Chapter 65: Chapter 65: Qiao Siyuan Sneaks Away
Jiang Li looked at the water in front of her, smiled at Liu Deceng, and as she picked up her cup, she said, "Village Chief, my dad said he’s found a way to solve the problem with the village’s children."
"What!" Liu Deceng stood up excitedly.
The look in Jiang Li’s eyes sharpened. Taking advantage of his distraction, she switched his cup of water for hers.
"Mhm, that’s right. He’s often thought of the village during his years away. A while back, he found a doctor and learned of a few methods."
Jiang Li took a sip of water and smiled at him.
Seeing her drink the water, Liu Deceng sat down again with a complicated expression, asking excitedly, "So, what is it exactly?"
For years, the children born in their village either died young or were born with disabilities. They all thought it was because of the sins they’d committed in the past...
"It’s..."
As Liu Deceng watched in anticipation, Jiang Li swayed a few times and then, with a THUD, passed out.
The expression on Liu Deceng’s face froze. He shot back up, enraged. "Fuck! You could’ve at least told me what it was!"
’Damn it. If I’d known this would happen, I wouldn’t have drugged her. How could she drop the ball at the most critical moment?’
Liu Deceng glanced at the unconscious Jiang Li, thought about what she’d just said, and then stormed outside. The moment he emerged, he saw a crowd of men waiting, their eyes fixed on him with feverish excitement.
"So, Village Chief? Is it done? What about Jiang Li?"
The man in front rubbed his hands together and walked forward with a lecherous look on his face. The people behind him also looked at Liu Deceng with anticipation.
They were waiting for him to give the word!
Liu Deceng shot them an irritated glare. "What the hell is going through your minds!"
Liu Deceng swept an icy gaze over the crowd and warned, "None of you are to get any ideas about Jiang Li. She has a way to solve our village’s problem!"
The crowd gasped in unison at Liu Deceng’s words. The strange problem in their village had started several years ago.
And now Jiang Li was saying she had a solution?
"Village Chief, is that true? Does Jiang Li really have a solution?"
"Jiang Li is educated, maybe she really does have a way!"
Inside the room, Jiang Li listened to the discussion outside, a cold glint in her eyes. ’The reason? It’s their own damn fault, of course!’
’In a village this morally depraved, I doubt anyone even knows who fathered whose child. It’s no wonder the children born here have problems.’
Jiang Li snapped out of her thoughts and scanned Liu Deceng’s house. In a corner, she quickly found several small packets of powder. ’This must be the stuff they use to drug people.’
She took a packet and stuffed it into her bag, then returned to her spot to feign unconsciousness.
Liu Deceng returned from outside after his talk. He looked at the motionless Jiang Li and frowned in frustration. ’With the dose I gave her, she probably won’t wake up for a while.’
Liu Deceng picked up the water beside him, drank it all in one go, and finally went to his room to sleep.
Jiang Li opened her eyes. She glanced at the door to Liu Deceng’s room and began searching the place, looking for anything else of interest.
"Jiang Li, Jiang Li! Let me go! I’m telling you, if anything happens to Jiang Li today, I’ll fight you to the death!"
Yu Shuzhen’s voice came from outside. Jiang Li turned to go back, when she suddenly saw Little Li standing there, pointing at a book up high and smiling brightly at her. She strode over, snatched it, and left.
When Jiang Li went outside, she saw Yu Shuzhen being blocked by villagers. Seeing the two men holding her back, she went forward, tore them away, and snarled, "Get lost!"
Seeing Jiang Li was unharmed, Yu Shuzhen let out a silent sigh of relief and discreetly pushed the object hidden in her sleeve further up.
"Aunt Yu, let’s go back." Jiang Li supported Yu Shuzhen and glanced around, disappointment flickering in her eyes. Little Li was gone again.
"Okay, let’s go home." Yu Shuzhen forced a smile and led Jiang Li back.
After they returned, no one else came to the door. Jiang Li told Yu Shuzhen about her years away, leaving out the part about helping the police solve cases.
「Meanwhile, in C City」
Ji Qinghe stared at the unanswered messages on her phone. ’Something hasn’t happened to Jiang Li, has it?’
"Jiang Li has luck on her side. She’ll be fine," Zhou Tiancheng said, patting Ji Qinghe’s shoulder reassuringly.
Suddenly, Ji Qinghe noticed Xu Yongkang walking toward them and put on a worried expression.
"Oh no, Tiancheng, what should we do? Jiang Li says she’s not dreaming about anything anymore, and that she’s eating well and feeling great."
Zhou Tiancheng immediately caught on. He put an arm around her and said, "And you believe her? Maybe Jiang Li is just a bit more perceptive than us, that’s all. How could such a magical ability really exist? If it were real, why would she turn us down?
If she joined us, that ability would be far more useful than her painting. With her, there’d be no such thing as an unsolvable case."
Ji Qinghe nodded. "You’re right. How can we, as police officers, believe in such things? We have to rely on evidence above all."
Xu Yongkang walked past them, his pace slowing slightly as he overheard their conversation, his mind filling with doubt.
’So, were the rumors about Jiang Li dreaming of crime scenes fake?’
Watching Xu Yongkang leave, Gu Qinghe and Zhou Tiancheng exchanged a look.
After returning to his office, Xu Yongkang called in Zhang Jianbin. "Xiao Zhang, keep a close eye on the news and any cases from the department. I want to see for myself if this Jiang Li can really dream of crime scenes."
"Yes, sir." Zhang Jianbin left after he spoke. In truth, he didn’t believe it himself. How could such an ability exist? He figured it was probably just a string of good luck.
「B City Police Department」
Lu Xingye stared at the chat window with no new messages, a wave of worry washing over him. He was terrified something had happened to Jiang Li.
"It’s okay. Zhou Tiancheng said Jiang Li just went to lay low for a while. Nothing will happen to her." Huo Qing walked up and patted Lu Xingye’s shoulder.
Lu Xingye pursed his lips and nodded. If their target had really found Jiang Li, then the crowd outside the police station would have left, too. But they hadn’t budged.
That meant they didn’t know Jiang Li’s whereabouts, either. Lu Xingye felt a bit relieved at the thought and went back to searching for clues on Qiao Siyuan.
A police officer walked over. "Captain Huo, we’ve found some information about Qiao Siyuan!"
Huo Qing and Lu Xingye quickly turned and headed to the conference room.
"The day before yesterday, Wu Xueyan received a phone call. She was very emotional and immediately came to the station to report Qiao Siyuan’s location.
Our people went over there at the first opportunity, but we were still a step too late. Qiao Siyuan has already fled the country. His destination is currently estimated to be the Southern Ocean."
"The Southern Ocean? The same place Cao Tianwang went?" Huo Qing frowned, puzzled.
Lu Xingye looked at the file in his hand and nodded. ’Why on earth would Qiao Siyuan go to the Southern Ocean?’
"Give Wu Xueyan a call and ask her to come in."
Huo Qing watched the surveillance footage of Wu Xueyan angrily pummeling Qiao Siyuan. ’What kind of dispute could have occurred between them to make her that emotional?’
The call was made, and in less than half an hour, Wu Xueyan walked in, holding her belly. "Officer, did you catch that scumbag Qiao Siyuan!"
Huo Qing looked at the woman before him. "Miss Wu, Qiao Siyuan has already fled abroad. We are in contact with the criminal police over there.
We called you in because we want to know what happened between you and Qiao Siyuan."
Huo Qing watched Wu Xueyan, not missing the slightest change in her expression.
Wu Xueyan was so angry her stomach hurt. Clutching her belly, she spoke, her face full of resentment, "Qiao Siyuan is a beast. He came to me just to make me get an abortion.
