Chapter 26: Emberheart Physique
「Fitzgerald Whitewhisker has been punished!」
[Mission Complete... Your rewards are waiting for you back on Earth!]
Kalon turned his eyes away from Fitzgerald, who was bleeding out and clutching his missing foot.
Not because he found the sight difficult to look at.
No...
For some reason, he found it easy to look at such things, and he also had no problem coming to terms with what he had done.
It was the same case when he had broken Brandon’s ribs.
Perhaps it was because he knew that these people were bullies who had done worse to others.
Kalon only looked away so that he could glance at Beatrice Whitewhisker.
The woman had clear liquid dripping from her crotch area. Her legs had almost buckled, and her entire body shivered.
Kalon pointed at the merchant’s foot.
"I don’t know how good the hospitals are here, but if you get him treated quickly, he will make it."
Beatrice didn’t move at first. All she could do was stare blankly at her father.
She only moved when the man cried at her.
"Please..." The merchant sobbed, dribbling, crying, and wetting himself as well. "Save me... Please..."
Beatrice snapped into action and quickly made her way over to her father.
She removed her shirt, meaning that she was only wearing a bra in the cold, but she didn’t care.
She started using the shirt to create a bandage for her father. Yet the wound was squirting blood profusely... It didn’t take long for him to lose consciousness.
Dead?
Meanwhile, Kalon looked over at Josinia. The woman had a serious look on her face, slightly mixed with pity.
She had to admit that she felt bad for the merchant, but she also knew that this was what he deserved.
He had betrayed her, after all.
It was likely that he died, but so be it.
"Come on, let’s go," Kalon said. "The lights in the tavern are turning on, and they’ll come out here any minute."
Josinia nodded her head but then paused before following him back towards the main path.
"Where will we go?" she asked.
"Anywhere. We are across the border now, right? You got what you wanted."
Josinia’s face started to light up as she realised that he was right.
The two wasted no time heading back towards the main path.
...
They walked for hours, talking about all sorts of things. Mostly, it was about the events that had just taken place.
Josinia’s admiration for the human had grown even more than before. She was also already 10% through the fourth stage of seduction.
She was sad that he would have to leave soon, but she was also happy because they had finally arrived at a giant city.
This city was packed with towering buildings that resembled skyscrapers. The roads did not exist, as all travel was done by flying horses. The city had everything you could ask for, and around its perimeter was a giant wall for defence.
This was the City of Resistance. The capital of the resistance faction that wished to separate themselves from the Empire.
Kalon wanted to enter and explore. He had a feeling they would accept him.
However, before he was able to, he was notified by the system that his time was about to run out.
Josinia had to enter alone.
"You promise to visit me again soon?" she asked with puppy eyes and a pouted lip.
Kalon smiled.
"I promise. Do you promise to keep yourself safe and get your bruises looked at?"
"Yes, I promise. The resistance are rumoured to be helpful people. They won’t treat me like the Empire did."
"Good... That is good. Then I should be back tomorrow. If not tomorrow, then the day after."
Josinia tilted her head slightly.
"Hm? Is there a reason why you might not be able to visit tomorrow?"
Kalon had a very clear reason why he suspected he might not be able to visit.
It all depended on one thing.
"Yes. Tomorrow is the mock battles. It will be my first official fight."
And my first chance to prove that I’m a changed man.
Josinia’s eyes widened. She had heard much about these battles.
Then suddenly, she leaned forward and planted a kiss on Kalon’s lips.
It was far from the most contact he had experienced with the woman, but for some reason, it felt far more intimate than anything they had done together.
When she pulled away, she looked at him with a cute expression. Even bruised, she was still beautiful.
"Consider that a good luck charm."
She winked at Kalon.
It was the first time that had happened to him.
Before he could respond or acknowledge her kiss, Kalon felt his body fading away as he was dragged from the planet Venduros.
...
When he came back to his senses, he was on the rooftops once again.
He took in a few deep breaths and felt his body adapting to Earth’s conditions.
That was the first time he had spent the full eight hours in Venduros, so it felt strange for him to be back on Earth.
More importantly, however, were the quest rewards he was being notified of.
「Quest Reward: Please select one elemental affinity」
﹂Emberheart Physique
﹂Stonebone Constitution
﹂Stormvein Body
﹂Tideborn Frame
...
So I was right... The system is leaving the decision up to me. A choice between the four main elements.
It’s a shame I didn’t get to choose any of the fancy elements, like light and darkness...
Still, Kalon answered immediately.
Emberheart Physique.
There was a simple reason behind this decision.
His favourite Professional Fighting Organisation was The Ten Dragons. They were all some of the most powerful fire wielders in the world.
He looked up to them, not only because of their strength, but also because of their personalities. They were well known for standing up for the weak.
One of their members had even been imprisoned for murdering a fellow man outside of a sanctioned bout.
His name was Arthur, and he did it because he caught a man taking advantage of a woman.
...
After selecting the element, Kalon immediately felt the effects taking place in his body.
His entire being felt like it was burning.
