Chapter 180: _The Last Person Anyone Would Name
As the night passed, Ambrose felt the need to put on his underwear—mostly because he got this awkward feeling knowing he had not one but TWO men on his bed.
Neither Devon nor Viktor seemed to mind, both sleeping off just thirty minutes after they’d done the deed. Although, unbeknownst to him, Devon had drifted off still feeling weirded out by the kiss with Viktor.
’I have this hunch,’ Ambrose thought to himself as he stared blankly at the ceiling. ’Like there’s something I’m forgetting.’
[The black mask?] Aura chimed.
’I ain’t checking that shit.’ Ambrose’s heart skipped a beat. ’Not again.’
[Such a crybaby. But oh well... What about your updated stats?]
’Nope. Could check that some other time.’
[Wait—Han’s friends? The camera footage from Orion’s academy you and Devon still haven’t reviewed? Final decisions on which house you’re picking? Doctor Kelly—]
Ambrose’s breath hitched at that last part.
[And there we go...]
He sat up slowly on the bed, careful not to move Devon and Viktor’s arms wrapped around his waist. ’The doctor Devon trusted to run a DNA test on Orion,’ he rubbed a hand down his face. ’Fuck, I got so carried away by taking out Han’s lackeys and then all the drama that came after it—’
[At this rate I should create a daily to-do list for you.]
’Fuck off.’ he held back a groan, his eyes roaming quietly between the two Espers beside him. ’Could I still find her tonight?’
[With the curfew on the Guild right now? Someone’s in the mood for unnecessary questions.]
’What if I use the stealth potion’s effects?’ He squinted. ’How many minutes do I have left after that altercation with Han’s dogs?’
[Stealth Timer: 2 minutes, 11 seconds left.]
Ugh, shit.
That was honestly beyond expected anyway. He’d used the potion to take down Han’s minions faster.
[It’s not been so long since you spoke to her last. You could wait till the morning—]
’We might be moving out of this damn Guild any day now.’ Ambrose bit his bottom lip with hesitation.
He couldn’t shake off this bad feeling no matter how hard he tried. But he also knew Aura was right. Two minutes of stealth wouldn’t be enough to search for the woman and find where she keeps patient files.
Not tonight, at least.
’I guess I’ll just have to wait till tomorrow after all.’ He lowered himself to the bed with a sigh. ’Maybe I’m worrying for nothing. Devon never mentioned anything about discovering Orion’s Esper-Guide nature. So... I should probably give this doctor friend the benefit of the doubt.’
He gripped Devon and Viktor’s hands, placing them on his chest as his eyelids batted weakly. They stirred but neither woke up, instead holding him tighter.
"For now..."

Guild Master’s Office
Magnus sat behind his desk with a hand on his chin. His brows were knitted, gaze fixed on the laptop in front of him.
Earlier today he made the Guild’s security team send him security footage logs from last night to tonight. So he could review things himself.
Whoever attacked Han’s people was smart. Calculated. He destroyed all the cameras in the training room’s hallway and even the room itself.
He made sure to keep his face hidden as well so much so that the only detail they had on him was a black hoodie and predatory, glowing blue eyes.
Emphasis on ’predatory’.
The descriptions given by the men were so visceral despite the lack of details. This was a man who should’ve been able to kill them—yet he didn’t. All just to leave a message.
"Guide Han doesn’t have any known enemies within the Guild," he mumbled to himself as he clicked on a button. "Not to mention the abilities the men described... a mix of fire and ice."
Elemental abilities were some of the most common abilities an Esper could acquire, especially if they were below S-Rank. But having more than two elements, let alone when they were so opposing?
It was almost unheard of. Not exactly impossible. Just... extremely unlikely.
Magnus drummed his fingers on the desk after searching through the footage with no luck. "Even if this person is from the Guild, I’m aware of every power set the Espers registered here have access to."
Unless... perhaps he’s been looking at things through the wrong lens. What if it were an Esper who had only one elemental ability but then used an aether weapon to boost themselves with more?
"Hmm." He arched his brow. "Other than Devon and I, the only fire-type Esper in this Guild... has orange flames."
Not to mention he’s merely a B-Rank.
Just when he was considering leaving investigations completely to the security team, a knock sounded at his door. He barely lifted his head before barking:
"Come in."
The door swung open to reveal a young woman donned in a blue scrub. Her eyes were worn out with exhaustion but she still managed a small smile as she eased in and shut the door behind her.
"G–Good evening, sir." She lowered her head slightly.
Magnus nodded once. "Evening. I hear you and a colleague of yours had an encounter with someone you think is a... suspect? In the assault on our Hunters in the training hall."
She gave a confident nod. "I didn’t think much of it at first. Because... he’s the last person anyone would name in such a case," a pause. "But then I found out that the assailant wore a black hoodie that night."
Curiosity made Magnus gesture for her to come closer. She did, pulling in deep breaths like she was forcing herself to speak.
Then, "Guide Ambrose, sir." The name fell like a bomb, immediately bringing a deep frown to the Guild master’s face. "Yes, I know how that sounds. But last night, he came to the infirmary. Nurse Abigail and I were the only ones in there. He was... even asking about the raid team for the B-Rank dungeon. The one Guide Han’s team was in."
"I didn’t think much of it at first, but then the attack happened. We’ve also heard some rumours rolling around that Guide Han is at odds with Hunter Devon after they broke up. Maybe now that he’s being close with Ambrose... It’s brought some strife."
By the time she was done, Magnus had completely veered off her conversation. He brought his eyes to the laptop and searched for footage from last night.
Specifically around Guild Ambrose’s suite door. Soon enough, he found exactly what he needed.
"Bloody hell." He was left utterly speechless when he witnessed the C-Rank waltzing out of the suite, in a black hoodie.
At around seven PM. Approximately the same time frame as when Han’s teammates were brought down.
"This..." Magnus’ fists balled. "Interesting." He slowly shut the laptop. "Very interesting."
