Chapter 202: Chapter 202: The Great Black Shark Rushes In
Faye Yardley naturally had to thank her brother for his kind offer. "Hehe, looks like I don’t need it for now. By the way, aren’t you curious how I suddenly got so many points? You know, I worked myself to death just to scrape together about 600,000 before this."
"Of course I’m curious. I was just waiting for you to bring it up."
"Tsk, you really are my brother. So much thicker-skinned than anyone else." Faye Yardley snarked, but still explained, "There are Teleportation Vortexes on the seabed that spawn corrupted Sea Monsters. Destroying one gives you 300,000 points directly."
Ethan Yardley looked at Tiberius, who was standing to the side. "Teleportation Vortexes on the seabed? Tiberius, did you see any?"
Tiberius shook his head. "I didn’t find any. Maybe we can look further out tomorrow."
Hearing this, Faye Yardley said directly, "Look deeper. You have a better chance of finding them on the ocean floor."
"Alright. Down first, then out, tomorrow." Tiberius was completely indifferent. As he saw it, the fighting power of those Sea Monsters was pathetic. There was no point in killing them.
"You went to the bottom of the sea? How are you so capable? Are you even looking out for your own safety? Forget everything else, you’re solidly in the top ten, so don’t take so many risks tomorrow." Ethan Yardley felt that the point rankings were nowhere near as important as his sister’s safety. He could push himself harder, but for his sister, just salvaging trash normally was enough. Who knew what kind of dangers were hidden in the depths of the ocean?
"I know, I know. I’m not a kid. If I sense danger, you think I won’t run?"
After hanging up with her brother, she also shared the news with Zachary Pierce and Zephyr Sterling. As for Logan Langdon, there was no way she would tell him.
He did, in fact, send a message to ask, but Faye Yardley just pretended she hadn’t seen it and didn’t reply.
’Even if I told the others, they wouldn’t have the ability to destroy the vortexes anyway. It’s better for them to stick to their own pace, salvaging trash and trying to kill a few more mobs.’
Faye Yardley really felt that she didn’t know many people; her social circle was relatively simple.
It seemed the only thing left for her to do now was to survive here until she cleared the game.
’Speaking of which, this survival-at-sea game can be cleared, right?’
Faye Yardley wasn’t sure, but there was no harm in just focusing on survival. She would find the answer eventually.
And what had become of Aquaria? She could only wait for the second batch of people to arrive and ask them.
Even though she had no one left on Aquaria to worry about, Faye Yardley still wanted to know.
’Is this what they call an attachment to one’s homeland?’
「After a good night’s sleep, Faye Yardley woke up just after three in the morning the next day and entered the sea.」
And for some reason—perhaps because it was the last day of the event—the amount of trash floating on the sea’s surface began to increase, even though the event time hadn’t officially started.
Eamon was already out on his small boat, starting to salvage the trash from the surface. It seemed everyone had started moving at the crack of dawn.
This time, Faye Yardley entered the water from the side of Goliath’s head and dove straight down, planning to start exploring the surrounding area once she reached roughly the same depth as yesterday.
Perhaps because it was still so early, the ocean depths were surprisingly quiet.
Holding one’s breath was a skill that could be trained. At least, Faye Yardley’s breath-holding time was getting longer and longer.
She hadn’t expected to witness the formation of a vortex firsthand on the ocean floor.
It started with the abrupt appearance of a black eye, which gradually grew larger. Faye Yardley watched as it slowly took shape.
Just as it formed to the size of a fist and was about to squeeze out a Sea Monster, Light Wound, the weapon in Faye Yardley’s hand, had already stabbed viciously into it.
After plunging it in, she began to twist it, as if she could hear the wails of agony and the sound of it tearing apart from within.
The vortex was collapsing and expanding at the same time.
It was a perfect demonstration of trying to grow up even while breaking apart.
Finally, as Faye Yardley pulled Light Wound out, she followed up with two arrows. Soon, this not-yet-fully-formed Teleportation Vortex was completely dispersed.
[Points +200,000]
’The difference is a bit big.’
Faye Yardley pouted in dissatisfaction. ’I should’ve waited a bit longer.’
’If I destroy it here, will another one just pop up somewhere else?’
With this thought in mind, Faye Yardley didn’t leave immediately. Instead, she went a little deeper and began searching sideways.
By the time the other players woke up and checked the leaderboard, Faye Yardley was already leaving them all in the dust.
Her name had truly become known to everyone on the server.
Bonnie Callahan had been unconscious and was only woken up by the system’s alarm.
"What’s going on? Why do I feel so hungry?"
This was accompanied by the feeling of her limbs being weak and her whole body lacking strength.
She quickly mustered the last of her strength to feed herself a tube of Physical Potion. As her stamina returned, her brain finally started working properly again.
"Ah! My raft!"
She began to frantically repair it with wood. The trash outside had piled up so much that it was already spilling onto the raft.
Her Sprite was also unconscious.
She patted its face. "Cece, Cece, wake up! I’m going to give you a potion!"
"It’s over, it’s over! How was I unconscious for more than a day?!"
While Bonnie Callahan was frantically repairing her raft and clearing away the trash, Kyle Lewis was in a similar situation, though slightly better off. After all, he had been clearing the trash promptly every day and would even get lucky enough to kill a few mobs occasionally.
When he encountered a large monster, he could only wait for it to chew its fill of the raft and leave on its own.
He didn’t think about asking for help at a time like this. After all, everyone was busy. Why should he expect others to drop what they were doing to help him?
Instead, he was a little worried about his mother, Ms. Chandler. He had a feeling something was on her mind, but she wouldn’t say what when he asked.
’I’ll ask again after the event is over. If not, I’ll ask Miss Yardley to help me ask her.’
’For now, it’s best to focus on the task at hand.’
Looking at the prominent leaderboard, Faye Yardley’s name was as conspicuous as her points.
"Miss Yardley is really amazing. I need to work harder, or I’ll be too embarrassed to even stay in her private group chat."
The others in the small group had similar thoughts to Kyle Lewis. They were all striving in their own ways.
Their absolute bottom line was to not cause trouble for others.
Faye Yardley, however, had no idea what her young companions were thinking. She had been in the sea for too long and had to get back to the raft as soon as possible. She had no choice; the time limit for her Water-Repelling Pearl was almost up. If she delayed any longer and couldn’t surface for air, she would really suffocate.
But just then, from the gloomy depths of the ocean, a massive, pitch-black shark swam toward Faye Yardley at a speed that seemed both leisurely and swift. It opened its dark, gaping maw, blending in perfectly with its surroundings.
The moment the shark appeared, Faye Yardley felt a chill run up her spine, but she didn’t panic. Her current swimming speed in the water was no slower than an average fish, but it couldn’t compare to the shark’s astonishing speed.
In addition to her speed, Faye Yardley was also incredibly agile.
She fired several arrows toward that pitch-black maw, but in the water and from a distance, the Crossbow Arrows weren’t as powerful as she’d hoped.
Although they didn’t do much damage to the shark, its rage meter was shooting up.
A shark being pitch-black was one thing, but now it was actually starting to emit wisps of black smoke in the water. Faye Yardley dodged while swimming upward as fast as she could.
