Chapter 1468: Chapter 1538: Strike First to Gain the Upper Hand
"What are you thinking about? Why are you smiling so happily?"
Xintong snapped back to her senses. "Nothing. How’s that thing I asked you to do coming along?"
"She got away."
"Got away?" The moment Xintong heard that, she flew into a rage. She had to make sure Zhenzhen died—had to die, and immediately. As long as Feng Zhenzhen was alive for one more day, she wouldn’t be at ease for even a second.
After all, she was the one who let Qin Cuifen out. Back then she’d acted on impulse and the arrangements hadn’t been thorough; if anyone really wanted to investigate, they’d definitely be able to trace it back to her. For all she knew, Grandfather or Housekeeper Xing might already have found out. If word reached Feng Zhenzhen’s ears, that woman would probably hate her to death.
This hidden danger absolutely could not be allowed to remain.
"Joseph, you couldn’t even take care of a cripple, are you a fucking idiot?" Xintong was so furious she was practically breathing fire. "Look at the state she’s in—stuck in the hospital, barely able to move. Killing her should be no harder than crushing an ant."
"Baby, she slipped out. The people I sent ran into someone really tough—they all died, not a single one made it back."
Joseph tried to pull her into his arms, but Xintong flung him off in one sharp motion.
"Impossible. You definitely didn’t send anyone."
"I really did." Joseph swore to the heavens. "It was Housekeeper Xing who personally handled her discharge paperwork. She’s already out of the hospital now."
"Damn it." Xintong cursed under her breath. Exactly what she’d feared had come to pass.
If she’d known, she would’ve moved earlier. She knew perfectly well that Feng Zhenzhen was already a useless cripple, absolutely no match for her, with zero chance of making a comeback. But with her naturally cautious temperament, she still wanted the woman dead, completely and thoroughly.
"Go. Don’t come see me again until Feng Zhenzhen is dead." Enraged as she was, Xintong’s tone was far harsher than before.
Impatience flashed across Joseph’s face. When a woman was being sweet, he was willing to coax her; if she got out of line, he preferred to use force.
"Bitch, what do you think you are? In the Feng Family you’re nothing but some bastard who can’t show her face. I’m obsessed with your body and you really think that makes you somebody?" Joseph’s viciousness surfaced. He scooped Xintong up and flung her onto the bed like she was a chick.
As she hit the mattress, the back of her head slammed into the nightstand. The pain was so sharp Xintong almost burst into tears. At the same time, the killing intent in her heart finally slipped its leash. She’d originally planned to keep this useless piece of trash around until he’d killed Feng Zhenzhen, then deal with him. Since he was this incompetent and didn’t know what was good for him, he couldn’t blame her for being ruthless.
Xintong lay weakly on the bed, but her right hand had already slipped quietly under her pillow. "Joseph, you’re so rough."
"Isn’t that exactly how you like me?" While Joseph let his guard down, Xintong suddenly yanked out the fruit knife hidden under the pillow and drove it straight into the carotid artery in his neck. Blood spurted out like water from a turned-on faucet, and the pristine white sheets were instantly soaked through.
Joseph’s eyes bulged wide open, and within moments, he was dead.
Xintong watched the whole thing with cold detachment. Only after confirming Joseph was dead did she calmly mess up her own hair, tear her clothes into ragged strips, then throw her head back and let out a bloodcurdling scream.
"Ah..." The sound was saturated with terror, instantly alarming the bodyguards all over the estate.
By the time everyone burst in, this was the scene they saw: Xintong sitting with her arms wrapped tightly around her knees, curled up in the farthest corner like a skittish bird, her hair in wild disarray, looking utterly disheveled, her snow-white shoulders exposed.
