Chapter 159: Chapter 159: So Scary, So Scary~
The words made Jefferson Yardley gag, and he waved his hands dismissively as he took two steps back.
Ethan Yardley gave his sister a helpless look. "Faye, stop it. Sorry, Uncle. We’ve ruined your party."
Because Faye Yardley was wearing a Self-cleaning Robe, her clothes were spotless. However, the ground was covered in the Serpent Maiden’s blood, and its foul stench was even more nauseating to her than the blood of zombies.
She tiptoed and hopped away from the battle site.
"Faye, why don’t you come inside and wash up? Don’t worry, I have clothes in my backpack you can wear," Felicity Yardley said, waving her over.
"No need."
Jefferson Yardley had calmed down by now. His expression turned a bit more serious as he said, "Alright, I’ll have my men pump some seawater up to wash this area. You two can come inside."
"Brother, Faye, come on."
The siblings exchanged a glance and walked over together.
They weren’t afraid of any schemes. They had already slaughtered his guests, and just the two of them likely weren’t enough of a threat to cause them any danger.
They walked in boldly and sat right down on the sofa without any pretense of politeness.
Several Ice Basins had been placed around the room to cool it down, and it was indeed a little more comfortable than being outside.
There was even a plate of sunflower seeds on the coffee table.
Felicity Yardley handed each of them an unopened bottle of cola.
As expected, Jefferson Yardley had called people over to wash the deck. He pulled up a chair, sat across from the siblings, cleared his throat, and said, "It seems you two have been doing quite well for yourselves. Your strength is more than adequate. As your uncle, this puts my mind at ease."
Faye Yardley twisted the cap off her cola and started drinking, completely uninterested in what her uncle was saying.
Ethan Yardley, on the other hand, responded with impeccable politeness, playing the part of a perfectly obedient nephew.
As the two of them talked, the atmosphere seemed to grow quite harmonious.
Felicity Yardley sat down next to Faye Yardley, intending to get a little closer. But one look at Faye’s icy glare made her instantly drop the idea. She even scooted a little farther away.
"Faye, how did you manage to kill that Serpent Maiden without getting a single drop of blood on you?"
She was genuinely curious.
But it was clear Faye Yardley had no intention of satisfying her curiosity.
’I just came to check on their progress. Now I’ve seen it. They’re stronger than average, good enough for the second tier, but that’s about it.’
Knowing that they weren’t doing as well as she was, Faye Yardley felt at ease.
Faye Yardley didn’t deny her own pettiness, but it made her happy.
"Ethan, you and your sister are probably doing better than your uncle, right? When this month is over, don’t forget to take in your grandparents..."
Faye Yardley cut him off, slamming her cola bottle onto the coffee table with a loud THWACK.
Jefferson Yardley’s expression immediately soured, but considering her Combat Power, he held his tongue.
"They’re your parents. Don’t even think about pushing your responsibility onto us. We’re not going to wait on them. Besides, your mother isn’t even a blood relative of ours. We already gave you enough face by accepting your invitation. Don’t be shameless and push your luck," Faye Yardley said, not holding back at all.
"You!"
Faye Yardley glared at the finger he was impolitely pointing at her. Jefferson Yardley felt a genuine killing intent and, listening to his survival instincts, put his hand down.
Ethan Yardley patted his sister’s shoulder and said with a smile, "Uncle, if there’s nothing else, we’ll be heading back now."
They had paid their respects, so the two of them decisively returned to their own raft.
Watching the two of them vanish before his eyes, Jefferson Yardley was about to explode with rage. "How dare they... How..."
"Dad, that’s enough. It’s just the two of us here now. Isn’t this the perfect time to discuss how to take over Mr. Shepherd’s things? His raft is nearby. We should strike first while no one else knows."
"Hmm, you’re right."
Upon returning to her raft, Faye Yardley went straight to the large recycling bin, opened the lid, and tossed the wooden box containing the Serpent Maiden from her backpack inside.
"Sister, you’re back so soon! It’s not even nine o’clock yet," Willow Yardley said, walking over with an umbrella and positioning herself to block the sun for Faye Yardley.
"It was boring over there. Pointless."
Willow Yardley’s gaze fell on the recycling bin, and she smiled faintly.
Standing at the door of the planting room, Eamon’s eyes were also fixed on the recycling bin. He muttered, "How terrifying... How terrifying..."
Back in her own home, Faye Yardley changed into comfortable slippers. Willow Yardley took the shoes she’d taken off to be cleaned. It was better to get rid of any lingering odors completely.
Sitting on the swing chair, a manga appeared in Faye Yardley’s hand. ’I wonder how many Otherkin are left in this world,’ she thought.
’Why would they choose to stay?’
’Eamon is a bit of a simpleton. Asking him probably wouldn’t yield any useful answers.’
After thinking for a moment without success, Faye Yardley tossed the question to Zachary Pierce. He had more people on his side, which meant he might have collected more information and could possibly find the real answer.
As for her, she went back to reading her manga, content.
RING RING RING~
She answered the call to see the crying face of Bonnie Callahan.
"Miss Bonnie, what’s wrong?"
"Hon, can you come over to my raft for a bit? Just keep me company. I feel so awful right now."
Faye Yardley’s mind filled with question marks. ’Do I look like the comforting type?’
Faye Yardley replied directly, "Why don’t I just invite you over? I wasn’t planning on having anyone over today anyway. The raft is empty."
"Okay, thank you."
Faye Yardley sent Bonnie Callahan an invitation, and it was accepted instantly.
Soon, Bonnie Callahan appeared on her raft.
Faye Yardley opened the door and called out, "Miss Bonnie, over here."
It was obvious that Bonnie Callahan was truly heartbroken and had no interest in anything else.
She sat on the sofa, continuously wiping away her tears.
Faye Yardley was truly terrible at comforting people. ’If she just wants someone to be with her, then I can just be with her.’
She even went and washed a plate of strawberries and sliced an apple, placing them in front of Bonnie.
Meanwhile, Faye Yardley herself simply flopped back, reclining on the sofa, and went back to reading her manga.
Just as she was about to finish her manga, Bonnie Callahan finally spoke. "Thank you. My uncle is gone. My cousin is gone. My other cousin is gone..."
Faye Yardley was speechless.
She pulled out two tissues and handed them to her. "Do you know what happened?"
Bonnie Callahan took the tissues and said between sobs, "I don’t know. My aunt doesn’t know either. The three of them were in one zone, and my aunt was in another. None of them were with us."
"Did it happen to them all at the same time? Were their rafts merged?"
"They weren’t together. They were just excited that they were in the same zone, saying they could merge and look after each other if they ever met up."
Faye Yardley couldn’t figure it out. If they had been together, it would have been possible for an enemy to use an Invasion Card to wipe them all out at once.
But they weren’t together, yet they died one right after another. Why?
