begin, we’ll move to use force ourselves."
"Got it. I’m heading there right now too. Make sure at least one of them doesn’t get away."
"Understood."
"What’s wrong?"
Krelia asked, seeing me standing there frozen for a moment.
"Krelia, it looks like some group targeting Sister Anri at the church in the southern district has stormed in, aiming at grabbing the land too. This’ll be quite a haul. Want to make a name for yourself?"
I said it casually, suggesting she come make an arrest.
"Whaaat!? That’s serious! The church in the southern district is quite a distance away! I’ll head out right away!"
Krelia stood up to leave, but I stopped her.
"Are you going by horse, Krelia?"
"Yes, though I only have one horse."
She said, sounding apologetic.
"Then go ahead to the church first. I’ll bring Elincia with me."
"Eh!? Me too?"
"It’ll be better to have two people to confirm the captured thugs, right?"
I said this with a wink.
"I’ll bring her along. Have your subordinates prepare to capture and transport the criminals, then send them to the church."
I told Krelia and Elincia this, then left the station.
"Then I’ll go on ahead!"
Krelia said, leaping onto her horse and galloping off.
"Well then, let’s go too, Elincia."
"Y, yes... by what means, though?"
"Logan."
"Yes, sir!"
He immediately flew in front of me and crouched down.
"C, could it be, we’re riding this giant wolf fang...?"
"That’s right, we’re in a hurry, so hop on quick."
I said this while scooping Elincia up under one arm.
"Hyoe!?"
"Logan, hurry. Take the rooftops. It’s the fastest route."
"Yes, sir!"
Logan leapt sharply and landed on a rooftop.
"Now go!"
"Yes, sir!"
"Hieee!"
I held Elincia sideways in my arms, steadying her. She was screaming, but I decided not to worry about it.
Logan bounded from rooftop to rooftop, flying across the city.
"Uwawawawaaa!"
That day, it was said a woman’s scream echoed through the sky.
"What is the meaning of this, all of you!"
Sister Anri’s voice rang out, filled with anger.
"Ahh, this is what happens when you won’t hand over the deed to the church." "Exactly, it’s your fault we have to wreck this place." "If you’d just given up the church already, none of this would’ve happened."
The thugs said whatever they pleased.
"How dare you say such terrible things!"
Children came out from behind Sister Anri.
"Go home, go home!" "We’ll beat the bad guys up!"
The children’s taunting voices set the thugs off.
"Don’t screw with us! Do it!" "Right!"
The thugs finally raised their large hammers and began smashing the church’s gate and walls.
"Please stop!"
Sister Anri’s anguished cries did nothing to make the thugs stop their destruction.
"Confirmed destructive action by targets. Proceeding to eliminate the threat by force."
Cromwell, third in rank among the Ten Chick Generals, reported this to his boss, Yabe, via telepathy.
"Piyo! Assemble!" "Piyo! One!" "Piyoyo! Two!" "Piyoyoyo! Three!" "Piyoyoyoyo! Four!"
"Piyopipipi! All five present!" "Piyopiyopii! Chick Rangers!"
Five chicks lined up in front of Sister Anri, spreading their wings and striking a pose.
"Eh... little chicks?"
"What are these chicks! Stomp them flat!" "Kill them!" "I’ll turn you into grilled skewers!"
"Piyoyo! Fire!" "Piyoyo! Fire!" "Piyoyo! Fire!" "Piyoyo! Fire!" "Piyoyo! Fire!"
Small flames burst from each of the chicks simultaneously and gathered in the center.
"Piyoyo! Piyoyoyoyo! Combined spell! Mega Fire!"
With a roar, the gathered flames merged into a single massive fireball.
"Gyaa!" "No way!"
The huge fireball struck all six thugs, engulfing them in flames.
"It’s hot!" "Guwah!"
The thugs rolled around, wrapped in fire.
"You bastards... I’ll kill you all!"
The apparent leader, who had managed to put out the flames fastest, stood up and moved to attack. But his feet stopped.
Because a large wolf had just landed softly in front of him, right off the church roof.
"Kill who, exactly...?"
The large wolf, of course, was Logan. For some reason he was carrying Elincia in his arms like a princess carry, radiating a dangerous aura.
I stepped down to the ground, leaving Elincia on Logan’s back.
"What the hell are you! Dropping out of nowhere from the sky!"
"Someone who drops from the sky is either a thief who steals everything, or a hero who saves the heroine. Those are the only two options."
I declared it with total confidence.
"No, Sir Yabe, given my position, a thief would be rather troubling..."
"Then let’s go with hero saving the heroine."
Considering Elincia’s position, I’d go with hero.
"Lord Yabe!"
"Anri chan, are you all right?"
"Yes! The children are safe too!"
"Good. Then all that’s left is cleaning up this trash."
"Who’re you calling trash!"
The thugs tried to act tough, but I released my magical power, laced with killing intent.
"Whoa!"
"You’re the scum who ganged up on Osonosan san and beat her up, aren’t you?"
"So what if we are! We’ll do the same to you!"
The six thugs charged at me all at once.
"Thunder Prison!"
"Gyagyagyagyaa!"
A high level lightning spell, drawing power from Sylphie, the wind spirit. Not just a single strike of lightning, but a powerful spell that binds the target for several seconds like the iron bars of a prison cell made of electricity, all six of them took a direct hit and collapsed, smoke rising off them.
"Sir Yabe! Are you all right!"
What Krelia saw as she rode up on horseback was six thugs collapsed on the ground, sputtering black smoke.
