Chapter 186: Chapter 186: The System Seems to Like Watching People Work Hard
Two peaceful days passed, and a new morning arrived.
Her brother and the others still hadn’t returned, which made Faye Yardley a little worried. After all, they had been gone for three days, and now it was the fourth. Not a single one of them was back.
’Does a single qualification verification really take this long?’
She still had a Small Guild Residence Certificate in her possession.
’Would using this certificate grant her the qualification directly?’
But she definitely couldn’t try using it. What if it bound to her as soon as she used it?
Maybe she was worrying for nothing, but there was no need to be overly curious about unnecessary things.
Although she hadn’t fished for many treasure chests these past two days, the number of chests she’d acquired was still considerable.
This time, the Wooden Treasure Chests didn’t yield any special surprises. With three Iron Treasure Boxes left unopened, she decided it would be best to wait for her brother and the others to return. She’d open them when she was in a better mood.
’When you’re in a good mood, you’re luckier. The things you get will definitely be better.’
"Sister, it’s an overcast day. It’s almost seven, and the sun isn’t out yet."
"A cloudy sky is fine. As long as it doesn’t rain, it’s actually pretty good for fishing up chests."
"Sister, you don’t need to worry about your brother and the others. Rainie is doing just fine, which means your brother must be fine too."
Faye Yardley nodded in sudden realization. That was right; she had forgotten about the strong connection between them.
If something had really happened to her brother, Rainie Yardley would surely be affected as well. Besides, Tiberius was with him. Although their bond wasn’t as deep as Rainie’s, breaking the contract would certainly come at a great cost to Tiberius.
Since he went with him, he wouldn’t just stand by and watch something happen to her brother without helping.
"Okay, thank you, Willow. I feel much more at ease now."
"MEOW~"
"Blackwood, come here. If you don’t, there won’t be any dried fish for you."
Although dried fish wasn’t its absolute favorite anymore, it still liked to eat it.
After the Bronze Cat came over, Faye Yardley picked it up. It seemed to have body heat now, and its body was soft, but it was still different from a real cat. It didn’t have fluffy, silky fur.
She gave it a squeeze. The feeling was surprisingly nice.
"Alright, here’s your dried fish. You wouldn’t sneak into the planting room and eat things, would you?"
The cat shook its head.
"Good, as long as you don’t."
This cat was truly amazing. Its diet remained as monotonous as ever.
Letting the cat go, Faye Yardley tutted. "I haven’t used the special fishing rod for the past two days. I’ll use it today and see if I can fish up another cute cat."
"Meow?"
"To find a companion for you. Aren’t you happy?"
With a MEOW, the black cat vanished.
Still sitting under the thatched shelter, Faye Yardley took out the special fishing rod.
’Come to think of it, my warehouse is already full of all sorts of strange things.’
’Maybe I should organize it one of these days.’
From Faye Yardley’s personal perspective, her current life was actually quite good. Of course, from the perspective of humanity as a whole, it wasn’t so friendly.
But this comfortable life was an illusion. True freedom and beauty would only be achieved when there was no system control, when she could make her own choices about her life.
Using the special fishing rod was even more like opening a blind box than opening a treasure chest.
This time, she actually fished up a pitch-black ring that glowed with a faint, dark red light.
[The lost ring of Count Nicholas. Wear it, and you may be able to temporarily borrow his power to intimidate low-level Vampires.]
She held it in her hand and examined it closely. It was completely smooth, without a single pattern, yet it seemed as if dark red blood was flowing over its surface.
"Is this the system’s way of giving me a hint?"
’Maybe the system couldn’t stand watching me be idle for two days. Maxed-out Luck Value isn’t for you to just slack off with, is it?’
’The harder you work, the luckier you get!’
Perhaps that saying was also true in this World of Ocean Survival.
Placing the ring and the special fishing rod into her inventory, Faye Yardley got up and went back inside to her room on the first floor.
She’d know if it was a hint from the system after opening a few chests.
Taking a deep breath, Faye Yardley clasped her hands together. "System, oh System, you love me the most, you love me the most! You’ll only give me good things."
[Obtained: Dungeon 2 Fragment x2, Black Cloak x1, Dungeon 7 Fragment x1, Silver Earring x1, Crystal x7]
Talent triggered... quantity doubled.
[Obtained: Basic Wood House Upgrade Voucher x1, Basic Wooden House Blueprint x1, Angel Brand Sanitary Napkins x5, red grass seeds x10]
Talent triggered... quantity doubled.
[Obtained: Exorcism Talisman Paper x10, Pumpkin Coach x1, One-time GHA Summoning Card x1, Starlight Photo Studio Experience Card x1]
Talent triggered... quantity quadrupled.
"Whoa, a critical hit! The system really does love me the most." Faye Yardley was truly ecstatic. After all, a single glance showed that everything from the last box was good stuff.
However, the items from all the boxes also made Faye Yardley realize that the system really did want her to get moving.
The Dungeon 2 Fragments were directly combined into one Dungeon 2 Invitation Card with two fragments left over. As for the Dungeon 7 Fragment, she happened to have one more in her warehouse. She tried combining them, and it succeeded immediately.
On one side of the Dungeon 7 Invitation Card were the words "Invitation Card (Solo)." The other side depicted an ancient courtyard house under the pale moonlight. Large, red lanterns were hung high, but under the eaves of the main building hung a woman in a white dress. Her head was bowed and her hair was loose, obscuring her face.
Heh heh~
’Are all these Dungeons this creepy?’
She now had Invitation Cards for four Dungeons: 2, 3, 5, and 7.
She had two for Dungeon 2.
Looking at the other items she’d unboxed, plus the ring she’d fished up today, Faye Yardley felt that maybe she should go check out Dungeon 2.
After all this time, there was still no first clear for the solo Dungeon 7. It wasn’t possible that no one had managed to synthesize an Invitation Card, right?
The black cloak was a hooded style. Once she put it on, her entire body was enveloped. If she added a black face mask and lowered her head... oh, dear.
’If the surroundings were a bit creepier, who wouldn’t be scared seeing that?’
The Exorcism Talisman Paper was a consumable, completely incomparable to the long-term effects of the Exorcism Wind Chime.
But seeing the Talisman Paper reminded her of the yellow paper Zephyr had slapped onto Leah Chandler and her son before. After a moment’s thought, she sent Zephyr a message: "Mr. Zephyr Sterling, are the talismans you draw yourself for sale? Can they be used just by tearing them open, without reciting a Spell?"
Unexpectedly, the reply came back quickly. Zephyr Sterling: "Give me some of that red liquid you got from the Land of Damnation, and I can try to draw you a talisman with it. My other Talisman Papers all require a corresponding Spell, and you might not be able to recite it correctly in an emergency."
Faye Yardley sent a bottle over directly.
After all, he had helped out back then, so she should have given him a share anyway. She’d just forgotten. If Zephyr hadn’t brought it up, she would have completely forgotten about the sap from that black tree.
’It can be used to draw talismans?’
Faye Yardley started to feel a sense of anticipation.
Since she had decided to enter Dungeon 2, she still needed to make some preparations.
At the very least, she would bring everything she thought she ought to prepare.
