Chapter 276: Chapter 276: Unique Physique
The air in the grand workshop grew suffocatingly heavy, thick with the weight of the silver-eyed Golden Core pressure locking Shen Yu to the velvet cushions.
His mind raced behind a perfectly steady expression, instantly calculating the sheer, staggering disparity of power.
He had completely misjudged her. The frail, exhausted prodigy he had been feeding just minutes ago was an absolute titan, hiding her true self behind the childish behavior.
Yet, despite the crushing aura clamping down on his early-stage Foundation Establishment body, Shen Yu did not let panic overtake his senses.
He slowly relaxed his tensed muscles, a dark, reckless chuckle vibrating deep in his chest.
His long fingers, which had frozen mid-stroke within her vibrant blue locks, purposefully resumed their gentle, rhythmic massage against her scalp, explicitly defying the terrifying atmosphere she had created.
"To think the brilliant little alchemist was a hidden dragon beneath her robes," Shen Yu murmured, his voice shedding its artificial, raspy tone entirely.
He allowed his true, deep, and velvet-smooth voice to wash over her, his green pupils flashing with a dangerous, untamed light.
"You play the part of the fragile, overworked lady beautifully, Ruolan."
Ruolan’s silver irises shimmered at the melody of his true voice, her smile softening into something genuinely fascinated.
She didn’t pull away from his touch. Instead, she leaned a fraction closer into his stroking fingers, basking entirely in the paradox of his calm, unyielding confidence despite being completely at her mercy.
"A woman must have her secrets in a place like this, Senior Brother," she whispered, the silver light in her irises humming with the resonance of an ancient, deeply refined power. "You have yours, and I have mine."
"That is fair," he conceded, his hands moving with immaculate precision. "But tell me then... why did you not strike me down the very first night I intruded into your private chambers? And why the sudden curiosity regarding my secrets now?"
He looked straight into her silver eyes as he asked, but the sheer, unfathomable depth of her gaze felt so incredibly overwhelming that he felt a dizzying sensation, as if he might entirely lose his mind if he stared for even a single second longer.
Recognizing the danger to his mental focus, he smoothly averted his eyes, shifting his attention downward to his hands as they continued to rhythmically massage her temples.
Seeing him intentionally break eye contact to preserve his composure, her smile widened beautifully, a soft chuckle vibrating in her throat.
"Obviously, because you didn’t harbor a single shred of malicious intent directed toward me," she revealed softly, her head tilting slightly against his thighs.
"Oh, there was malice in your aura, certainly, but it was pointed outward, toward the rest of the world. It was as if you were quietly plotting a grand scheme in the shadows."
"But whenever you looked at me, your intent was entirely different. It felt... predatory. Like you wanted me for yourself."
"Combine that with the sheer, unadulterated audacity it takes for an early-stage Foundation Establishment cultivator to intrude upon a Golden Core powerhouse while masquerading as a Nascent Soul master... how could I possibly kill you and not be interested? If I didn’t possess these unique eyes of mine, even I would have been completely fooled by your performance."
Sensing a subtle shift in the room’s atmosphere, Shen Yu locked his gaze right back onto her silver eyes, his deep curiosity entirely overriding his previous caution.
Even with that recurring, dizzying sensation of getting lost in her depth, he leaned down slightly, his true voice dropping into a low, smooth murmur. "So... are those eyes your secret?"
"Yes, mine," she smiled mysteriously.
The very moment the words left her lips, the crushing, suffocating Golden Core pressure clamping down on his body suddenly evaporated into thin air, leaving the workshop’s atmosphere perfectly light and calm once more. The radiant silver light around her irises faded entirely, allowing the deep, familiar ocean-blue to return to her eyes.
She let out a soft breath, leaning back against the cushions as her posture relaxed. "They are a trait related to my unique physique."
’A physique... in a backwater area like this?’ Shen Yu’s mind reeled behind his calm expression.
Even in his previous life, when he had climbed all the way to the Nascent Soul stage, he had rarely encountered anyone blessed with a special physique.
They were legendary, anomalous gifts of nature, so exceptionally rare that whole empires would go to war just to recruit a single possessor.
To find one hidden in a minor city’s Alchemist Union was utterly mind-blowing.
"I don’t even know the proper name for it myself," Ruolan continued softly, completely unaware of the storm of calculations running through his head.
"But these eyes of mine are able to sense some things, able to tell apart some illusions, and they also allow me to somewhat perceive a person’s underlying emotional intent."
"They are the true reason I became the celebrated prodigy people always talk about. Whenever I focus them on alchemy, they allow me to peer into the cauldron, analyze the raw materials down to their spiritual essence, and master complex structural changes instantly."
She paused, a trace of genuine vulnerability crossing her elegant features as she looked up at him.
"Though it comes at a cost. Excessive use of this sight causes severe, splitting headaches, and in extreme cases of overexertion, I might completely lose consciousness for days."
Shen Yu watched her closely, his golden pupils tracking her expressions.
"Why are you telling me this, Ruolan? A secret like that is a dangerous vulnerability to expose to an outsider."
She looked up at him, her lips curving into a genuine, beautifully warm smile. "Because, as I said, you don’t harbor any malicious intent toward me. My eyes have never lied to me before."
Hearing that absolute declaration of trust, a dark, thoroughly satisfied amusement rippled through his chest. Shen Yu fluidly stood up from the velvet sofa, his broad form cutting a striking, dominant figure in the morning light as he cast a heavy shadow over her.
Yielding to his sudden movement, Ruolan smoothly swung her slender legs around, sitting up straight on the edge of the cushions while keeping her fascinated, ocean-blue gaze locked entirely onto him.
"I am Shen Yu," he said smoothly.
