Chapter 300: Chapter 300

The person outside had a gun!

"Retreat!" Suzy hissed under her breath.

The lock had already been blown apart, and Liam’s front door wouldn’t hold for much longer. The intruder was armed and clearly hostile; they needed to find cover immediately.

Moving in perfect synchronization, the two backed away and scrambled behind whatever cover they could find.

Before they could even draw their own weapons, Liam’s front door was violently kicked open the very next second.

The deafening CRASH sent a shiver through their chests.

Standing in the doorway was a woman in her early thirties, holding a handgun and alertly scanning the apartment. It was the exact same woman who had been sitting beside Ray that day—Ray’s fifth wife, Janine.

Janine wore a black mink coat, her makeup was meticulously done with stark red lips, and her grip on the pistol was rock-solid. Her sharp eyes swept the room, and a flicker of surprise crossed her face when she spotted Aaron.

However, that surprise vanished as quickly as it came.

"There’s actually someone else here," she murmured to herself. "Tsk, doesn’t matter. I’ll take care of everyone in a moment anyway."

One extra person wasn’t going to disrupt her plans.

Having spoken to herself, Janine shifted her gaze to Suzy.

Suzy was half-hidden behind her cover, exposing just enough of her face to clearly see everything happening at the entrance. As Janine stared at her, Suzy sized her up in return, trying to figure out exactly who this intruder was.

"Are you Suzy?" the woman asked, raising an eyebrow.

Her target was a bit unexpected. The woman looked frail and weak, her face so deathly pale she seemed on the verge of fainting at any second. Was she really that dangerous?

"Who are you?" Suzy asked coldly, her eyes locked onto Janine’s face.

It really was someone coming for her! But she was absolutely certain she had never seen this woman before. How did she even know her name?

"Who I am doesn’t matter," Janine replied, offering a contemptuous, mocking smile. "All you need to know is that this world doesn’t welcome you."

With that, Janine pulled the trigger.

BANG!

The gunshot echoed sharply.

The moment she pulled the trigger, however, Janine snapped her aim directly toward Aaron.

She didn’t eliminate Suzy first because, in her eyes, Suzy posed zero threat. The woman looked weak and fragile, likely to pass out at any moment, and lacked any real lethality. Instead, it was the other man in the room who had been staring her down, and he looked like he might have a gun—making him far more dangerous than Suzy.

The priority was to eliminate the man first. Once he was dead, Suzy would be at her mercy.

After weighing her options, Janine didn’t hesitate to fire, catching the two completely off guard.

"You can only blame your own bad luck for seeing what you shouldn’t have. You aren’t making it out alive!"

She fired two consecutive shots at Aaron, fully expecting to take him down right then and there. To her surprise, Aaron’s reflexes were incredibly sharp, and he agilely dodged the oncoming bullets. The rounds zipped past him, harmlessly embedding themselves into his cover.

By now, both Suzy and Aaron were completely hidden.

Janine growled in frustration. This guy clearly knew what he was doing—he was as slippery as an eel to have dodged that!

"Aaron, over here!" Suzy called out hurriedly when she saw him under fire.

Aaron’s cover was just a cabinet; if Janine kept up the pressure, it wouldn’t last long. At such close range, Aaron was highly vulnerable to getting hit.

Since they were allies now, Suzy didn’t want anything to happen to him. Furthermore, this woman was after her, and she refused to let Aaron get dragged down with her.

Suzy immediately leaned out from her cover and fired several shots at the woman, trying to force her back.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

Suzy’s reflexes were incredibly fast. The bullets grazed past Janine, clearly catching her off guard.

She snapped her gaze toward Suzy, her eyes flashing with a cold, sinister light. "You have a gun too?"

She hadn’t noticed the weapon in Suzy’s hand earlier, assuming Aaron was the only armed threat. Now, it was obvious the two of them were equally dangerous.

Janine retreated quickly, using the edge of the doorway as cover to shield herself.

"Come on!"

Having successfully forced Janine back, Suzy barked the command, signaling Aaron to rush to her side while he had the chance. His current position was far too dangerous; the cabinet he was hiding behind was already teetering on the verge of collapse.

Receiving her signal, Aaron bolted toward Suzy’s position. "Alright."

Suzy kept her eyes locked on the doorway. Janine was still lurking there, and every time the woman tried to peek out, Suzy fired two warning shots to keep her pinned down. After a few attempts, Janine stopped probing.

Suzy knew she was still right outside the door, biding her time. Yet, it was precisely those few seconds of suppression that successfully allowed Aaron to reach Suzy’s side.

"You’re bleeding!" Suzy gasped.

Aaron’s forearm was injured. Blood was streaming down his fingertips, dripping onto the floor and leaving splatters of crimson.

"It’s just a scratch from a bullet, nothing serious," Aaron explained softly.

Suzy frowned. "I’ll patch you up after we deal with her. This woman is a handful; we need to be careful."

Aaron nodded. "Right."

He didn’t pay much attention to the wound on his arm. It looked severe, but it was just a superficial injury—hardly life-threatening. If anyone’s condition was serious, it was Suzy’s; her shoulder had been shot clean through before all this.

BANG!

Outside, Janine seemed to have caught the sound of their voices. She leaned out and quickly fired a shot in their direction. Suzy and Aaron immediately returned fire.

Back and forth they went, neither side gaining the upper hand.

Janine had overstrained herself, assuming that having a gun meant she could easily dispose of Suzy. However, through several exchanges, she very nearly succeeded.

The moment Suzy leaned out to counterattack again, Janine fired a shot aimed directly at her face. But before the woman could celebrate, Suzy dodged the bullet.
