Chapter 30: Chapter 30: Coma
Realizing this, Shen Heyu laughed in anger, “I don’t know where I offended President Pei again to make you provoke me intentionally.”
Her tone was thick with dissatisfaction.
Pei Yansi heard it, and the light in his eyes dimmed instantly. He lifted his eyes and looked at her coldly as frost, “Is this how you talk to me?”
“So, how does President Pei think I should talk to you?”
Shen Heyu was relentless, her chest heaving with anger. It was seldom for her to be like this. Pei Yansi, observing this, couldn’t quite understand. Was it because of this job, or because losing this job meant she wouldn’t see Zhao Zhi that made her so angry?
He automatically assumed it was the latter.
...
His gaze grew even colder, staring at her intently, “I’m warning you for the last time, watch your attitude.”
“You don’t respect my work, as an employee and subordinate, I have the right to question you for a reason, and I have the right to be angry about this unfair decision.”
Her words were logical and well-founded, which made Pei Yansi burn with rage. He quietly watched her for a long time, and suddenly, he let out a cold laugh.
Hearing this, Shen Heyu felt a chill down her spine as she sensed a terrifying danger in his laughter.
Whether it was the heat of the moment, when the chill shot up to her forehead, Shen Heyu felt her body weaken. Already feeling extremely uncomfortable, it seemed as though her body fell apart instantly, her legs unable to support her any longer, and everything went dark as she collapsed to the ground.
When she fell, her forehead hit the coffee table in front of Pei Yansi with a bang, immediately swelling up.
Pei Yansi was initially stunned then quickly realized what happened. With furrowed brows, he stepped forward, scooping Shen Heyu into his arms, and it was only then that he noticed her body was burning hot.
His frown deepened, he reached to touch her forehead, which was also severely hot. Seeing her flushed face, he realized something.
He lifted her horizontally, kicked open the office door, and quickly carried her away.
As soon as the two appeared, they attracted the attention of many colleagues.
Pei Yansi rushed Shen Heyu to the hospital.
Shortly after, the doctor finished diagnosing her and administered an IV. Before leaving, he said to Pei Yansi, “She has a physical injury, moderate your activities a bit. She’s been under too much strain, and there’s been some tearing that wasn’t treated in time. With the weather being so hot, it’s easy for inflammation and fever to ensue.”
“If I’m not wrong, she probably fainted last night, too. Family members need to pay attention, you can’t just think about yourself…”
Seeing his face darken, the doctor didn’t dare say more, only mentioning a few precautions and leaving two boxes of ointment, instructing him to apply the medicine to Shen Heyu in a timely manner before leaving.
After the doctor left, Pei Yansi looked at the two boxes of medicine in his hand, then back at Shen Heyu who was still unconscious on the bed.
Recalling that she had indeed fainted early last night…
He couldn’t quite describe what he was feeling, just a bit of pain—not very obvious but overwhelmingly present, causing him agitation and making it impossible for him to focus on anything else. He could only quietly stay by the hospital bed.
He hadn’t been there long when the door to the ward was pushed open.
Glancing sideways, he saw a figure in a white coat enter; it was Doctor Lu.
His lips curved into a cold smile, noting how swiftly the news had reached him. To think he came so quickly, and to see the worry on his face, one might think he was her husband.
Lu Yi took a few steps forward, saw Shen Heyu on the bed looking pale without a hint of life in her, her lips dry and white as if she were a breathless doll, even her forehead was wrapped in gauze.
He looked annoyed at Pei Yansi and said, “What did you do to her?”
Pei Yansi’s face was expressionless, and the look in his eyes was cold as ice chips, filled with intense hostility, yet he did not speak.
Seeing his silence, Lu Yi continued angrily, “If you don’t have the ability to make her happy, then divorce her and set her free. Someone else will cherish her properly.”
Hearing this, Pei Yansi sneered coldly, his eyes gradually filled with intense mockery, “I don’t have the ability, and you do? Others will cherish her, who, you?”
Lu Yi met his mocking gaze and felt his anger surge, “Bullying women, are you even a man!”
Pei Yansi already disliked Lu Yi, and now being questioned like this, seeing him so concerned about Shen Heyu only fueled his anger which he couldn’t suppress.
Why did he have the right to question him?
He raised his hand and without a word, threw a punch directly at Lu Yi’s face.
Lu Yi, caught off guard by the sudden attack, stumbled backward several steps, his lower leg crashing into a chair in the hospital room, creating a noise.
Shen Heyu, hearing the commotion, felt a buzzing in her ears. Exhausted, she opened her eyes and slightly moved her body, wincing in pain.
The two men, hearing her, hurried over to check on her.
Pei Yansi’s demeanor remained indifferent, his eyes emotionless, showing no sign of his feelings whereas Lu Yi looked at her tenderly, his eyes filled with concern.
He asked softly, “Are you awake? Do you still feel discomfort anywhere?”
Shen Heyu looked at him still somewhat dazed.
Seeing her blank expression, Pei Yansi scoffed, “What, are you so happy to see him that you can’t speak?”
Shen Heyu didn’t want to engage with his provocative comment and simply said to Lu Yi, “Much better, thanks.”
Then, noticing the reddish swelling on his face, she asked politely, “What happened to your face?”
Lu Yi touched it and smiled, “It’s nothing; don’t worry.”
Seeing that he didn’t seem inclined to elaborate, Shen Heyu didn’t press further; the smell of hospital disinfectant around them made her feel uncomfortable.
Her beautiful eyebrows furrowed.
Pei Yansi saw this and was about to say something when Lu Yi, unable to hide his gentle concern, spoke first, “What is it? Are you still feeling very uncomfortable? Should I call a doctor?”
Shen Heyu politely smiled, “Aren’t you a doctor?”
Lu Yi laughed, “But I’m not the doctor who initially treated you, plus I’m a dermatologist…”
Pei Yansi watched their interaction, seeing her smile at another man made the anger that hadn’t fully dissipated flare up again.
Why didn’t she ever show this side in front of him?
She was always guarded, at worst showing displeasure and annoyance, distant and aloof.
His expression grew ever darker.

Meanwhile, Shen Heyu, unaware, simply said, “I just feel uncomfortable in the hospital and want to be discharged. It’s just a fever, it shouldn’t be a major problem.”
“No way!”
Both men in the room refused her simultaneously.
