Chapter 63: Chapter 63: Cursing and Swearing Out of the Dungeon
She hurled the High Level Fish Spear straight out like a javelin. A creature capable of becoming a zombie leader, however, wouldn’t be struck and killed so easily.
Of course, Faye Yardley hadn’t expected to succeed with a single blow. She began to relentlessly hurl all sorts of weapons at the zombie.
With a broken leg, the zombie was clearly not as agile as before. Every so often, its body was hacked by a flying Iron Axe or pierced in the shoulder by a spear...
It was a truly miserable sight.
As the zombie struggled to dodge left and right, Faye Yardley had already closed the distance, sword in hand. She gripped the blade with both hands and swung down with all her might, hoping to cleave the zombie’s head in two.
But her all-out strike was blocked by the zombie, which had instinctively raised its arms. The zombie didn’t escape unscathed, however. Its right hand was completely severed, while its left was sliced halfway through, dangling by mere skin and sinew.
"Heh, cough cough... Let’s see you act so cocky now?!"
She could actually see an emotion—fear—in the zombie’s flickering gray flames.
Heh.
’A dead thing, and it actually dreams of replacing humanity.’
Faye Yardley was well aware of the trope that villains die from talking too much. Summoning her remaining strength, she decapitated it with a single slash.
[Congratulations to player Faye Yardley for clearing all zombies in this Dungeon. You have obtained the Title: Undead Creature Fearer. Equipping this Title increases damage to Undead Creatures by 10%.]
’Wow, a Title!’
"As expected, I had to clear out all the zombies. This way, when I take on Dungeon 3, I’ll have a damage bonus against the zombies inside. It’s all connected. But I bet not many people can kill every single zombie in the Dungeon in one go."
Faye Yardley coughed again. Her injuries were quite serious, but her rewards were substantial. It seemed battle was truly the only way to maximize one’s potential and make rapid progress.
[Congratulations player, you have cleared Dungeon 1. Dungeon progress: 100%. You have obtained 20,000 points. Reward: Dungeon 3 Invitation Card × 1. Do you wish to leave the Dungeon now?]
"No. Open the Point Shop."
’This damn system, trying to trick me into leaving the Dungeon again. It just wants to gobble up all my points, doesn’t it? It never wants to leave you with anything.’
She immediately searched for planting room diagrams. Luckily, the Basic Planting Room diagram was only ten thousand points. Purchased.
She bought two more of the special fishing rods for 300 points each; she had other uses for them.
Three of the Backpack Expansion × 10 Diagrams for 1,000 points each.
One hundred packs of random vegetable seeds at 10 points per pack.
Fifty bags each of rice seeds and wheat seeds at 10 points per bag.
She had medicine for her external wounds, but none for internal injuries, so she searched the Point Shop for something to treat them.
After a bit of searching, she found that the Inner Injury Holy Medicine (can treat all internal injuries) at 100 points per dose was the absolute cheapest option.
No question. She bought ten doses, drank one immediately, and stored the rest.
It truly lived up to its name as a holy medicine. As soon as she drank it, a cool, soothing sensation spread through her organs, and the pain vanished completely.
Checking her point balance, she only had 3,390 points left.
"Search for Energy Stone."
The search returned a result for Energy Stone, but the available quantity was zero.
Faye Yardley felt it would have been better if the search had found nothing. This was just the system trolling her.
But in the list beneath the Energy Stone, she spotted a necklace that contained one. She was tempted the moment she saw it.
It had a rare description: Energy Necklace casually crafted by Islander 78 (Can block one fatal attack). Price: 3,000 points.
"Wow, that’s amazing. Something ’casually crafted’ is this powerful. I have just enough points. It would be disrespectful to Islander 78 not to buy it."
Faye Yardley felt lucky that this was just one of Islander 78’s casual creations. If it had been meticulously crafted, she definitely wouldn’t have been able to afford it.
The Point Shop had so many good things, but she never seemed to have enough points.
She used her remaining points to buy a few potions for restoring stamina and Spirit, then spent the very last of them on basic materials like wood.
After she finished her purchases, Faye Yardley didn’t leave in a hurry. She decided to search around the Dungeon a bit more. What if she could find more firearms and ammunition?
As for why she didn’t just buy them with points—well, she was more proficient with her longsword, and firearms came with too many restrictions.
Still, having them was better than not. It was worth spending a little time to look.
About twenty minutes later, Faye Yardley found a second small armory. She made a beeline for the ammunition and began frantically stuffing it into her backpack, but before she had collected even a third of it, the system kicked her out of the Dungeon.
"AAAAH! You cheapskate! You cheapskate!"
This is infuriating!
"Big sis, you’re back! Are you okay?"
Faye Yardley was still muttering curses under her breath. The system was just unbelievably stingy. What would one more minute have hurt?!
To let her find it all, only to not let her finish collecting it... The injustice was almost painful!
She felt like she’d just lost a million bucks.
"Big sis?" Willow Yardley watched her resentful, muttering sister, genuinely worried about her mental state. After all, she had already scanned her body; although there were some wounds that had already healed, none of them were serious.
But when it came to mental issues, there weren’t really any good treatment options.
Faye Yardley took two deep breaths before replying, "I’m fine. I just got pissed off by how cheap the system was at the end."
’Honestly, I can’t even think about it. The moment I do, I get angry all over again.’
"Right, what was that light screen that just disappeared from the raft?"
Willow Yardley explained the situation with the monsters randomly spawning around the raft and summarized the news she had gathered from the regional channel. Finally, she added, "Your friends have tried to contact you several times and @’d you in the group chat. You should probably check to see what’s going on. Also, our brother called. He was really worried when he heard you were in a Dungeon and asked you to call him as soon as you got out."
Faye Yardley grunted in acknowledgment and checked the time: 3:27 AM. ’Forget it,’ she thought. ’I’ll call our brother in an hour. This is prime sleeping time.’
With that thought, she opened her system panel. It was, as expected, flooded with messages.
She couldn’t understand it. Her friends list only had ten people, yet every single one of them had sent a message. And the group chat was, as always, at 99+.
Too lazy to reply to everyone individually, she decided to just pop up in the group chat.
Faye Yardley: I’m back from the Dungeon. I’m aware of the monsters attacking the rafts. If you’ve entered the safe period, please get some rest. This random monster spawning event will probably last for 3-5 days.
Gavin Donovan: So boring. After five rounds, the monsters stopped coming. Now I’m just waiting for tomorrow’s spawns.
Leo Sloan: I’m begging you, stop with the humblebrag. I’m still stuck on the third wave. Help an old bro out with some wood!
Gavin Donovan: I sent a designated Red Envelope. Go get it, Mr. Sloan. If you need backup for the fifth wave, just send an invite. Oh, and Boss, the fifth-wave monsters drop Energy Stones.
