The entire convoy fell into a hectic bustle of anxious, terrified activity.

Anxious because everyone was waiting for Gong Yong’s project to finish.

Terrified because they weren’t the only ones waiting for Gong Yong’s project to finish; beyond the light-perimeter, those twisted anomalies were waiting too.

They were waiting for the moment the convoy relaxed, that moment would be their feast.

Those contorted, uncanny faces would become nightmares for many people for the rest of their lives.

An experience like today was unimaginable to most.

This time, not a single survivor in the convoy shirked their duties.

Almost everyone had work to do.

More than half of them had gone to help with the vehicle modification project.

Anything Gong Yong needed or wanted was the convoy’s highest priority right now.

Even Chu Che had to give way for it.

Of course, Iron Lion was still the backbone of the effort.

Chen Ye watched as Gong Yong had already stripped several vehicles down to pieces.

He even started combining parts from those cars.

Gong Yong planned to turn two vehicles into the double-decker bus type.

If successful, the convoy would gain two large passenger buses.

The vehicles’ proportions and sizes didn’t need to follow pre-apocalypse buses and coaches.

There were no traffic laws now anyway.

Everything was being modified solely for better survival suitability.

Even for the powerplants of those two vehicles.

The Heart Engines from Chu Che’s and Sun Xixi’s off-road vehicles were once again transplanted into the two soon-to-be-built large vehicles.

Chu Che and Sun Xixi had no objections.

Once those vehicles were built, the previous engines would be underpowered for such behemoths.

Each of the two vehicles would carry the migratory lives of over a hundred people.

According to Gong Yong, the main goal in making these two vehicles now was upgrading their off-road capabilities.

They needed to get the convoy out of this Sea of Chaotic Graves quickly.

Interior furnishings would be simplified as much as possible.

The luggage and supplies previously on those cars had already been taken down and set aside by the survivors.

The whole camp buzzed feverishly because of Gong Yong’s project.

Chen Ye was eager to see what a Sequence 4 guy could actually produce.

Of course, not all survivors were busy with vehicle work.

The rest were not idle either.

The convoy’s assets were more than just a few vehicles.

The convoy’s chickens, meatworms, and Ideal Grain Seeds all had dedicated caretakers.

Even though countless horrific, twisted figures still lurked outside the camp,

the convoy’s daily tasks could not be neglected.

If they failed to do them, when this crisis passed everyone would be left starving.

Because of the earlier jolting, the entire luggage bay had become a mess and stank to high heaven.

When they opened the bay, everyone felt a slight sinking in their chests.

This smell was unusual.

Had the meatworms gone bad?

When Old Xie, the man in charge of raising the meatworms, crawled into the luggage bay and saw those plump, fleshy worms, he breathed a huge sigh of relief.

Wait, a few?

When he saw two little worms beside the three fat meatworms, his whole body shook, and he hurried out to find Supervisor Xue.

After seeing the newborn meatworms, Xue Nan turned and immediately looked for Xu Lina.

After all, Xu Lina was a Superhuman now, and she was the weakest Superhuman in the convoy.

Compared to the difficult-to-read Chen Ye, the mysterious Sun Xixi, the aloof Ding Dong,

and the busy Iron Lion,

Xu Lina was clearly the easiest to approach.

Xu Lina sensed them briefly and was delighted to discover these two newborn larvae were indeed breeding-capable, qualified meatworms.

The news felt like a spring breeze sweeping across the convoy.

With the convoy in extreme danger, newborn larvae had appeared.

Even Chu Che was roused and hurried over.

“Have you been feeding the meatworms anything different lately?”

Chu Che quickly asked Old Xie, who was responsible for feeding them.

Before the apocalypse, Old Xie had worked in a farm raising pigs. He was around fifty now, thin and short.

They’d handed the meatworms to Old Xie because he'd raised pigs and had some breeding experience.

Also, he was older and couldn’t handle heavy work; he was steady and reliable.

So the task fell to him.

At fifty, before the apocalypse he might have been in his prime, many fifty-year-olds held high positions.

But in the apocalypse, fifty was rare.

“It’s nothing special, just the old feeding method—whatever they can eat, we give them!”

“These things are easy to raise!”

“Oh right, we fed them tree leaves before!”

“Tree leaves?”

Chu Che remembered: back in the Sea of Trees, those meatworms loved certain leaves, so when they left the Sea of Trees they’d taken a lot of leaves from the king trees as worm feed.

“King tree” was the name Chu Che had given to those huge trees in the Sea of Trees!

The name fit—trees so large several people were needed to hug one.

Once he confirmed the meatworms had eaten those leaves and produced two qualified larvae, Chu Che treated the leaves like treasure.

Although the convoy’s situation was far from optimistic, these matters still needed attention.

Meanwhile, the convoy’s chicken flock had lost a few.

Because the Sea of Chaotic Graves had been so bumpy, the chickens had been jostled around in the luggage bay under the vehicles.

The remaining chickens looked limp.

Fortunately, after feeding them with the special feed silkworms, they perked right up.

Ding Dong was also checking on the Ideal Grain Seeds.

The seeds’ resistance to shaking, drought, and flooding became evident now.

After Ding Dong inspected them, she found the Ideal Grain Seeds were largely fine.

A little water from the vehicle’s reserves revived them instantly.

“Squad Leader Chu, Vehicle One’s battery is low!”

At that moment, the survivor responsible for monitoring power came rushing to report.

Vehicle One meant Chu Che’s vehicle.

This time, with the three-vehicle light barricade, at least two people were assigned to monitor each vehicle.

Chu Che’s face shifted slightly.

Although he had already noticed that the anomalies were causing vehicle power to drain rapidly,

he didn’t expect it to happen this fast.

These anomalies were not the same species as those from the Sea of Trees.

The Sea of Trees’ anomalies were more ferocious and vicious than the ones here in the Sea of Chaotic Graves.

If they had been the door-opening anomalies from the Sea of Trees, the convoy would likely no longer exist.

Lights had some effect on door-opening anomalies, but not as dramatically as with the Sea of Chaotic Graves’ anomalies.

Chu Che immediately ordered Ding Dong to have the panel van replace his vehicle’s position.

Soon Vehicle Two began showing low battery as well.

This time Dantai Bie’s off-road sports car filled in for Vehicle Two.

He was a talkative guy but had a good heart and upright character.

In the convoy, he didn’t treat himself as an outsider; when the convoy needed help, he always stepped up without shirking.

Actually, he’d already grown quite familiar with everyone in the convoy.

Both Superhumans and ordinary people knew a loquacious Superhuman had joined them.

“Yezi, how much longer can your vehicle hold?”

Chen Ye shook his head. “At most three hours, then it’s done.”

“Dammit…”

Chu Che ground his teeth and cursed under his breath.

It would still be over thirty hours before Gong Yong finished the project.

And the convoy’s power reserves were clearly insufficient.
