Chapter 197: Chapter 187: She Was Curious: How Come You’re Not Bald?
Her stomach growled. She subconsciously reached for the other side of the bed, only to find it empty.
She slowly opened her eyes. Blinding sunlight streamed in from outside, casting a golden glow across the floor.
There was no sound from the bathroom. Georgia Thorne sat up, clutching her head.
’This is killing me!’
In the living room, Owen Sawyer was giving a report on work matters.
Elliot Sheridan rarely went into the office in the morning, so Owen usually came to him to report on the work’s progress.
When Owen Sawyer finished his report, he couldn’t help but feel that his boss was in a rather good mood today. At the very least, his expression wasn’t as grim as usual.
’Did he finally get over his morning crankiness?’
In truth, the moment Owen Sawyer saw Georgia Thorne emerge from the bedroom, he understood. It wasn’t that Elliot had gotten over his crankiness, but that Georgia had put him in a good mood.
"Sir, what about the business dinner this afternoon?" Owen Sawyer asked, looking at Elliot Sheridan. Elliot’s gaze, however, was fixed on Georgia Thorne.
"Cancel it."
"Yes, sir. Understood."
With his work report concluded, Owen Sawyer turned and left, tactfully making sure not to be a third wheel.
Owen Sawyer still didn’t know that Elliot Sheridan and Georgia Thorne were officially married; he just assumed they had gotten back together again.
’The constant breaking up and making up between lovers is truly impossible for an outsider to predict.’
Elliot Sheridan glanced at her. "Come here."
"Did I interrupt your work?" Georgia Thorne walked over, and he pulled her down onto his lap.
The intimate posture left Georgia Thorne feeling flustered.
"No, we just finished."
His dark hair was thick and bristly. She muttered under her breath, "How come you’re not bald?"
’Most men his age should be starting to go bald by now!’
The words had barely left her mouth when he pinched her waist. She cried out in pain and looked up to find his face had darkened.
’Okay, so I hit a nerve about his age again!’
’Isn’t there a saying? Age is just a number!’
She’d noticed that ever since they got married, Elliot Sheridan was always so stern with her, constantly scowling.
His stare made her scalp tingle. She struggled to get off him, but he held her firmly in his embrace.
She blurted out, "Honey, I’m hungry!"
She gazed at Elliot Sheridan with wide, pitiful eyes, but when she met his arrogant stare, she knew it was useless.
As if he hadn’t heard a word, Elliot Sheridan seized her by the chin and kissed her forcefully.
Panicked, Georgia Thorne had fled back into the bedroom. Elliot smoothed out the collar she had crumpled and said, "You can bring breakfast out now."
"Yes, sir!" The part-time housekeeper turned and went into the kitchen.
’Come to think of it, it’s been over half a year since I’ve seen Miss Thorne!’
’I thought Miss Thorne had broken up with Mr. Sheridan. I never expected to see them back together, and they seem even closer than before.’
Georgia Thorne paced around the room, so frustrated she wanted to bang her head against a wall.
She was flushed red from her face to her ears and all the way down her neck. This wasn’t the first time the housekeeper had walked in on them.
As she was stewing, she heard her phone ring.
She walked over, pulled out her phone, and glanced at the screen. It was a call from Selena Sheridan.
"Hey, Georgia, are you free in an hour?"
"I am, why?" Georgia asked, confused.
"I’m on my way back right now. I’ll be at the station in an hour. Will you come get me?"
"Weren’t you abroad?"
"I came back ages ago, but then I went to tour another city!" Selena Sheridan’s voice sounded cheerful.
This trip must have been good for Selena Sheridan.
Georgia hummed in agreement, and Selena’s bright laughter came through the phone. "Great! I’ll be waiting for you!"
’Strange. How could she be back in the country without telling me?’
"Miss Thorne, come out for breakfast!" The housekeeper’s voice called from outside the door.
Momentarily forgetting her embarrassment, Georgia answered and came out of the room.
Elliot Sheridan was already at the table, a glass of milk in hand. He took a couple of sips.
"So, um... Selena’s coming back today," Georgia said, taking a sip of milk as she watched him.
"And?" Elliot Sheridan didn’t seem surprised at all, as if he already knew Selena was coming back.
Georgia said, "I have to go pick her up in a little while."
"I’ll go with you."
"Huh?" Georgia stared, then, realizing her expression was too dramatic, she collected herself and said, "Us going together... wouldn’t that be a bad idea?"
"What would be bad about it?" Elliot Sheridan eyed her. Georgia took a bite of bread. "If Selena finds out about us, she’ll have a meltdown!"
She hadn’t had the guts to tell Selena when she was just dating Elliot Sheridan; now that they were married, she was even more terrified.
Elliot Sheridan took her hand. "She has to find out sooner or later."
"But..." Georgia looked at him, hesitating. "Can we just tell her later?"
’Mainly, I’m not even mentally prepared for it myself.’
"Georgia, give me six months. Half a year at most, and I will bring you home to the Sheridan Family, officially as my wife. Understand?" His deep voice was laced with sincerity, his dark eyes gazing earnestly at Georgia.
Georgia nodded. ’This is actually pretty good,’ she thought.
’Living in Portmire with the title of his wife would make me a target for so much envy and jealousy.’
’Still, she wanted to ask why he had broken up with her back then in Akashima.’
Georgia Thorne had wanted to pick up Selena Sheridan by herself, but she turned to glance at the man driving beside her.
She couldn’t overcome the stubbornness of this "old man," so she ended up coming with him.
Elliot Sheridan had been too persuasive. "You’re Selena’s best friend, and I’m her uncle. What’s wrong with both of us going to pick her up?"
’That’s what he said, but doesn’t he realize how strange it will look for the two of us to show up in front of Selena together?’
Elliot Sheridan kept one hand on the steering wheel, while his other rested on the back of hers, his thumb gently stroking her palm.
"Don’t mess around. Just focus on driving!" Georgia snatched her hand back.
When they arrived at the station, Georgia thought for a moment before saying seriously, "Okay, after we get out of the car, you need to stay two meters away from me. Especially in front of Selena. Don’t look at me, and definitely don’t talk to me!"
"Georgia Thorne, I’m your husband, not your secret lover!" Elliot Sheridan grabbed her hand, pulling her toward him as he shot her a look of displeasure.
Georgia quickly pushed him away. "I’m being serious! What if Selena notices something’s off?"
Elliot Sheridan was speechless. "..."
’He knew his niece perfectly well. The girl was completely oblivious!’
The moment they got out of the car, Georgia deliberately put distance between herself and Elliot Sheridan, striding quickly ahead.
The main hall was bustling with people coming and going.
Georgia tried calling Selena Sheridan, but the call wouldn’t connect. The signal inside the station must have been poor.
Elliot Sheridan stood two meters behind Georgia, and the more he thought about it, the more irritated he became.
Just as Georgia was about to try calling Selena again, a hand grabbed her wrist, spinning her around and pulling her into a man’s chest.
Georgia shoved him away forcefully and took two steps back. "I thought we were supposed to be keeping two meters apart!"
’What if Selena sees us!’
"Come here. I have something important to tell you."
Georgia shook her head, not believing him, and continued to inch backward. Elliot’s expression grew taut. "I need to tell you something about Selena!"
"Selena?" Sure enough, the moment she heard Selena Sheridan’s name, Georgia’s guard dropped. She walked over curiously. "What’s wrong with her?"
The moment Georgia was close enough, Elliot seized her wrist, pinned it behind her back, and pulled her flush against him by the waist.
He swiftly dipped his head and kissed her lips.
’I’ve been tricked!’
"What if Selena saw that?!" Georgia hissed, covering her mouth with the back of her hand as her eyes darted around nervously.
Elliot Sheridan just smiled, his eyes glinting with triumphant amusement.
Georgia didn’t want to speak to him ever again.
They waited for another ten minutes or so before Selena Sheridan finally appeared, running toward them while dragging a suitcase.
"Georgia!" Selena Sheridan shouted happily when she saw her, but then her eyes fell on the man beside Georgia, and her smile instantly faltered. ’Why is my uncle here?!’
Georgia’s attention was so focused on Selena that she didn’t notice Elliot lean in close.
He leaned down and whispered in her ear, "Selena’s parents are divorced."
"What?" Georgia whipped her head around to face him, her reaction a beat too late.
A smirk played on his lips. "Don’t tell Selena just yet."
Elliot Sheridan strode forward. Seeing her uncle approach, Selena Sheridan’s cheerful mood completely evaporated.
Her face fell. "Uncle!"
Elliot Sheridan grunted in acknowledgment. "Did you have fun on your trip?"
Georgia was still processing what Elliot had said when she suddenly recalled a scene she’d accidentally witnessed at the Sheridan family home four years ago.
’It seemed the cracks in Selena’s parents’ relationship had started to show back then. And he knew about it, even then.’
"Georgia!" Selena Sheridan waved a hand vigorously in front of Georgia’s face. "What are you spacing out about? I’ve called your name like three times!"
Georgia forced a laugh. "Selena, you’re back!"
A self-satisfied smile spread across Selena Sheridan’s face. "I’m telling you, you really just need to get out there, clear your head, and see more of the world. Then you’ll realize just how wonderful it is!"
Georgia was in no mood to listen to Selena’s fun travel stories. Her gaze drifted to Elliot Sheridan, who stood beside Selena, but he wasn’t looking at her.
In the car, Georgia and Selena Sheridan sat in the back while Elliot Sheridan played chauffeur.
Selena linked her arm through Georgia’s and suddenly whispered, "Why did you bring my uncle with you?"
"Huh? I didn’t!" Georgia denied instinctively.
"It wasn’t you?" Selena frowned, suspicious. "But you’re the only person I told I was coming back!"
Georgia started to get nervous and told a little white lie. "It really wasn’t me. I just happened to run into your uncle at the station."
Just as Elliot Sheridan had predicted, Selena Sheridan was indeed completely oblivious and didn’t notice anything amiss.
Besides, her uncle had always been the type to know everything, so it wasn’t strange that he knew where she was.
Selena kept telling Georgia all about her travels, insisting that Georgia had to take a trip like that herself one day.
