Chapter 223: Chapter 203: Crisscrossing

The Yingyuan Thunder Monarch Rune, a powerful Secret Technique of the Divine Night Sect.

This runic art didn’t attack enemies. Instead, it formed by condensing currents from one’s bio-magnetic field in the void and was meant to be used on oneself.

When the Thunder Rune entered the body, its intense current and profoundly complex flow would completely activate the potential of all the body’s organs. It could also alter the body’s bio-electric system, dramatically enhancing one’s ability to control and discharge electricity.

The price, however, was the immense damage that the Thunder Rune’s intense current inflicted upon the body.

CRACKLE!

Instantly, arcs of electricity coiled and undulated across Xie Yuan’s skin. His body swelled once more. Stimulated by the intense current, his hair stood on end, his eyes tilted upward, and his face became a mask of ferocious majesty—as if the Thunder Monarch himself had descended upon the world.

In fact, this rune was originally a God-Summoning Rune, used to invoke the Thunder Monarch’s descent!

Xie Yuan shot a furious glare in Zhao Yuan’s direction, activating his Spirit and Physical Ability in unison.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

Purple lightning crisscrossed the empty space, like a heavenly tribulation descending. It instantly enveloped a nearly twenty-meter radius, leaving Zhao Yuan with absolutely no room to escape.

The power of this manifested lightning was far greater than before. Zhao Yuan immediately felt a slight shock run through his body, his movements slowing marginally.

Seizing this opportunity, Xie Yuan’s figure flashed forward, as fast as a bolt of lightning. Spurred by the Thunder Rune, his speed reached a terrifying level. As one waxed and the other waned, the gap between his speed and Zhao Yuan’s current state was magnified even further.

WHOOSH!

In an instant, Xie Yuan appeared before Zhao Yuan, moving with incredible speed.

He thrust out a palm. Lightning coiled in its center, faintly forming the shape of another Thunder Rune, one that seemed to share a similar principle with the Yingyuan Thunder Monarch Rune.

Caught off guard and with his body still numb from the tribulation-like electric shock, Zhao Yuan found it impossible to use his Body Technique to evade the attack. He could only meet it head-on with a Technique of his own.

He spun around and met Xie Yuan’s palm with his own.

BOOM!

A loud explosion rang out. Zhao Yuan used the force of the collision to retreat, taking the chance to escape the range of his opponent’s Thunder Realm and continue his hit-and-run tactics.

The next moment, however, he realized something was wrong.

The lightning carried by his opponent’s Palm Technique had instantly broken through his defenses. It seemed to possess some kind of pattern and structure, immediately throwing his internal bio-currents into disarray and causing his control over his body to plummet.

GURGLE! GURGLE!

His internal organs cried out in agony as a mouthful of blood surged up his throat.

This was the backlash from losing control over the various Secret Techniques that had been balanced within his body. Now that his physical control had weakened, they were becoming unstable.

The Primordial Dragon Secret Technique he had inherited, much like the Celestial Dragon Extreme Breakthrough, was incomplete. Although the various Secret Techniques within it could achieve a balance, they couldn’t reach the legendary state of stability where they were perfectly fused. Instead, it required a great deal of his mind and energy just to maintain that balance.

This not only made it extremely difficult for a Martial Artist to cultivate to a higher realm, but it also meant that in battle, any unexpected situation could cause that balance to collapse.

If dozens of Secret Techniques could no longer restrain one another, even the slightest disturbance would result in a terrifying backlash.

Seeing Zhao Yuan’s reaction, a cold smile touched the corner of Xie Yuan’s lips. In his Thunder Monarch state, the flow of his bio-currents was altered, causing a qualitative change in his body’s ability to discharge electricity. The lightning in each of his attacks would now automatically form a rune under this influence, drastically increasing its penetrating power and impact.

Zhao Yuan had barely been able to hold on before, but now, he was about to be overwhelmed.

He forcibly swallowed the mouthful of blood, suppressing the rioting Secret Techniques within him. But the next moment, Xie Yuan gave him no chance to breathe. His figure, wreathed in lightning once more, appeared before him.

BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM!

Five consecutive palms, each one unleashing a Thunder Rune. With every strike, lightning pierced deep into Zhao Yuan’s body, causing immense damage.

BOOM!

Finally, as the fifth palm struck, Zhao Yuan’s body could no longer hold out. He was sent flying backward, his control over his body completely collapsing.

POP! POP! POP!

Multiple spots on his body burst open on their own. The blood that flowed out had turned from its original pale gold to a dark, reddish-black. His internal organs were in a similar state of chaos, and thick blood trickled from his seven orifices. Gritting his teeth against the pain, he forcibly deactivated all his Secret Techniques. Only then did the terrifying backlash from the imbalance cease, but in its wake, he had completely lost the ability to move.

His eyes filled with unwillingness. ’If the Primordial Dragon Secret Technique I inherited were complete, this never would have happened.’

In its complete form, the Primordial Dragon Secret Technique was known as the greatest Secret Technique in the world. How could a mere Secret Transmission from the Divine Night Sect possibly compare?

Unfortunately, there were no "what ifs" in this world. If Zhao Yuan truly possessed the complete Primordial Dragon Secret Technique, he wouldn’t be stuck in Jinmen, still requiring the protection of the Three Elders.

Xie Yuan glanced at the motionless Zhao Yuan, who had deactivated his Secret Techniques and collapsed to the ground. He then shifted his gaze, turning to look at the other battle.

Zhao Xuanqi and Yue Shu were locked in a fierce exchange. Their clashes were so violent that everything within a several-meter radius was destroyed, and the ground looked as if it had been pulverized.

Amidst the exchange, Yue Shu’s figure was continuously forced back; he was clearly at a disadvantage.

By drawing on the vast reserves of his Seven-Star Life Palace to ignite the Seven-Star Lamp, Yue Shu’s explosive power was no weaker than Zhao Xuanqi’s. One must remember that Zhao Xuanqi’s body had undergone multiple transformations and was now in its Qilin Form. The fact that Yue Shu could contend with him in such a state was a testament to the power of the Beidou Sect’s Secret Techniques.
