Chapter 28: Preparation
Just how powerful have I become?
When Kalon lay on his back in bed, he couldn’t fall asleep. All he could think about was the destruction he had caused.
He knew that it was sure to be investigated, but he didn’t care.
All he cared about was his strength.
With a power like this, he thought that not even a second or third-year student would be a match for him.
Only fourth and fifth-year students might be able to withstand that strike, assuming they had a high durability stat and physical traits suited towards defending against fire.
As for the student that he would be coming up against in the mock battle... He found himself feeling sorry for them.
How strange...
Just a few days ago, it would have been them feeling sorry for him.
He silently thanked the Space Seducer System once again and allowed sleep to take him.
...
The next morning, the academy was louder than usual.
Students gathered around the eastern side of the campus, whispering amongst themselves.
"What happened here?"
"Was there an attack?"
"How could someone destroy a reinforced training facility overnight?"
The half-burned building was surrounded by teachers and students.
Several instructors stood silently, staring at the destruction in front of them.
One of them, a middle-aged man with a stern expression, crouched down and touched the melted remains of a steel support beam.
His eyes narrowed.
"This wasn’t an explosion."
Another teacher looked confused.
"Then what was it?"
The man slowly stood up. "Fire. Clearly."
A few students nearby overheard him and immediately laughed.
"Fire? That’s impossible. The academy uses materials that can resist fire magic up to B+ Rank."
The teacher didn’t respond. He simply looked at the melted ground.
"That is exactly why this is concerning."
The students fell silent.
A second-year student swallowed nervously as he looked at the crater.
"Who could even do something like this?"
Nobody answered because everyone there was thinking the same thing.
Whoever caused this was far beyond the level of an ordinary student.
Among the crowd, a group of first-year students watched with wide eyes.
"Do you think it was a fifth-year?"
"Maybe. A fourth-year with a powerful fire skill could probably do it. Maybe the son of one of those Dragons."
"But why would they attack an empty building?"
Nobody knew.
Not even the teachers had an answer.
One instructor looked towards the academy grounds with a serious expression.
"Find out who did this." His gaze returned to the destroyed building. "And quickly."
Not only because he was worried, but also because whichever student was capable of such destruction was sure to become a famous fighter in the future.
...
It was the day of the Mock Battles, and Kalon woke up feeling stronger than he ever had.
This was because his body was adapting to the Steel Pill, slowly preparing itself to consume a Silver Pill.
It was also because of his Formidable Body trait.
All of his physical attributes were slowly increasing, and he had now even developed the Enhanced Eyesight trait, which was strange for a boy like him, who used to wear glasses less than a week ago.
As he made his way to the cafeteria for breakfast, he almost forgot what had happened the day before.
He entered the first-year eating area and immediately heard many topics of conversation.
Most of it was about the fire that had taken place yesterday.
Apparently, it was currently the largest talking point on social media.
Everyone wondered who possessed enough strength to destroy a building. They even wondered if it was a fifth-year student.
However, the topic quickly changed once everyone laid eyes on Kalon.
All he did was sit down with his basic meal plan, but whispers immediately started spreading about him.
"Is that Kalon? He looks... different."
"He looks like he’s probably 5’6 now. Isn’t that six inches taller than he was a week ago?"
"He’s filling out his clothes a lot more too. Is he on steroids?"
"That explains the rumours I heard about Brandon. They say the guy has a broken rib, but no one will say who did it."
"Could it be Kalon?"
"Don’t be silly. It’s one thing to look different, but he’s still the same F-Rank dork he was before. Besides, I doubt his micropenis has grown at all."
...
Kalon listened to all of this as he sat down and ate his food.
The conversations were still mostly negative, but the energy surrounding them had changed.
Not to mention, he hadn’t been approached by any of his bullies yet.
Richard and Ruby sat at a table with their goons. They all constantly shot him dirty looks, but no one had thrown food at him or spat on him.
He assumed this was because they had heard about what happened to Brandon.
They didn’t know the extent of how Kalon had changed, but they knew he wasn’t the same pushover he had been before.
If they wanted to bully him, they had to do it seriously.
Kalon didn’t doubt that they would.
Which was why he knew he needed to show them why he should no longer be messed with during the Mock Battles.
...
Just as he was about to finish his meal and start heading towards the Academy of Systems Arena, he noticed a particular girl staring at him.
She sat at a table with all of her friends. Friends who admired her for her beauty, strength, and status.
Her blue hair was tied tightly into a bun so that it wouldn’t fall out during her duel.
Her blue eyes pierced through Kalon like a sword.
Thea Bluegale.
He recalled their conversation from the day before.
If anyone knew about Kalon’s changes, it was her.
It was probably why she was finally acknowledging him in public.
The girl nodded at Kalon, but he ignored her and left the cafeteria.
He appreciated the sentiment, but at that moment, he was focused on only one thing.
The Mock Battles.
