Chapter 161: Chapter 161: Forget It, I’ll Just Open Them
From her conversation with Eamon, Faye Yardley also learned that the Snakefolk could control people using snake eggs. The swift death of Bonnie Callahan’s family was likely related to the fact that Bonnie and her brother had killed that Serpent Maiden.
Once the Serpent Maiden controlling them was dead, there was no one left in charge. Without that control, they naturally perished.
She mentioned this to her brother and Zachary Pierce. Pierce’s team was full of smart people; give them a few hints, and they would naturally figure out the best course of action.
Not having to worry about the details was a relief for Faye Yardley.
’Even though she hadn’t done anything directly, she felt as if she’d saved many people, which made her feel quite heroic.’
Of course, there was no need to tell Bonnie Callahan about this. ’Why would I? So Bonnie can transfer her hatred to me?’
’Then we wouldn’t even be able to be simple chat group members anymore.’
As they were talking, Faye Yardley suddenly asked an unrelated question, "Eamon, why exactly are you staying here?"
Eamon, who had been answering her questions, replied instinctively, "A new world always brings new opportunities. I wanted to change my monotonous old life, so I snuck along. And since I was already here, I signed the contract and started working diligently so you wouldn’t kill me, Faye."
"Hmm, that’s good. If you ever want to leave and go home, just let me know. I don’t intend to treat you like a permanent laborer."
Eamon grinned. "It’s actually great here with you, Faye. My planting abilities have improved quite a bit. When I go back, my siblings definitely won’t make fun of me anymore."
Faye Yardley nodded. "You’ve done a great job taking care of this place. Willow, cut a few stems of Shannon White for the vase."
With that, Faye Yardley left.
With only Eamon and Willow Yardley left in the planting room, Willow sized Eamon up. "Do your job well. If you have even one malicious thought, I’ll toss you into the sea."
"Please don’t worry, Miss Willow. I’ve been diligently caring for these plants. I have no ill intentions whatsoever."
Willow Yardley picked up a pair of scissors and a basket, then walked toward Shannon White. "That large recycling bin by the thatched shed can recycle anything, you know."
Eamon’s expression stiffened, his face a mask of indignation. He truly had no intention of causing any trouble on the raft.
Faye Yardley had no idea that the information she provided had sent Zachary Pierce’s team into a frenzy of activity.
The news spread like wildfire. The revelation that the Snakefolk could use snake eggs to control people—and even turn them into living incubators—put everyone on high alert.
Those who had other Otherkin on their rafts couldn’t help but wonder if their guests harbored similar sinister intentions.
The psychological pressure on those who happened to have members of the Snakefolk on their own rafts was immense.
Discussions about it were exploding on the public channel.
This situation also affected Logan Langdon, since he still had Chloe Hughes, an Otherkin, on his raft.
However, he was confident he had Chloe Hughes under control, so he wasn’t overly concerned.
Naturally, such a hot-button topic was also being discussed in their small private group.
Leo Sloan: This is terrifying. Thank goodness for the timely warning from Pierce and Yardley. Otherwise, my wife would have accepted the red "candy" that was part of a jewelry piece her good friend gave her.
Zachary Pierce: @Leo Sloan, could you ask your wife to accept that red candy and sell it to me? I need it for my research.
Leo Sloan: One moment, Pierce. I’ll ask my wife. If she has it, it’s yours. No need to talk about buying it. It’s more of a menace in our hands, anyway.
Wade Warren: You can say that again. By the way, what about Callahan? She’s usually so active. How come she’s so quiet right now? Is she alright?
Faye Yardley: She’s a guest here with me and doesn’t have time to chat right now. Don’t worry, she’s fine.
Wade Warren: Oh, so she’s visiting the group leader! I’m so jealous.
Faye Yardley: No need to be jealous. If you want to come, I can invite you over right now.
Wade Warren: Thanks, group leader, but I’d better come tomorrow. I have to take care of my guys today. [Awkward.jpg]
Kyle Lewis: @Zachary Pierce, Pierce, please accept the private Red Envelope. Someone gave my mom one of those candies too, but it’s blue. Not sure if it’s the same thing.
Zachary Pierce: Thanks, I’ve received the Red Envelope. I’ll let you know what I find after I’ve studied it.
Faye Yardley stared at the chat, a little baffled. ’How could so many people in a group of less than ten run into this?’
’The odds seemed way too high.’
’It was so hard just to live a simple life.’
Meanwhile, in her brother’s thousand-person group, no one had reported seeing those "candies" yet.
It just went to show that, aside from candy that came from treasure chests, anything not produced by the system was potentially dangerous.
Thinking of chests, Faye Yardley slapped her forehead. ’I still have chests I haven’t opened.’
She had originally planned to save up for a ten-pull, but now she felt it was better to open them as soon as possible.
’Who knew? Maybe there was something inside that could help with the current situation.’
Chests obtained during the event would most likely contain event-related items.
With this in mind, Faye Yardley went straight back to her room.
Sure enough, the three Wooden Treasure Chests she opened yielded nothing but food, drinks, some basic materials, and a few decorations to increase the raft’s "happiness" rating.
The one and only Iron Treasure Box, however, held a pleasant surprise.
[You have obtained: Inter-Regional Small Chat Group Creation Ticket x1, Friend List Expansion Ticket (+10) x1, Ru Ware Lotus Tea Set x1, Green Peony Flowers x10, Rice Seeds x10]
Talent triggered... rewards quadrupled.
Whoa!
’It’s a fourfold multiplier this time!’
’To be honest, the Inter-Regional Chat Group ticket was practically useless to me, as I have no one in mind to contact.’
So she decided to give two to her brother and two to Zachary Pierce.
The initial friend limit was only ten people, and because she already had her small group, she hadn’t even maxed out those ten slots.
Still, she used one of the Friend List Expansion Tickets on herself.
Then she gave two to her brother and one to Zachary Pierce.
’They would definitely need them.’
After sorting them out, she sent them over via Red Envelopes.
Anyone who unboxed something like this would use it themselves; these items almost never circulated on the market.
Ethan Yardley immediately sent a big smiling emoji with a message attached: My sister is the best!
A moment later, Zachary Pierce replied as well: I owe you more and more, Yardley. But these are exactly what I need right now, so I’ll just add it to my tab.
Faye Yardley just smiled, not minding at all.
She dismantled the empty chests into materials and stored them in her warehouse.
She searched the trading market and found all sorts of vases, but the asking prices were noticeably higher than before the event.
To Faye Yardley, however, the price was just a few extra fruits and vegetables. She ended up picking out a spherical porcelain vase with a brown crystalline glaze.
It would be a perfect match for the green peonies.
She then went to feed a Light Energy Fragment to the Green Egg and watered the Magic Seed with the dew she had collected.
She could clearly feel their joyful response, and her own mood lifted as well.
