Chapter 25: Chapter 25 Rumors
Pei Yansi said in a deep voice, “Wasn’t it always you who dealt with it?”
He had never cared about their wedding rings. Not to mention where they were kept, even though he was indifferent, he had always insisted that Shen Heyu wear them every day.
Shen Heyu distinctly remembered that before she left, she had placed the ring on the nightstand while taking a bath. Recalling that Bai Sheng’er had been in their master bedroom earlier, she took out her phone and dialed Bai Sheng’er’s number.
Pei Yansi stood by watching her, but he wasn’t looking at her phone and didn’t know whom she was calling.
The call connected quickly, and Shen Heyu got straight to the point, “Did you touch the ring on my nightstand?”
“What ring? I don’t know what you’re talking about… ah…”
...
Before Bai Sheng’er could finish, she suddenly let out a scream; concurrently, the sound of a car horn and a driver cursing, asking why she couldn’t walk properly, came through the phone.
After a moment of chaos, Bai Sheng’er sobbed, “Director Shen, I really don’t know anything about your things, I don’t understand why you always target me, when I haven’t ruined your relationship with President Pei…”
“I almost got hit by a car because you called me…”

Hearing the sobbing, Pei Yansi recognized it was Bai Sheng’er, and whether intentionally or not, she raised her voice on the last sentence; he heard and his expression darkened. He reached out and snatched Shen Heyu’s phone from her hand.
Shen Heyu hadn’t recovered before the call had been hung up by Pei Yansi, his cold eyes staring intensely at her, “She has already left, what are you fussing about? Do you have to see her dead like Fanshuang before you’re satisfied?”
Shen Heyu was stunned; she hadn’t expected him to provoke her using Shen Fanshuang’s death.
She was still slightly gaping with open mouth, but before she could speak, he had casually tossed her phone onto the bed and had taken his coat from the hanger and left, saying, “Deal with it yourself.”
He didn’t say where he was going, just left the room and slammed the door behind him.
Hearing the sound of the apartment door, Shen Heyu looked at the empty nightstand, feeling indescribable emotions.
Never mind, when was he ever not like this?
She silently went to close the sliding window, shutting out the noise of the bustling city. After a night of hassle, she was very tired and had no mood to concern herself with Pei Yansi’s matters anymore.
By the time Shen Heyu had cleared all thoughts, it was already 3:30 AM; she was drowsy and woke up as usual at 7:00 AM to go to the office.
It was bright outside; she struggled to open her eyes, feeling sore and in pain—a sensation only from poor sleep.
After freshening up, she took her things and went to the office.
She parked her car roadside and just then, saw in the rearview mirror another car arriving to stop behind hers.
It was Pei Yansi’s car.
Pei Yansi got out of the car first, then walked over to the passenger side and opened the door; Bai Sheng’er, dressed in professional attire, got out, a radiant smile of happiness on her face, wrapping her arms around his neck and saying something as she got out.
From the looks of it, the two appeared to be a couple deeply in love, affectionately close.
A sharp ache surged within her, Shen Heyu averted her gaze, opened her car door, and got out. Pretending not to see them, she walked straight towards the company’s entrance.
But Bai Sheng’er, who was still in the car at that time, had already seen her and deliberately acted affectionate with Pei Yansi. Seeing Shen Heyu walking away without noticing them, she said to Pei Yansi, “That’s Director Shen, right? She seemed to have seen us…”
Pei Yansi followed her gaze and saw the familiar figure.
He slightly frowned and said, “Don’t worry about it, let’s go.”
With that, he distanced her a bit and walked towards the company at a normal pace. But Bai Sheng’er kept intentionally or unintentionally sticking close to him; he simply pretended not to see, tacitly accepting her actions.
From the moment she walked in, the receptionist couldn’t help but size up Bai Sheng’er.
Pei Yansi led her to the high-rise elevator.
Shen Heyu was also standing there, waiting for the elevator. When she saw the two approaching, she instinctively stepped aside to make room for them.
Pei Yansi noticed her slight movement and sneered in his heart. She was being very generous now.
The elevator doors opened, and inside were already quite a few people.
The three of them entered together, making it somewhat crowded.
Seeing this, Shen Heyu stepped back out and said, “I’ll wait for the next one.”
Pei Yansi’s gaze fell on her, but he said nothing.
The elevator doors then closed. With many people inside, everyone held their breath upon seeing Pei Yansi. Bai Sheng’er took a few steps to adjust her stance and accidentally twisted her foot, falling to the side.
With quick reflexes, Pei Yansi reached out and wrapped his arm around her waist.
Everyone in the elevator instantly turned their eyes to the two of them, their gazes filled with a hint of gossip.
Pei Yansi, as if oblivious, waited until Bai Sheng’er was fully steady before letting her go, saying softly, “Be careful.”
Bai Sheng’er actively moved away from his embrace, head slightly bowed, her pretty little face flushing with red, resembling a shy flower ready to bloom.
The elevator doors opened, and everyone gradually exited.
When the next elevator arrived, Shen Heyu walked out and went straight to her office.
It was a small, private office. Just outside the door were the workstations of other employees.
As she entered, she saw many employees gathered, whispering excitedly as if discussing something.
Shen Heyu wasn’t much interested, and since it wasn’t quite working hours yet, she didn’t interrupt, only catching snippets of conversation mentioning ‘President Pei.’
She sat down at her desk, just turning on her computer when her assistant Yun Duo came in with a document.
Yun Duo placed the document on her desk and said, “This is some wrapping-up from Bai Sheng’er’s last PR case for Director Shen to review.”
Shen Heyu nodded.
However, Yun Duo didn’t leave; she looked up curiously and asked, “What’s up?”
Yun Duo’s face broke into a gossip-fueled smile and said, “Director Shen, do you know? Bai Sheng’er, it seems like she has that kind of relationship with President Pei.”
Shen Heyu’s face showed no change in expression, “What kind of relationship.”
“Today in the elevator, someone in our department saw them embracing. And President Pei was speaking to her so tenderly—oh my, can you imagine what President Pei looks like when he’s gentle? Can you imagine that, Director Shen?”
With a slight smile, Shen Heyu couldn’t imagine it, but in front of Bai Sheng’er, she indeed saw Pei Yansi’s tender side.
She replied, “Go back to work.”
Yun Duo nodded, still muttering under her breath, admiring Bai Sheng’er’s good fortune of climbing up the social ladder, and how becoming Mrs. Pei would mean she’d never have to worry again in her life.
After she left, the smile on Shen Heyu’s face completely withdrew.
