Chapter 28: The Seer

The System really had the nerve to tell me to correct the course.

Even if she managed to succeed, wasn’t this the original course of the story? Hypothetically, if I intervened and stopped it, wouldn’t that lead to a different outcome?

Unless...it wants that to happen?

And like it had somehow read my thoughts, another notice popped up, like a bribe that I knew I wasn’t supposed to take.

[Reward given in advance]

[Current Balance: 20 CC]

Great, even if I had these credits, I was still in quite a precarious situation.

My legs were threatening to give up on me and the woman in front of me looked like she was waiting for me to die.

Well, mostly because she had spilled the beans and had to make sure that I was dead.

But that was exactly what I wanted, because just a second later...

BANG—!

A physical bullet traveled right through the glass window, slamming straight into the chunk of Red Logicite before—

BOOOM—!

The bullet exploded, completely shattering the crystal into a million pieces. And immediately, I could feel my strength return to me.

"SHIT!"

The woman yelled, but just a second later, another bullet came through. This time, the casing opened, revealing a net inside that wrapped around her body and pinned her against the far wall.

I nearly stumbled the moment I stood up, but forced my legs forward anyway.

The Spell Driver was still lying on the floor.

I grabbed it, raised the barrel, and pressed it right against her forehead before she had the chance to tear herself free.

"Checkmate."

Her face twisted into rage, struggling against the net. "YOU MONGREL! Gghhk—that’s what you were doing the whole time?!"

"Sorry," I shrugged. "Learned from the best."

But her expression twisted into laughter, one that I definitely did not expect at all. "Ha...haha! Whatever, it’s already too late."

"You can capture me here, but we’ll already have it by the time you get there. I’ll be rescued out of prison in no time. And just you wait...I’m coming for you first—Midgard!"

I was inclined to believe her threat, but well, it was hard to when the opposing side is tied up inside a net.

Still, I couldn’t be waste anymore time here.

On cue, Aidan, Grant and the rest of the rescue squad quickly ripped open the closed shutters and ran towards me hurriedly.

"Nolan, you alright?" Aidan said slowly.

"Yeah, but we have a bigger problem on our hands."

"What is it?"

"They want to steal the Mimir Database," I explained, sighing softly as I saw most of the school’s rescue squad flood in the room right after Grant.

"The summit and these kidnappings were both ruses. They want us to spread our forces thin and hit where we least expect it."

"Shit..." Grant cursed under his breath. "It’s only Claire and a few others at the Academy right now."

"Then we better get moving," I nodded, already making my way out of the room.

"Uh...what about her?" Aidan pointed at the woman who was still tied up and trying to break free. "Should we just leave it to Riley?"

"Yeah," Grant nodded once, his call toward the Student Council President going straight to voicemail.

"Claire’s not picking up, something’s amiss for sure."

Quickly, we all rushed toward the nearest exit, which happened to be the one leading into the mall’s docking area.

A few groups were already here, local law enforcement, the medical team, and of course, a bunch of reporters who somehow managed to catch on.

I spotted the group of Astaron cadets and Ygg civilians who were caught in the entire thing. Even if they didn’t fully trust each other just yet, it seemed that the misunderstanding was somewhat handled due to the third party.

Still, public relations wasn’t exactly my forte, so I hopped into one of the military cars awaiting outside with Grant and Aidan.

Though I had to say, heirs of the Nines really were built different. With Grant’s authority, he easily commanded the military forces he brought along while also giving out orders to the relief forces.

’Was this guy actually a student? How old could he actually be, like twenty-one? Twenty-two?

’Damn.’

And in five minutes tops, we were already on the way, driving at max speed back toward Asgard Academy.

Yet the more I thought about it, the more it didn’t really make sense to me.

Why Tina out of all people?

Sure, she had her own vendetta and whatnot with the social hierarchy, and it’s not like I was berating her for it.

But why her? How was she the key to getting access to the Mimir Database when it’s under such strict access?

Hell, I literally had to fight Grant and convince Claire, two heirs of the Nines, in order to even get remote access to it. And it helped that I was of Midgard blood.

What did Tina Valentine have?

But that was when I realized a crucial detail that I never paid attention to...until now.

White Noise as an organization had a few known agents that show up in the game’s story now and then.

And among them, Leon eventually encounters one with blonde hair.

Granted, she had been wearing a mask at the time. And granted, she had gone by the moniker of "Seer."

But that one character always managed to stay one step ahead of Leon, no matter how much he planned.

It really was like she was reading the future.

This happened in a later part of the timeline and I couldn’t be too sure yet, but something in my gut was screaming at me.

One detail kept gnawing at my mind, telling me that everything fit too perfectly.

A blonde character who seemed to know the future. And an angry student who somehow had the capability to steal the best information system in Ygg.

...Was Tina Valentine—

The Seer?
